SO GLAD THEY'RE FINALLY DOING THIS THEME

WHO IS PSYCHED? ONLY A MONTH!

http://www.hypable.com/2014/09/04/watch-all-the-american-horror-story-freak-show-trailers/

Some teaser hype trailers. Everyone is freaking out about 6, but personally 7 is waaay more terrifying to me. I'm really hoping that these trailers are indicative that this season is actually scary (as opposed to last season). Emma Roberts has gone on record saying that the script for this season gave her nightmares, and that it's way more scary than last season.

Oh my god can't waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaait

I really hope they don't smurf this one up. Season one was pretty strong until the end, but it wasn't a massive blow. The journey through the house and the creation of the series was wonderful to go through, so I forgave that. Season two had wonderful potential but fell short pretty damn quickly. Season three was atrocious. I think I made it halfway through before throwing my hands up. I might try to re-watch it in preparation for the fourth season, but good lord. I didn't find it scary at all.

The trailers look pretty neat! #2 makes me cringe. I found #5 interesting me the most, and #6 was pretty neat. The thing I am most looking forward to, though, is the opening credits theme. As the shows get increasingly worse and worse, the intros get better and better.

I love circus and sideshow-themed art and media, so I hope they can do some good with this smurfing season. This show is great with flash, theme, and setting. It is not good at stories. Please, please don't disappoint!

They keep trying to jam pack it full of nonsense bullshit instead of taking a few subtle things and expanding upon them. Too many cooks, etc etc.

I honestly loved season one all the way through. No issues there at all.

Season two...I got about halfway through. Denmark and I are giving it another go starting next week.

Season three was great! But it wasn't scary at all, so eh.

I WANT THIS SEASON TO BE BALLS TERRIFYING LIKE I DON'T WANT TO BE ABLE TO GO TO SLEEP AT NIGHT

Season 3 was basically just a teen drama. The only thing good about 3 was Angela Basset's character and the Voodoo God. It only had like one scene in the entire season that seemed scary to me. The swamp witch's trap in hell. Actually seemed kind of frightening to me. Just the thought of it really. I could feel her pain.

Season 2 though started off good but it ended up throwing too much shit together that I said fuck it and abandoned it. One was the only good one for me.

I don't always cringe in fear when I'm watching a television show, but when I do, it's because of that guy in the Coven intro who smiles when the music pops.

I did like Season 2 but agree it started better than it ended. I thought it went downhill once crazy nun died and the head nun was hospitalised and it was definitely dragged out longer than it needed to be.

The makeup is really good for the show, but some of the visual effects I've seen have been very bad in particular, their CG fire. I might give a chance this season though.

I'll watch the beginning of S4 just like I watched the beginning of S3. Couldn't get passed 2 episodes of S3 cas it was so freakin witch bad. Terrible premise. S2 was great until the last few episodes which sucked balls. Had some good ideas though. S1 was interesting to watch unfold but also ultimately sucked :D

Aaaaah we have an intro!

http://youtu.be/50Czi8Tgr2Q

HOWEVER I am quite disappointed as it looks like they just clipped a bunch of deformity photos from Wikipedia for the intro, and the reason I know that is because that is exactly where I have seen all of those photos before :stare: Was not creeped out or disturbed by it in the slightest, so that's a massive disappointment. Oh well, they set the bar pretty high with the Season 3 intro. That's a hard one to top. And maybe now instead of perfecting their intros, they'll perfect their goddamn plot points instead.

I do like that they used a clip from the old Freaks movie, that was pretty neat, as that's what this season makes me think of. Also, we should all be watching that movie in prep for this season!

I don't always cringe in fear when I'm watching a television show, but when I do, it's because of that guy in the Coven intro who smiles when the music pops.

The creepiest things to me about the S3 intro are 1) the Jersey Devil stopping to turn and face the camera and 2) the cloaked figures suspended in the air as the music pops. That shit is the stuff of nightmares.

Night Fury

This show is going to be great! I'm ecstatic about the first episode.

I love the imagery, such as the rusted carousel surrounded by tall grass. The music sets the scene, as well. Very fitting.

I loved the 'Life on Mars' performance :save:

WHY IS SHE SINGING A 70'S SONG

Jinx
10-11-2014, 08:31 PM
The fact that it's not in the right time period doesn't bother me. The show deals in magical realism, what does it care about timelines?

What I don't like is that Jessica Lange isn't particularly good at singing and the scene felt so out of place and disruptive to the rest of the plot.

Psychotic
10-11-2014, 08:34 PM
Well sure it was clearly a deliberate choice and not poor research on song eras, it was just a comment that this is what spun me out the most!

Shorty
10-11-2014, 08:37 PM
The song doesn't make sense. You want a show about a 1950's sideshow freak ensemble but you want to feature a David Bowie song from the 70's? MAKE A SACRIFICE. Magical weird shit in this show doesn't mean we have to forgo making sense!

The clown freaked me out. Seriously.

Great episode. The Tattlers sang a Fiona Apple song, which I would say pretty much confirms that the Bowie song during the first episode wasn't a timeline error :)

I really like that the songs are more modern than the time of the show. It adds to the "out of place" feeling.

I like how this show is back on track. So far as good as season 1 and is actually a horror story and not a teen drama. It also looks like they're not going to mix in too many plotlines or elements like they did in Asylum.

Was the clown in the current freak show at one point? It looked like it in one of the flashbacks.

So is Paul not going to take revenge on Elsa? She stabbed him in the chest with the hopes that he'd die. Maybe he's just focused on his newly tattooed girlfriend right now and giving her support through all the trauma she's dealt with recently.

I don't think I'll ever really love this season. It wasn't at all cohesive, but it was still a fun ride for what it's worth. I LOVE Dandy. He's awsome. Finn Wittrock is so great. One of my favorite things he does as Dandy is stand purposefully pigeon-toed. It's a very tiny detail, but it really adds to his childishness.

Wasn't expecting Maggie to kick the bucket. I DID, however figure out immediately that she sold the show to Dandy. As if Elsa wasn't already an unlikable enough character...ffs, woman. YOU KNOW WHAT HE DID.

At the end, when Jimmy said, "They're perfect" I was like, oh did he get regular hands or crab hands! Denmark's like, "He got regular hands!" and then he holds up his new hands and I was like HA I told you. This whole season has been about accepting yourself for who you are, and even with fake hands, Jimmy wouldn't have been true to himself.

So, I read an article that said Twisty and Edward Mordrake will be making another appearance. Only one show left.

Elsa's Times cover said that her show is on Fridays. Someone sleuthed around and found out that in 1957 (the year of her magazine cover) Halloween falls on a Friday. So maybe Elsa is taken by Eddie on her show!!!!

God, I hope that's how it ends. It's such a good theory.

Jinx
01-15-2015, 02:35 PM
Same, I think. Although I just think he's brought so much to every character. It's a toss-up between Jimmy and Tate. Yeah, Tate did some SERIOUSLY fucked up shit, but Evan Peters really made you feel sorry and pity and love him while also despising him.

Kit Walker's my favorite Peters character. Though i'm in the small crowd that seemed to enjoy Asylum more than any other season.

I loved how Jimmy, Bette, Dot, and Desi's storylines ended. I figured Jimmy and Dot would end up together, and they did. But seeing Desi get everything she wanted brought warm fuzzies into my heart.

I didn't love Elsa's ending, though. She's a horrible person and I don't think she really deserved the happy ending she got.

I don't hate this season, but I didn't like it. I never felt like there was an ACTUAL story being told. It just kind of felt like we were hanging out with a bunch of friends doing nothing.

I think that's true, there wasn't really an overarching plot - compared to S3, for example, "Who will be the new Supreme?" main arc - but more individual character strands. Elsa, Dandy, Jimmy and the twins were the focal points although the twins especially faded away as a narrative towards the end. The other characters just existed to fulfill their stories - eg Twisty and his mom for Dandy, Meep and Dell for Jimmy, and so on.

Violent death was a really overused event throughout the season and it was weird that stuff always got ratcheted up to a 10. "Problem? Solve it with murder!" Like, even seemingly rational and normal characters like Paul suddenly became bloodthirsty sociopaths, it was kind of jarring. Ima Wiggles goes from a middle class girl stuck in fat camp to chasing Stanley around with a knife in just two episodes. And while they had just seen their friends killed, it was still impossible to emphathise with Jimmy, Desiree and the twins as they ate popcorn watching Dandy drown. The original message of "You think we're freaks but we're not monsters" rang hollow. Maybe that was the point, maybe they are the monsters they claim not to be and maybe Dandy's killing spree was the payoff of "Live by the sword, die by the sword". I don't know. It wasn't really coherently executed if it was.

...just realised I randomly rambled xD Sorry folks! I still enjoyed it.
