Could there possibly be a fourth game in the series?

Could there possibly be a fourth game in the series? I'm asking because of Final Fantasy XIII: Reminiscence - Tracer of Memories, a novella set after the events of the game.

Sweet mother of the gods, I hope not. Cloud-clone Waifu and the Fool Brigade need to be forgotten. The people who wrote the story should have their fingers chopped off. The people who put all the important details and shit into a fucking glossary/encyclopedia should be quartered. Oh yeah, and the music sucked too.

Considering how poorly Lightning Returns did in sales, and the sequels in general, I doubt it. I even see fans of FFXIII burnt out on XIII. They just want XV and KH3 to come out. They'll probably just keep it alive through books and have Lightning continue to guest star in other games for a while. I think they were serious about Lightning Returns being the last one, but I'm never surprised to see a sequel after the fact. Alien 3 was supposed to be the last Alien movie, too >.>

Though they'll probably release XV and Kingdom Hearts III first.

If you believe in infinite universes, then in some alternate dimension FFXIII-4 does exist. I feel sorry for the poor bastards that have to call that hellscape home.

If you look at it that way, in some alternate universe Type-0 and Versus XIII came out while XIII was the one that practically became vaporware.

I would love a forth entry but I just don't see it happening. SE already said numerous times that Lightning Returns would be the last XIII game, and the fact that LR didn't even break two million sales (which is pitiful by Final Fantasy standards) just makes it seem completely wrong to think otherwise.

The novella in question, from what I understand, takes place in between the before credits ending FMV and the after credits ending FMV of Lightning Returns, so it's not like it's opening up any new doors or loose ends like FFX-2.5 or the FFXIII Novella did. I just think it was an extra little treat for the fans of the XIII Trilogy.

I meant Versus XIII. In this alternate universe, it never would have become XV because it would have released in place of XIII. Also Agito would have come out. Why not? This alternate universe has everything.

I would be very sad if there was a XIII-4. That storyline reached closure. Granted, I'd probably end up playing this hypothetical game anyways because I can't help myself from playing new FF games.

I love to see one. But I don't know the story that well.
I stop watching Final Fantasy XIII walkthrough on youtube since I heard Final Fantasy XIII out for PC, I do that because I want to experience it myself.
If there are any other release for Finak Fantasy XIII, I like to see one.
But this is my opinion :)

If not a main series then spin off would be good.
I always want to see the War of Transgression. How Vanille and Fang story before they became l'Cie until they are getting involved in the War of Transgression and how they ended up in crystal. I think that would be interesting.
But this my opinion :)

Agreed. Even LR fans would probably be annoyed if they brought out another sequel.

...wouldn't be against a prequel, provided it was done well and was an enjoyable game. And, naturally, XV's release date wasn't impacted by it.

I don't think it'd happen right now if it did. I think XIII will gain a cult following like all the FF's have and over time they might consider it. Probably a mobile game released exclusively in Japan. It'll be about Lightning's rise through the soldier ranks, and probably childhood too.
