So I'm curious to see how people view this games theme of love, do you feel it's love in a familial sense, romantic love, or self-love? I've always seen it as embodying all the different types of love and not simply romantic. Thoughts?

When people think love in FFVIII they think Squall and Rinoa. Period.

Not once have I heard people say "hmm, the theme of love might be how they all grew up in an orphanage but didn't know it" etc etc

Even the word love in this instance is often interchanged with romance :grover:

A Squall and Rinoa main course, with Laguna and his role as a beau as a side.

I think of the love of Laguna and Juliathart never had a chance reborn as the love of Squall and Rinoa after Laguna and Julia lived a happy life with Raine and Fury before Julia and Raine died. The reason for Eyes on Me, a song for Laguna to be played for their children's love.

Then we have the fear of the loss of love embodied by Squall after Ellione left him so only Rinoa was able to change him.
