Remember this nifty story (http://home.eyesonff.com/content.php/2555-Man-at-Arms-Buster-Sword-Replica) about a blacksmith making a Buster Sword? Well the same guys have now made a replica of the iconic Gunblade from Final Fantasy VIII.

Matt and Kerry Stagmer and their team of swordsmiths in Baltimore all work together in the video to reproduce Squall Leonhart's Gunblade. It's all very epic and manly. The Gunblade is the most highly requested weapon to date. The team do their best to recreate a version of this weapon that is as realistic as possible. It is not just a cut out shape of the blade, this has triggers, bullets, and a very, very, very sharp edge which is pretty deadly to watermelons.
The team did not add the firing pin to the weapon, most likely for safety reasons. Because the entire thing is clearly very safe without it.

Bloody hell, that thing is incredible.
Though this video reminded me there haven't really been any signature weapons in the FF games of late.

I swear I'll get one of these commissioned at some point. I've always wanted a gunblade. Good replicas can be hard to come by, and this looks exceptional.
For people who aren't into the "how it's made" aspect, you should at least watch the last minute where it chops through pumpkins and soda jugs like butter. It looks great!

Can't watch the video yet since I'm at school but did they even bore it to provide a barrel to theoretically fire bullets out? Whether they did or didn't, it's a bit safer handling a giant sword with a gun for a handle with no firing pin in it. I'd rather not think of them accidentally firing it while swinging at something, or worse, having the bullet and expanding gases blow out the cylinder since they have nowhere to go.

As much as I don't want to be that guy who hates on a spectacular product because of one issue, the fact that it can't fire just ruins it for me. (Not that it wasn't a wise choice.)

This is the best Men At Arms video I had ever watched! That gunblade is truly amazing! :D

It...it can't be made to fire. That was a fantasy hocus-pocus thing that was invented for the game. You can't construct a sword that will transfer the concussive force of a forced-chamber explosion into a stronger sword strike; I'm no physicist, but I'd guess that it would just break the blade.
"...It doesn't fire," indeed. :| Scoff scoff

No, but you could put a barrel through the back of the blade to let it actually be a gun and a sword. Not that that's a great idea either.
But yeah, I'd imagine an actual gunblade would either destroy the blade with the first shot, or transfer so much of that concussion back through the handle and really fuck up the users hands and wrists. Not a good idea either way.
You'd also have to show a barrel, at least the opening, which would be a disservice to how exact they try to be since no barrel opening was ever shown in the actual game weapon
I especially enjoy how when they were testing it out at the end, NOBODY'S WRIST IS BEING BROKEN
The big complaint everyone leveled at the game for such an unrealistic and ridiculous concept. Interesting

? Elaborate?
A lot of people scoff at the idea of the design behind the gunblade. Not because bullets can't shoot through a sword, but because the revolver grip would break your wrist with that amount of steel on the other end, because it's at an uneven angle. I've seen people mention it here numerous times, and in Spoony's videos raging at FFVIII he mentions it as well (Spoony the internet icon, not our own Spooniest)
I've never really fell on one side or the other. I was being more facetious than anything. But objectively this video kind of disproves their assertion
