Firstly, apologies for the delays, but it was to fix a software-related security issue we felt notable enough to warrant a server move, file clean-up and database clean-up. We tried to clean up as much as we could (all files, and chunks of the database), and I think we've done a good job overall. So, get back to posting!

If you notice anything missing/wrong, please post about it in the Feedback Forum.

In this thread you can feel free to thank Samuraid and Rantz for their help in getting everything sorted, and in particular Mike (o_O) who was working every day with me on sorting out the database as best as we could. It took longer than we would have liked - mostly due to timezones causing us to not be on at the same time as each other - but we got there in the end, even when it meant Mike and I staying up until 3am with manflu just to ease that timezone barrier. On that note, I'd also like to thank Fujiko and smittenkitten for putting up with us spending so much time on the site! :p

Welcome back, everyone! :) I hope absence has made your heart grow fonder of this place!

This place isn't as good as I remember...

Thanks a lot for all your hard work guys, we are all happy to have the sit back up and running!

EDIT: Man, whatever you've done makes this place work in the office now. xD Before it would consistently crash. Whoo skiving!

Ok. You're forgiven.

Also, since this is American Thanksgiving (the best Thanksgiving because it means I get to eat pie and gloss over the bad things my European ancestors did) I am thankful for the fact so many people volunteer their time and talent for this place. You guys rock.

Thanks, techguys. Can you elaborate on what the security issue was? Or is it too technical for a layman to understand?

We had an installation of Drupal on our (now old) server, and Drupal had this massive security flaw they rated as "25/25" on the "oh shit" scale. Apparently people could do pretty much anything with your site. So we decided that was bad. The good news is that the Drupal install didn't show up on Google and the only links to it were in the staff forum, so it's actually quite unlikely they hacked us, and we actually can't find any evidence that such a thing was done. Still, better safe than sorry with such a huge gaping security hole was sitting on your server for a week or so. We immediately deleted Drupal on the old server (or disabled the security hold, I forget which) and then planned the weekend move that turned into the fortnight move.

It's worth saying that this is probably the biggest clean-up we've done in EoFF's history, short of the early years when the entire database would get dropped. So... just know that we care about your data!

Just wait till BoB lets slip that all passwords are stored in plaintext in a database that is actually a filing cabinet.

It was my understanding that this was common knowledge.

Disclaimer for those concerned: All passwords are encrypted. But it never hurts to change your password every now and then!

I like that your site suspiciously came back online in the same hour that ours went offline yesterday. I SEE WHAT YOU DID

Also, it's lovely to have you back on the internet.

Thank you to the tech admins for doing the hard work, toiling away for weeks on what was no doubt a laborious process fraught with much difficulty and anguish.

And thank you Loony BoB for making a thread about it.

I had the same issue at work. EoFF would immediately crash upon loading the forum. Whatever they've done has fixed it forever.

Now we wait for that plugin to be reinstalled and break the forum for us again.
