We watched The Blind Side last night and I found it so touching - even more so because it's a true story.

I loved Sandy B's character in this - so fearless but so loving. Argh! She was great, and the guys playing Michael and SJ were great too!

What are some of your favourite movies that were based on a true story?

Wolf of Wall Street is the first movie that comes to mind but whether or not a movie is based on a true story doesnt really effect how much I like it.

I genuinely despise "based on a true story". It's the most wanky thing ever. xD

I heard the Blind Side was good, though. Forrest Gump is my favourite BOTS film.

My top 3 would be Goodfellas, The Wolf of Wall Street and Toy Story.

The Untouchables was a good one. It's been a long time since I've seen it, so it might be nostalgia.

A lot of 'Based on a true story' movies take artistic liberties, so I'm always wary of how much of the real story you're getting.

That being said, my favorite is probably Girl, Interrupted.

Yeah, that tag line is usually a huge turn-off for me. I think it's the wording, because usually its so far detracted from what actually happened, it seems disingenuous to say that. i think I'd prefer "inspired" by a true story. I mean, I know I'm not getting a documentary, but something about seeing things I know didn't happen. But I think it was worse when I was growing up because every made-for-TV movie was "based on a true story". Especially if you stumble across the Lifetime channel. And it was all stories about the worst life could give a woman, with cheating and abuse and murder and stuff

Things I remember mildly enjoying back in those days was probably things like Switched At Birth or The Face on the Milk Carton (which was also a book if I remember right). And I think there have been other shows/movies with those titles since, and I'm not sure if they are based on the same stories or not, but yeah. They're really not the best examples

I think it also has to do with me not liking movies that are just plain drama genre. I like some drama in my movies, but not movies of the drama category. Forrest Gump is probably the best I've seen. But I've only seen it once, and probably never will again. The same with any drama movie. Once is enough, and they're usually lucky to get that much of my attention
