After the Famitsu early look (http://home.eyesonff.com/content.php/3412-Mevius-Final-Fantasy-announced)at Mevius Final Fantasy, the newest original Final Fantasy, an official website (http://www.jp.square-enix.com/MEVIUSFF/en/index.html) has been released with a little message from producer Yoshinori Kitase:

A new era of gaming is here. We’re crafting a full-scale high-quality RPG world the likes the world has never seen before on smartphones and tablets. This is the end product of longtime Final Fantasy creators bringing the series to mobile–and things will never be the same.

The official artwork is done by Yoshitaka Amano, the character designs are being created by Toshiyuki Itahana the creator of more lighthearted designs seen in Final Fantasy IX and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, and the scenario is written by Kazushige Nojima the Writer of Final Fantasy VII and Scenario Writer Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X-2, Final Fantasy XIII, and Final Fantasy XV. The team is saying that although it isn't on a console, they will be aiming for the full Final Fantasy console quality experience.

The game itself will be extreme large and is dated to come out in Japan in Spring 2015. The name was trademarked back in October for Europe and North America. The site is in Japanese and English. Both of those lead us to believe that we will most likely see this entry on western shores.

With such a notable trio as well as a development team of “unprecedented” size for a mobile title, this may become a note worthy entry into the Final Fantasy Series.

Thoughts?

Sounds cool. I'll probably get it if my future phone is good enough for it.

Seeing as I don't ever plan on owning a full smartphone (qwerty for the win!) I would certainly hope it eventually gets ported to a portable game console. (Or as a downloadable game for a real one for that matter)

But if you turn a smart phone sideways it's a full qwerty keyboard....

I'm now interested. This seems like a lot for a mobile game. But I guess not everyone has a vita or 3ds or consoles, but near everyone has a phone.

I... really don't know what to think of it. I was a bit disappointed by the Last Story, so I'm not as excited with Sakaguchi being involved in this as others are, the idea of a big RPG on mobile is also pretty intriguing, but there's just something about all this that makes me go "eh". I guess the screenshots look sorta generic so far. Maybe that's it.

Also, I can see the dude's ass. I'm getting Vagrant Story flashbacks. Which is a good thing!

What? Smartphones have more qwerty than any other phones on the market today. Unless you have a dumb-phone with a physical slide-out qwerty keyboard, and in that case, where in the world did you find something like that and why?

Blackberry. :D Typing on a touch screen is a terrible, terrible experience.

You get used to it.

You get used to it, I don't. And even then I would have to content with the numerous other failings of smartphones. :eep:

Actually, from what I've read (http://www.siliconera.com/2014/12/16/mevius-final-fantasy-upcoming-smartphone-game-yoshinori-kitase/), Sakaguchi isn't involved in the game. He only appeared in the article about it because Famitsu was interviewing him and Kitase due to December being the series b-day.

What does Mevius mean? Google's top result tells me Mevius is the new name for a brand of cigarettes that used to be called Mild Seven.

Mild Seven Final Fantasy...
Final Fantasy Mild Seven.
Seven minus one = 6.
6 x 111 = 666.

This game could have potential and I'd be inclined to check it out *IF* it ever released in the UK, but I need to see more to peek my interest first. I like the idea that they're aiming for a full Final Fantasy experience, but the Warriors of Light storyline has been done to death. Also the automated moving around the world map doesn't exactly sound like much fun.

It was trademarked for the EU and NA back in october, so you'll probably see it.

Ah, I didn't know that. Thanks. Would have been nice if this were on Vita though, I'm getting one for Christmas so a new FF title would have been great! But mobile isn't *all* bad. Apart from the draining of the battery. When I played FFIII my battery went down ridiculously quick.

that's probably my main issue with mobile gaming. It drains the battery really fast and you need the same battery to do more important things like communicate.

Mevius is a quirky transliteration of the word moebius.

"Born of a line unending."

The infinity sign in the game's logo is really a moebius strip (http://www.umich.edu/~vrl/project2/moebius/). :choc:
