Great Question!

The popular answer is Empire Strikes Back but I always loved the assault on the Death Star and the really happy ending. A New Hope wins for me!

This is actually how I feel as well. Empire Strikes Back is really, really good, but I just love something about A New Hope. It's got a fun spark to it that I love.

I have never seen a Star Wars film all the way through.

I always liked The Empire Strikes Back because of the lightsaber duel at the end.

I can't really pick. It's been awhile since I've watched the original trilogy, but I do remember that I re-watched A New Hope a few years ago, so I'll go with that. Can't go wrong with what started it all.

I like the one where Han shoots first

But to avoid derailing the thread, I will say that I have VHS copies of the original trilogy. New Hope is my favorite by far, but I agree that Empire is the best film of the entire series.

Jedi is ok, but Ewoks really shouldn't have been that effective against Storm Troopers. That is a very valid point that I didn't consider as a kid.

Shooting first implies there was someone alive to shoot back :smug:

Empire, though I do love A New Hope.

The Force Awakens looks pretty good from the little footage I've seen so far.

I like V the most out of the original three but due to the saturation of starwars parody and references I saw before I ever saw the original trilogy I cant help enjoying Episode I the most even though I can see all it's flaws.

Return of the Jedi.

Fact it, Palpatine is, and has always been, a better villain than Vader.

And A New Hope is the very definition of Dated. I can't even watch it anymore, it just looks and sounds so bad.

I always felt that The Empire Strikes Back has a pretty slow middle. The bits with Luke and Yoda just weren't that engaging to me. If anything, I felt ever so slightly bored. Also it does sort of end on a cliffhanger (which is to be expected for a middle entry).

I went with A New Hope. I only saw Star Wars for the first time last year, and it didn't seem dated. In fact, I really enjoyed it.

as a child i loved a new hope
was stressed and anxious through all of empire strikes back
and was ecstatic through return

i've worn out the tapes i guess

A New Hope

It was a better movie. It had better pacing and overall plot than either of the other films. It was also the only story to really stand on its own.

Empire is my favourite out of those three, but I really, really enjoyed Return of the Jedi after watching the films in Machete order for the first time. A New Hope always was a little light on the force/jedi/lightsaber aspects for my tastes, those things are what really draw me into Star Wars as a universe and probably why I love anything set in The Old Republic period.

For me it's a tie between Empire and Return of the Jedi, I guess if I had to choose I'd go Return of the Jedi tho.

The final battle between Luke (with the green saber) and Vader is in my opinion the best lightsaber battle in the entire series. I hope that's what Episode 7 tries to replicate. That battle wasn't ridiculously slow like the ones in A New Hope but it also wasn't like the crazy over the top Quadruple backflip style of the prequels.

It was just two very skilled swordsman fighting, perfect.
