Because even if MMOs aren't your thing you should at least play the RTS games because they're some of the greatest of all time to be quite honest

Played WoW close to launch, getting a char to around Level 20 before dropping it forever.

Now Warcraft III on the other hand I played so much that my playtime probably exceeds that of any other game, and it's my favorite PC game of (not including visual novels)

I still play it frequently and sometimes continue mapmaking too. It's just so much fun.

All of them, including expansions. All of them extensively except the original, which I've only played a wee bit of.

There is a frowny face, though, because I am frowning at you!

You can't frown at moustachio'd ladies such as I

I played the first three but never made the jump to World of Warcraft.

I have Orcs and humans around somewhere. I really liked it!

I haven't played Orcs and Humans but Warcraft 2 is my favorite.

Is Hearthstone considered a Warcraft game though since it's cards about warcraft characters?

I currently play WoW a lot

I think I'd consider Hearthstone to be more of a spinoff game. One I tried very hard to like, by the way, but ultimately didn't.

All them them. So many hours wasted. I think I have a problem.

Definitely played 2 and 3. I think I played the original a very long time ago.

So, you know, all of the Warcraft games that are fun and actually matter.

I don't think I've played the rts games. That's one genre I haven't put much time in at all despite enjoying it. I should get into the old Warcraft games someday! I did play WoW around launch and loved it. This was mainly due to my cousin and her husband who I played with (and eventually the guild I was a part of with them), but I just really liked being in this living game world. It was the first time I experienced something like that. There is a little magic from when I first played that game that nothing has ever been able to capture for me since (including when I went back to play WoW after Cataclysm).

Warcraft 3 is really accessible, and also really good. I highly recommend everyone check that one out, at least!

Warcraft is on my to play list. Out of curiosity, would I enjoy Warcraft 3 more having played the games before it? It'll be a long time before I can get around to playing it, but I am interested!

You might a little - but honestly if you've played some WoW you'll probably get most of the references.

I tinkered around with Warcraft III and that's about it. I have seen the other ones played.

Never got into WoW, either. I'm not a big believer in paying a monthly fee to play one video game when I constantly have other games I could be playing (both new and old). I just don't get into MMOs for that reason. Before anyone starts to scream at me about free to play ones, the time factor is still an issue. Plus, I just don't like the way those games are designed. Everything is an obvious grind to sink more time into the game, and thus, more money per monthly subscription (if there is one). I don't like the assembly line of quests that everyone goes through either.

Alright, I think that probably pissed off enough people as it is, so I'll stop. Please tell me how to spend my money and time now.

I played a free trial of WoW a couple of years back and that was about it. My WoW addiction was saved by being a cheap ass mofo who didn't want to pay any monthly subscriptions. I didn't know anything about the RTS games until a few years after that.

WC3 and a bit of WoW.

I've played such a small amount of WoW that I can't remember it. It was on someone else's account.

I've played the best of the Warcraft games - that is, the entire RTS series - a lot.

A warning for anyone who hasn't played WoW and is considering it:

Lore wise, the Warcraft universe is great and the books related to it are actually written really well. If you want a series to get absorbed in, Warcraft would be the one to do so.

I've played all of them. Actually it was really easy to start WoW and then "go back" to not playing it, once I hit the level cap at the time (80) and discovered there was really nothing to do but boring raids or passable PvP. I think my subscription lasted 2 months.

I find walking away from MMO's to be one of the easiest things in the world myself. Mostly because I've never played one that was anything more than a mediocre game at best. Even if you love the social aspect or the lore, those will only get you so far in my experience.

Freya

I don't know having people I know and play with wanting me to play with them will push me to play any game. Be it a MMO, a shooter, a fighting game, minecraft, or whatever.

You all are just cynical cause of the subscription fee.

Slothy
02-13-2015, 08:48 PM
No, I hate free MMO's as well.

I'd rather have people want me to play a fun game with them. If they don't then I'll find a fun game and meet other folks to play with. That simple.

Freya

So you're playing games for a social reason? I thought those only get you so far though....

Pike

Oh I find walking away from MMOs easy as well. I usually just come back every few years. The picture was a joke yo.

Everyone always tells me that WoW is about a "social experience" or whatever, but it's not really that way for me. I just play it sometimes because it's a good game for doing my writing. I can alt-tab while on a flight point and do some writing.

Anyways I'm not sure why we're not talking about the RTS games in here because let's face it, those were god-tier.

See, I can understand that you may be joking Pike, but I also knew guys who flunked out of University because they played WoW instead of studying, going to classes, doing assignments, writing tests, etc. So the notion that someone may actually have trouble quitting is not foreign to me.

I still own my discs for the first three games and their expansions. :) I haven't played them in ages, but WCII was far and away my favorite of the bunch. I have such fond memories of rushing people with my bloodlusted ogre mages. >: D

Well, the original RTS was more a test of determination and stubbornes, but the second was truly amazing and the third was okay.
