View Full Version : Celebrities who everyone seems to love, but you secretly can't stand?

Leigh

There are celebrities that seem to attract a lot of mass appeal on the internet and media culture. Everyone seems to love these people, they can do no wrong. These people aren't even 'bad' people or generally don't seem to have anything particularly unattractive about them. But for some reason, be it antipathy, weird borderline personality rages...you just don't like them for whatever reason.

I don't like to "not stand" famous people unless they are literally Hitler or something. Because someday it might be me, or one of you, that somebody decides they "can't stand" because they said one thing or looked the wrong way at something or whatever. (inb4 this derails the thread)

I also do not think Angelina Jolie is attractive in the slightest.

But yeah, all she's done makes her seem like a really nice person. I think getting her breasts removed because she MIGHT get breast cancer in the future was a bit ridiculous, but hey, her body?

All of the people I listed had to do with their level of attractiveness or their artistic work for me (although I don't really care much for Taylor Swift on a personality level).

I don't understand why you would say that's ridiculous? I actually think that's a pretty crazy thing to say. Would you say someone who got a mole removed to possibly prevent future skin cancer is ridiculous? So often women fear the thought of having to have their breasts removed because they think it makes them less womanly or something, and they are shamed for it. For Angelina who is such a public figure to do it, and to take the time to be open about it is amazing and brave. She has taken control of her body, yeah she only 'might' have gotten cancer, but she lost her own mother to cancer so she probably felt really empowered to do it. It is her choice, and her choice actually inspired a whole lot of women to get themselves checked out for that BRCA gene mutation.

Shorty
01-18-2015, 05:02 AM
Yeah, apparently breast cancer is something that runs in her family. It doesn't really seem like something someone would do for a publicity stunt. I imagine women parting with their breasts would cause a pretty big identity issue.

George Clooney

He looks like my grandmother. I will never understand why people find him attractive or even a good actor. I understand the first thing is subjective but the second thing definitely isn't. He plays himself in every movie. He is lucky that comes off as charming and nice to people or he wouldn't have gone very far. But even that doesn't make me dislike the guy. I judge more on character than anything else.

I've met quite a few celebs and none were particularly dickish just standoffish or intense if anything. Recent one was Jason Lee from Mallrats.

Also I agree with Pike. Liam Gallagher has an awful voice and Oasis are overated garbage. I feel okay saying that since they are shitty people.

Me personally, JKT48 if you guys ever heard of them, they more like girl band or something.
I think most of the fans look on you-know-what from their appearance, I mean wearing outfit like school uniforms it's fine, but really Indonesian reaction is ridiculous. Personally, I like their music, bring more like Jpop to Indo which is good, add another Jpop genre on Indonesia like J-Rocks.
But the reaction of Indonesia people make me just can't stand it, like they never seen something like that for decades.

I mean Indonesia got to many fan services from Dangdut genre, with those "sexy moves" whatever that is, I don't really care.
When JKT48 comes around, all hate come to Jpop. It's not like all Jpop music is like that. Since around 2012 or 2013, when this cencorship breaks out in Indonesia TV. Indonesian hate to something a little more appealing is unbearable. But Dangdut genre is still pretty much welcome, but what is the different? Dangdut use their "sexy moves" meanwhile JKT48 get all the hates. "Like Japanese culture shouldn't be brought to Indo." Uhhh okay...? "How about Dangdut then? Is that really an Indonesian culture?"

And no, I'm not JKT48 fans, I just furious when all hate comes to Japanese.

The point is the ones I can't stand of is Indonesian reaction for something just come from different country.

But this is my opinion :)

Wait, did I go off topic too much??

I used to be on the hate train for T. Swift but I've really come around to her lately. I don't care for her music, but I think she's a really positive influence for young women. It's a shame she is is stereotyped for her boy songs as she also has songs on fights with friends, growing up, her mom, loneliness, anorexia, fitting in and so on.

All that plays on the radio of her music is songs about dudes she broke up with so that's all anyone knows because they're obviously not buying her albums unless their fans.

Like, I'm better on T. Swift than I was, and musically she's better but still boring and despite what she would claim an absurdly large amount of her hit singles were (and to a lesser extent, still are) about a) how she's better than other girls or b) how very high-profile boys have wronged her. This was not a case of her being treated unfairly but rather a major and deliberate part of her public image for the majority of her career. Which, I'm sorry, are pretty reprehensible themes in my opinion.

Almost every country music artist. Barely any of them know good lyrical composition. They frequently throw off their own melody by forcing words that don't work very well. They almost all have trouble doing rhymes or being imaginatively descriptive in their lyrics. It's sad when rap and rnb artists who focus on nothing but drugs money and butches can compose a more compelling lyrical style and flow. Country music artists think they have to hit everything on the nose without even trying. And everyone loves them for it. Probably because everyone can come up with the same lyrics without even trying. My brother died so now I drive his truck around! Genius...

Psh people are so willing to jump on Angelina Jolie but not Brad Pitt for being a piece of trout cheater who also contributed to the affair. Screw them both and also Jen Aniston because I'm tired of hearing about her relationship woes. I am also pretty sure Brad Pitt has been an affair before with Robin Givens when she was married to Mike Tyson. As far as I'm concerned the two home wreckers are made for each other.

I hate Anne Hathaway. She is so fake and such a diva.

Scarlett Johansson I don't mind, but I don't see why lads go mad over her. I don't find her attractive.

Jay Baruchel. His voice goes through my head.

Beyoncé. Why does she talk with a put on deep accent? Oh and the whole 'I am an angel but go out with a rapper, how cool am I?'. That song she put out 'Soldier' or whatever it was called was hilarious. Yeah that's probably wrong but it still irks me.

I agree really with many of you. Adam Levine is a plank so is so up his own ass it's embarrassing.

I've heard one or two stories from Cooper's fans meeting him and him coming off as uninterested or full of himself. Granted it could be a coincidence that they met him on an off day. Also possible, or likely, he's a douche that just plays himself in most roles. Can't say I'm honestly that fond of him myself outside of the hangover. And even there he's a douche. It's just funny in that context. Kinda reminds me of my hatred of Katherine Heigle just from seeing her in Knocked Up and then hearing rumors that's she's just that way. Who knows how true it is. I mean, what's the context of meeting these fans, though? Is it at a public event where they know fans will be there and they'll have to be met or greeted? Or is it when they're out living their private lives or when they're working and people barge over and want to meet them?

I know all of us would like to meet our celebrity idols, but you wouldn't just randomly walk up to a stranger enjoying their meal and interrupt them for a conversation and pictures. So I think if you do that to a celebrity and they're rude to you, you kind of get what you deserve. I've never understood peoples' love of Fallon either.

As for Will Farrel, have you seen Stranger Than Fiction? For one, it's a brilliant movie in its own right, and for two, it's a style break for Farrel, and he's actually really good at it. There's another, more recent, movie about him and a kid that was very different and again he played against type.

Oh, agreed. I don't think people should be allowed to terrorize/stalk/annoy their favorite celebrities, but at the same time, as long as it's always in the proper context, celebrities have to pay for their fame. Everyone knows what it involves. I know if I had fans, I'd be appreciative. Some celebrities take their celebrity for granted, and it's just obnoxious. There are plenty of celebrities who get just as much attention as anyone else and somehow have never had a bad run-in with fans. It's part of the job. All the millions of dollars and adoration and connections and privileges come with a price, and that price is not being a huge prick to people who like you.
