View Full Version : Friendly Weight Loss Competition?

I know there are several of us here on the forum who want to/are trying/are currently losing weight. I was wondered if anyone would be interested in a friendly weight loss competition? Mostly it's just to push each other and hold one another accountable, so it's just for fun.

I don't think there would be a prize (other than bragging rights) but maybe we could talk staff into giving the winner a custom title or something. Not sure how long we'd set it for (8 weeks? 10 weeks?).

Is anyone interested in doing this? If so, I would probably create a group on My Fitness Pal so we could discuss things and also keep track of the competition itself. And honestly, if you are trying to lose weight MFP is such a WONDERFUL tool and you should be using it anyways!

I would join, but only if it was the opposite, and the objective was to gain weight. I'm much better at that.

Ah, I'm not so sure I would want to participate. Not so much a fan of competition weight loss things (or competition in general) as I think that no matter how friendly, it still can make people feel bad who are already struggling with confidence issues due to their weight.

So I won't participate in this, but good luck to those who do! I'd be more interested in a support group rather than a competition.

I only have like one more pound to go and then I hopefully won't have to diet again for years, so I'll have to pass on this one :shobon:

Yeah, I'd be down for that. Can you make groups on there?

You can with SparkPeople, which is what I use mostly.

I would like to have a shot at this - even just to make an EoFF Fit Club or something where we can egg each other on to be better.

Are you guys all on MFP? I mean, we don't HAVE to do it on there. I can make a thread for this site too.

Yeah, I'm on there. My user name is Dannyeg5

Ooooh I'll join! I don't really need to lose much weight but my diet is.....bad -___- And I'd like a flatter belly :D

Is MFP an app or a website? It sounds familiar :S *goes to google*

It's a great tool for keeping track of your food and exercise. I've been doing it since New Year and I've lost 5 pounds so far. Only another 37 to go!

That's baby weight which is different! Plus, you've not been well and you've lost nearly a stone! You have a great excuse to eat what you like for a few months :D

Right, first weigh-in tomorrow then.

I sent a join request.

I'm celebrating today though because, after waffling between 160 and 162 for the last two weeks, I finally saw 159! I haven't seen the 150s since the first trimester I was pregnant with Bailey. Yay! For more pounds until I'm technically not overweight for my height!

01-21-2015, 03:08 AM
I say extend until Saturday, for sure.

I said it in the health thread, but I'm still under the weather and just starting to get back into cooking our paleo meals. I can't even walk the dog yet, though I really want to.

Plus if more people want to join :3

Oh yeah, I knew we were starting from today. I've been doing this since new year though. This friendly competition is just an extra incentive. I still hope to lose another 26 pounds so this will help me focus... and thanks very much!

I've not logged in this week at all.

It's been rough going in general and I just can't be assed to worry about it right now. I'll get back on track on Monday hopefully.

Masamunemaster
01-30-2015, 07:17 AM
I may join in on this, but I'm not going to be doing the whole diet thing. I would rather eat what I love and work out more than mentally starve myself.:)

I'll have to figure out the app and find you all.

There is one question for everyone though, is it better to get a tattoo as losing weight or wait till you get to an ideal weight then get it?

noxious.sunshine
01-30-2015, 02:06 PM
Depends on where you get it, but I'd wait until you get to an ideal weight.

That's just me though.

Masamunemaster

Ok I am on there under the same name as on here. It won't let me join the group through the internet on my phone so I'll try something.

I tried to join just waiting.

Lost another 2 pounds at yesterday's weigh-in. Had a horrible weekend with food and alcohol though. Gonna exercise more this week but I'll be drinking again on Wednesday at an open mic night. Can't see me losing much this week!

Sometimes a group of people will cash in like ten or twenty bucks (or more) for a pot to actually motivate everyone. I have a friend who won like $1200 from her group a couple of years ago who beat out a bunch of her friends!

Because the only thing sweeter than being thinner/toner than your friends is being $X richer than them, too.

02-03-2015, 05:03 AM
If I had money I would do that, but I also just ate some cupcakes she made....I think my fiance is sabotaging me:/
Will there be monetary penalties to make it more painful? :mad2::ohdear:
What I was thinking of doing is at the end of the week I would see what my days look like. If I went over I will total them all up and divide it by three and do that many pushups, sit ups, and squats.

Bubba
02-03-2015, 08:29 AM
Yeah, I trust everyone here to be honest about their weight loss. You're only cheating yourself, after all! Plus, it's a friendly competition so it's not like the winner gets a signed copy of FFXIII or anything... in fact, that might be more of a punishment.

because if theres something i love more than being fat and lazy its proving im better at not being fat and lazy than other people

Good to have you, Spooniest!

I'm dreading weigh-in on Sunday. Had an awful last 7 days. All day drinking on Sunday led to late night pizza and entire packet of chocolate digestives. Also went for food on Wed night followed by lots more alcohol at an open mic night. I went for a run last night though and going again tonight. It's more like damage limitation though. If I have just stayed the same weight then I will be amazed.

id join but i have no way of weighing in i have no scale, cause they are evil things that for me never help in the process of loosing weight, 2) i have a horrible addiction to caffeine, specifically Mt. Dew.. I've tried to give it up I really have and i can't and i know what that means, but it's not smokes (quite over a year ago) or booze (I really don't like to drink much at all) 3 i have trouble working out. I have a shoulder injury that i need surgery for and while i've found a work out program that keeps me off the floor i can't seem to keep at that for more than a week.

but I have taken steps to help! I've really cut back on my mt. dew intake (for 6 to 2 or 3 a day) i've stopped snacking on bad stuff and started in on more veggies and other natural healthily stuff and i've started trying to keep a clean house since house work is a good way to be active when i don't want to or don't feel like doing my other workout. I've also talked with my dr and we agreed that a "diet pill" would be helpful to get things going for me too.

but for the most part since it's cold and that makes things hurt more than they should in nearly 30 year old me, i'm a bump in my chair playing games.

Speaking of games i also play my wii Just dance when i have the room too.

I posted here cause I'm inspired to try to loose the weight. Im healthy according to my dr but i'd like to loose some weight knowing my mom has weight related health issues. thanks guys!!

Bubba
02-06-2015, 03:57 PM
Yeah, I've been eating well and working out (not as great as the previous two weeks, but still being active) and my scale has hardly budged. A bit discouraging, especially since I was losing weight relatively fast/consistently in the previous weeks.

I've had a big initial weight loss too, it always starts to slow down though the more you lose. Also, you'll get weeks when you've eaten really well and done lots of cardio and for some explicable reason... you gain weight! That sucks. It's points like this that it's easy to get discouraged but the key is to just keep going. Yeah, we may have had a bad week or two but we just get back on it now!

I'm just thinking of this as a lifestyle change as opposed to a diet and it seems to be keeping me relatively focused :)

Freya
02-06-2015, 04:01 PM
I suggest before and after pictures. Take like a picture a month. Compare it with where you started. You may have "gained weight" but it could be muscle and you're shaping. Sometimes a picture like that will show you to not worry about the scale.

MissH
02-06-2015, 04:09 PM
When I used to do WeightWatchers, the first thing they always said was measure yourself. Because some weeks you'll get on the scales and be like whaattt?!! But your body may have changed in that you've turned fat into muscle or whatever and by doing your measurements you can see exactly where your body is changing and stuff.

I'm certainly not looking forward to having to lose baby weight once baby is born.

Good luck everyone!

Pumpkin

I'm not doing le contest because that would make me feel pressured and I don't work well under pressure when it comes to certain things, but I have lost weight by dancing for about 20 minutes twice a day! Going to start adding a jog to it soon. Haven't changed my diet at all yet
