Even though we're a month into the New Year, it’s still a good time for people to think about the things they’d like to do for the rest of the year. Sure, we could all lose some weight. We could even try to become more assertive. Or we could just play more Final Fantasy. Here are five Final Fantasy related things you need to do this year, whether it’s for the first time, or you’re doing it again the fifth time.

Find and defeat WarMech (Final Fantasy)

WarMech is considered by many the first superboss in the Final Fantasy series. 62234This super rare, super difficult random encounter on the floating fortress’ bridge is almost as hard to defeat as it is to find. Armed with the ability to NUKE your team into oblivion, WarMech is one tough machine. On top of that, it also has inherited preemptive strike, meaning some of your team members may not get a chance to defend themselves.

Raise a Golden Chocobo (Final Fantasy VII)

62235This may be a very time consuming task, but the rewards for doing so are fantastic. Some of the best Materia in the game can only be redeemed with the help of a Golden Choc (including Knights of the Round).

Beat the Queen and Collect Them All (Final Fantasy VIII)

Complete the Queen of Cards sidequest and retrieve all the cards you’ve lost, from her son, so you can have a complete set.

Get the Hollywood Ending (Final Fantasy X-2 HD Remastered)

Get 100% so Yuna could get her perfect ending at the end of Chapter 5, even if you think it’s a copout. Don’t forget to talk to the Moogle at the beginning of the game while chasing LeBlanc’s crew!

Find Cloud (Final Fantasy Tactics)

Retain Mustadio Bunansa in your party and go through the lengthy sidequest to get Cloud in Sal Ghidos. Be sure to find his Materia Blade in Mount Bervenia, so he can do his Limit Break techniques as well.

If everything goes well, I'll attempt to do all of these. I probably won't bother doing the 100% ending for X-2 since I believe that requires at least two playthroughs, which wouldn't be a problem since I had beaten X-2 twice on PS2, but I no longer have a PS2 and this is the HD version you're asking it to be done on and I don't own a copy which means I'll have to buy it and beat it twice in a year, which I know won't happen.

I never bothered with Chocobo breeding at all in VII, Chocobo stuff in IX is a lot more fun, but I guess I'll give it a try.

Eh, it wouldn't matter if you did it on the PS2 version, but since you no longer have one anyway, that's a moot point.

I also believe you can get 100% in X-2 in the first playthrough. I missed it myself by 1.2% or something, if I recall correctly. One thing I forgot was that darn Moogle @ the beginning.

Chocobo breeding was pretty fun. Good luck trying all of these!

I think the 100% completion of X-2 is the only thing I haven't done in this list.

May I add a few more?

You can definitely get 100% in one playthrough. It's an arduous task which requires much patience, but it can be done. It's just easier to get over two playthroughs, I believe.

I've gotten all the Cards, I've Gotten the Golden Chocobo, I've gotten 100% on FFX-2.

I've never played FFT and I dislike FF1 so I'll probably take ages to get round to them.

I'm sticking with simple normal challenges present in the game as opposed to crazy hardcore challenges.

Master all the spells and weapons across the final four characters in FFII

Acquire all the High Level Summons in FFIII by defeating them. No buying in Eureka.

Acquire the Adamant Armor in FFIV by getting the Pink Tail.

Acquire all four Monster summons in FFIV.

Defeat the Gil Snapper in FFV

Defeat ExDeath without using Bare/Freelance or Mime classes

Acquire the Chainsaw in Zozo without cheating.

Defeat Siegfried and Chupon in the Coliseum

Get the Parasol without cheats in the Roller Coaster ride.

Complete Zell/Librarian girl Quest

Blue Mage Challenge: Any game with a Blue Mage character, complete their spell list.

Done already. I even have a trophy for the 100% one. Seeing how you get almost every Triple Triad Card from Diamond simply collecting the cards has multiple ways, Diamond being the easiest of them, way easier than getting all the rare cards - except Koyo Koyo - normal. I love getting some of them however normally as long as I am in the mood.

Done these. Will not do mostly any of them again. Especially Warmech. Fudge that.

For all the playthroughs of FFVIII I've done, I've never bothered to get the Pupu card. That is certainly next on the agenda.

How did you manage to do that? As far as I heard, the drops for those items are super rare including the pink tail. I think on my first playthrough I got Bomb, but every playthrough after that I never got it again or any others.

Never done any of anything being mentioned here, but as a blue mage fan, I might just try that one out. I don't have the time or patience for any others.

Actually, I just remembered that in War of the Lions I did managed to meet Cloud, except he went off running somewhere and I never saw him again. Guess this doesn't count.

Screw Yuna's Hollywood ending. That game is way too much trouble to get 100%.

Goblins, Bombs, Piscodemons & Eagle types of monsters also RARELY drop a summon, where you can summon those four monsters in battle. Don't remember if there are any others, as these things are insanely rare.

BTW, fought & defeated WarMech (or as it's called Death Machine) last week. Pretty easy on the GBA version.
