View Full Version : Would store bought pizza contain these mushrooms (serious question - contains video)

I realize this is kind of a strange thing to ask, but I need to know if it's likely for a store bought pizza to contain the mushrooms that the pizza did in the video (Ink Cap Mushrooms). dnMuI_jbbHc

I'd most like to know today, as I ate a pizza with mushrooms yesterday, and the box didn't say what they were, and I'd like to know because you have to wait 4-5 days or something before you drink alcohol. Does anyone here know if it's likely for a store bought pizza to contain these, I'd really like to know soon (very soon if possible, I plan on drinking tonight).

i've never seen pizza with mushrooms that weren't champignons

no one, especially in america, would dare selling products with mushrooms that would kill you if you drank alcohol without informing about it. they would be sued for enormous amounts of money

Thanks for answering me, just checking this would be the same in the UK right? That's where I am.

I know I'm sounding like an idiot, but I get paranoid at times, I will admit.

Did you buy it from Tesco?

Did you buy it from Tesco?
Yes, I did (not their own, if they have one though - it was Goodfella's if that helps).

Was it a bacon and mushroom Goodfella's?

The main topping was pepperoni and churitzos, but it had mushrooms on it as well (I could see them, at least I think they were them, and it said mushrooms on the back, abiet a small-ish percentage).

Considering pizza and alcohol is a pretty common combination I reeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaalllly doubt you have anything to worry about

Now we're getting somewhere. How would you say the mushrooms tasted?

MJN SEIFER
02-06-2015, 08:32 PM
Ah...

I didn't really notice if I'm honest, I kind of cooked the pizza higher than I was supposed to, so it... wasn't burnt exactly, but it was crispy enough that you wouldn't know real differences in the toppings (yeah...)

Also, to Pumpkin: I see your point, and your probably right, but I'm just making sure.

Hmm. Okay, not to worry. We can still find out in other ways. Ink caps contain a cyclopropylglutamine compound called coprine. So, how did it smell?

MJN SEIFER
02-06-2015, 08:42 PM
Unfortunately I can't really remember the smell. It was yesterday, and I didn't really take note of the smell, but I don't think that it was anything I haven't smelt before. i.e. there was nothing strange about it...

Hopefully I'm not forgetting something.

Psychotic

So you don't think it smelled like coprine? If it didn't smell like coprine you're probably okay.

MJN SEIFER
02-06-2015, 08:47 PM
Well I don't know what it smells like, but like I said - I don't remember anything smelling strange, which I'd notice even if I didn't know what I would have smelt, right?

Psychotic

Did you smell a sort of vegetably, earthy smell?

MJN SEIFER
02-06-2015, 08:51 PM
I don't think so...

*fingers crossed*

I think we're good then. If you start to feel funny, you should seek medical advice as soon as possible. Do you know the number for NHS Direct?

MJN SEIFER
02-06-2015, 09:03 PM
Yes, I got an up to date phone book today. :)

I will also admit, that I know to stop drinking as soon as I notice things going strange, and should be okay if I stop then, and not drink after that (the only useful thing I found on Google), but I thought I'd make sure.

You should also try to eat something else. Do you like pork scratchings?

MJN SEIFER
02-06-2015, 09:07 PM
I don't have any on me.

I'm actually staying in tonight; I tend to drink on weekends, with a meal, obviously.

Psychotic
02-06-2015, 09:11 PM
Excellent. What meal are you having tonight? Not pizza, I hope!

MJN SEIFER
02-06-2015, 09:16 PM
No, it's not Pizza. :)

It's chicken escolops, chips, and salad (not the most healthy meal, aside from the salad, but - it's the weekend).

Assuming this is an okay meal to have, I normally have a pint of beer while I wait for it. Would that also be okay, or shall I bypass that, and just have the wine with the meal? If I can drink at all.

Psychotic

What kind of beer is it?

MJN SEIFER
02-06-2015, 09:19 PM
Guiness.

And the wine is Tesco's Australian red, if that's important.

Would this be the wine which we are discussing?

MJN SEIFER

Yes.

02-06-2015, 09:25 PM
Hmm. That might be okay. That said though, I had trouble narrowing down the escalopes situation. What are we looking at here, Bernard Matthews (http://www.tesco.com/groceries/product/details/?id=255945073) or Tesco's own (http://www.tesco.com/groceries/product/details/?id=267289548)?

MJN SEIFER
02-06-2015, 09:27 PM
It's Bernard Matthews.

Psychotic
02-06-2015, 09:28 PM
Oh thank goodness for that. If you look in the ingredients it's got Antioxidant (Sodium Ascorbate) and Stabiliser (Diphosphates) so you should be well away should the worst come to the worst.

MJN SEIFER
02-06-2015, 09:31 PM
Thank God...

Should I wait until I'm actually eating it before I actually drink any alcohol?

Edit: and once I've eaten it, I should be okay after that, right? Like for tomorrow, and so on?

Psychotic
02-06-2015, 09:32 PM
That depends. How many escalopes are you cooking?

MJN SEIFER
02-06-2015, 09:34 PM
Just the two.

Psychotic
02-06-2015, 09:35 PM
Okay, what you could do is eat one, then have a drink, then eat the other. How does that strike you?

MJN SEIFER
02-06-2015, 09:37 PM
Thanks, I'll do that.

Once I've done that, I can just carry on as I normally would?

Yes, but you may wish to avoid operating heavy machinery for a time. Do you have any plans to operate any?

MJN SEIFER

Yes,
Excelent. Thanks for all the help, and thanks for putting up with my paranoia.

I'm really sorry about this, but I still need to check something to be sure.

I didn't go through with the alcohol in the end, I did what Psychotic said, and had one escallop first, and then had some wine, but after much dithering, I eventually stopped drinking it. Because I wasn't too sure if I felt right, which admittedly might be due to not being very relaxed, and also because I took quite a while to actually eat, as I was doing this. Do you think that I'll still be able to drink tomorrow. seeing as I still had the escallops tonight? (I'm not saying there was anything wrong with me, tonight).

I don't think I have any symptoms. I think I feel okay, though I am aware of my heart beating when I concentrate on it, or more to the point place my hand on it, but that should be normal, right? It seems to be the normal pace, in fact it's even calmed down at the moment.

I'm really sorry about this.

EDIT: I'm probably alright, as from the look at another site, I should have immediately felt like I was having a hangover, which I didn't. But please still answer the other stuff.

What is going on? Is this serious?

As as for the pizza I'm pretty sure that tesco just use regular button mushrooms otherwise they'd have to specify the type.

I agree with fury.

They're probably just white button mushrooms.

I'm a day late obviously (didn't want to tempt fate, I guess) but both last night, and the night before I drank the same amount I usually drink, and as you can see, I'm fine. In fact, I didn't even feel the slightest bit weird.

The first night (when I had some wine, then chickened out) was hopefully just paranoia. Thanks for putting up with me on this everyone.

Yes, this was serious, unfortunately. I tend to get paranoid very easily, and I just wasn't sure if I was safe or not, but you're probably right that they would specify the type if there was a risk involved.
