View Full Version : Do you think this game could work as a single player experience?

I've always wanted to experience the story in the game, but I probably never will at this point. I remember when it came out, I heard lots of people say they should make it into a single player game just because they didn't want to play an MMO. I kind of doubt that most MMOs would work well turning into a single player rpg without changing the game almost entirely, but I think it would make an interesting topic all the same.

How do you think this game would look if made into a single player game? Do you think it would work well as one?

I should mention first that I haven't played the game so I'm no expert. But I've been researching the past couple days and this is what I've found out.

It looks like they've been making the game more solo friendly the past few years. The game admittedly has far fewer players than before, but it's still going quite strong. To counter the decline in players, leveling is somewhat easier and about 3/4 of the game could be completed solo. I want to stress "could be," but probably not recommended.

Anyway, I know people are going to say, "single-player isn't the point of an MMO and it would ruin the game." Coming from a Final Fantasy fan and someone who prefers to play alone in my own time, I would love it if they remade this into a single player game in the future. Although, that probably would only happen when hardly anyone is logging on anymore.

Xenoblade is a lot more similar to FFXI than FFXII is.

I agree with Mirage. FFXII has an MMO feel but it's more different from XI.

FFXI in itself wouldn't work well as a single player game since a lot of it is focused on party grinding.

I don't get why they made the two MMOs numbered games. Why not Final Fantasy Online or something?

I don't understand why people still ask that question almost 13 years after the fact

Has it really been 13 years? And there was only one single player FF released in that time? My gods.

I don't get why they made the two MMOs numbered games. Why not Final Fantasy Online or something?

Because they get more subscriptions making it a main number title.

As for the original question, I'm leaning towards no since it was designed to be a MMO. I haven't played the game enough to really judge how it'd do as a single player experience.

Because they have everything a numbered final fantasy needs!

It also shows that they are serious about supporting the game. If it was a spinoff title, people might not think they'd put their hearts and souls into it.
