Mushrooms!

Lately I've been fixated on the beauty these little fungis project, and I love finding them on walks or hikes. I do my best to find them when I'm out and about and I don't know what it is about them, but they're cute and amazing and majestic all at once.

Despite the facts that mushrooms grow toward sunlight, scientists do not actually know how they use sunlight, only that the do. Unlike "normal" plants, mushrooms don't produce chlorophyll, so they don't undergo photosynthesis.

There are also several species of bioluminescent fungi that can glow in the dark (http://news.mongabay.com/2013/0613-kimbrough-glowing-fungi.html). Mushrooms literally grow off of decay and decomposing matter in order to recycle life and are overall amazing organisms.

I've only had mushrooms once and they were given to me by a strange man at a party, thankyouverymuch :colbert: I don't walk around picking things off the ground and putting them in my mouth! That's unsafe!

Oh em gee, I have seen some beautiful mushrooms on walks lately. We have had such good rain that they have grown together in clusters of awesomeness. I've not noticed really before, but I've been hiking in such bad weather, and it's so wet lately that they've been thriving.

I've not seen any as good as those pictures, but they definitely been more distinctive than usual. I love the spring/summer walks that my area provides but I for sure will miss what this winter/spring has brought in terms of plant growth. I for sure won't neglect it next year just because it's cold!

They are pretty cool, but sort of gross at the same time. I mean, more exotic ones can be pretty, but the reason why they grow most of the time is icky.

I think mushrooms (and toadstools) are cool when they are out in nature, being natural, doin' what nature does.

I do not think mushrooms are cool when they are being served to me with the intention of me digesting them. No. No no no no no no no. The things should stick to looking cool and being alive. None o' this eating nonsense.
