In the classic era it seemed normal to walk into an arcade and find a steering wheel attached to an arcade cabinet. Which treasured racing gaming experiences, cabinet, console or PC, can you recall from the pre Gran Turismo days?

Additionally, Need for Speed 2: SE (http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/need-for-speed-ii-se). This game actually predates Gran Turismo by about half a year, so it totally counts.

Vigilante 8 came out after Gran Turismo, I'm fairly certain. At least the sequel. There's other games, like Spy Hunter, that had a lot of driving but weren't actually racing games. I liked those too.

Anyway, racing games...

Moto-Cross(Fonz) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fonz_%28video_game%29) I remember the vibrating handlebars!

Grand Prix Circuit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Prix_Circuit_%28video_game%29)

Rad Mobile (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rad_Mobile). I remember Sonic handing from the rear view mirror. His first game appearance, even before any of his own games!

Rage Racer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rage_Racer)

And others I'm forgetting.

Pole Position was great.

Rad Racer was pretty good for the NES.

Of course, Super Mario Kart.
