Yeah. You actually need to brake on 200cc, apparently.

Raise your hands if you forgot there was a brake button.

I know I'm not going to do well in this.

I wonder if this is going to change the speed in Time Trial (hope not).

Soon they'll have 500cc or even 1000cc options.

You mean there are other ways to slow down than letting go of the accelerator?

Obviously.

Running into things and getting hit by items.

Pardon the double post, but there's a Japanese trailer showing off the eight new courses. More F-Zero incoming (complete with music).

200cc races. With the Blue Falcon. On Mute City or Big Blue.

It's not a new F-Zero game, but I guess it's close?

At this point, instead of making an actual F-zero game, it is probably easier to just make a F-Zero DLC with all the tracks and vehicles, and 500cc. Perhaps some more f-zeroish mechanics for that mode too.

I see Nintendo added the pink haired girl.

they did. two villagers.

In either case, 200cc is hard. i might have to drop the heavyweights for that class.

200cc is insanely hard. I've only managed to win 1 race on it so far.

I kinda like that it's incredibly anti-Nintendo in the sense that it's just brutal mayhem.

Haha, alas no. My first gaming device was a Commodore 64. You can guess the rest.

I didn't mean it was anti-Nintendo because of difficulty. I meant in terms of being unconstrained and chaotic. Nintendo tend to like their games to be very well-oiled machines, even when they're difficult. Whereas this 200cc mode feels like it was made by an indie dev who just slapped some ideas together and toggled a few values and thought "yeah, this looks badass".
I appreciate its existence as an add-on. But it'd be terrible if it was the default.

Honestly, I think 200cc mode has wound up as slightly easier, and a ton more fun, than 150cc mode. Granted, you have to learn the new racing lines. But the higher speed tends to stall out the item problem that has plagued the game. It's easier to catch up due to the multitude of shortcuts the higher speed allows, and it's easier to space yourself from your opponents to avoid the constant bombardment of items.

I played some Mario Kart 8 tonight with my sister. It'll be a while before we get to try the 200cc mode, we've only had a Wii U for just under a week so we're currently making our way through the 150cc cups. We've only just unlocked the Banana cup xD
