Do you smoke, or do you find it disgusting?

I only smoke when I drink. I'm trying to quit altogether.

Especially considering my daughter is at that age when she -knows- smoking is bad and absolutely loathes it. The maybe 2 times she's caught me, she had an absolute meltdown and went apeshit on me.

Cigarettes are mad expensive here - upwards of $13/pack so it's not a habit that we really ought to be having.

Ahh, good 'ol social smoking. That's how I first started. I'd still continue to say "I only smoke when I drink", even when I started smoking more. Maybe I started drinking more?! xD Either way, I smoke more now than I ever have in the past.

I used to loathe smoking a LOT and never had cigarette until I was about 19. Then year nothing, then I somehow smoked 20-21 idk even why and now I am nonsmoker again for about 4 months, not smoking even while drinking.

The only thing I do occasionaly (read maybe once a month) is hookah with friends but I find that more ritual than anything even though I know it's just as bad as cigarettes.

I don't smoke. That's really expensive. I seem to be in the minority of people who don't and never have smoked, but don't find it disgusting. Not like chewing tabaccy. Now that's disgusting.

I don't smoke often. There have been occasions where while I was drunk I was interested in smoking, but those instances (like my drinking) are few and far between.

I have never smoked, nor do I ever intend to. Nothing about the experience appeals to me. Not the mood alteration, not the smell, not the flavor, nothing.

That being said, I couldn't smoke even if I wanted to. My lungs are already smurfed, so I'd never do that to myself. It makes me a bit bitter towards people who DO choose to smoke when some of us have to fight to breathe okay. And then they later need disability or lung transplants. Winds me up a bit.

This. This. This. THIS! I have asthma and my lungs collapsed when I was little, so smoking is an extremely bad idea for me all around. Doesn't help that I have allergies against it to boot. One time I was stuck in line in front of the Sprint Center and this asshat was smoking in front of me and I didn't have anywhere to smurfing go. I hate public smoking.

Never even tried it. It was drummed into me from day 1 that it's a Very Bad Thing and whilst I can't deny some natural curiosity of the unknown, I've just never even been curious enough to do that "one quick swig of one and a splutter" that most non-smokers seem to have done. I think it just crosses that line for me between "it won't do much harm to try it once" and "you wouldn't stick your fingers in an electrical socket no matter how curious you are" in terms of whether I act on it or not.

I don't have any particularly strong feelings about others smoking, now that it's banned in enclosed places of business such as offices, pubs, etc. Basically you're no longer forced to passive smoke if you want to socialise or work or whatever, so for me it's a thing of the past. I used to hate coming home from a night out reeking of it.

I used to socially smoke when I would drink or road trip and go through a pack of cloves about once a year, but lately I'm completely put off from it because it shreds my lungs. I am probably one of the only people who will ever admit to liking the smell. :shobon: Must be memory-based for me!

I have never been addicted. Can easily go on a rampage for a few weeks then stop.

Tried it a few times. Never liked it. I hate that smoky feel in my throat and lungs. Don't smoke weed for that same reason.

I'm always surprised when I discover people under the age of 40 who smoke. I mean, there are basically no incentives to doing it, and a huge number of disincentives, and somehow some people still do it anyway. Assuming we're just talking about cigarettes, of course.

I smoke and have done since I was about fifteen or so. I smoke a lot less now than I used to, and got an E-Cig last year. If I was lucky enough to not need to work, I'd probably find it quite easy to quit. There are some days where I'll be at home all day and won't even think about smoking, and others where I'll end up smoking a full pack. The E-Cig only really comes into use when I'm sat at my desk, but does stop me from smoking actual cigarettes when I'm using it so it helps a little. There are times where I actually enjoy a smoke, and it's similar to having a nice cold beer after a long day of work and there's just something incredibly satisfying about it. Other times I'll regret lighting up and question why I even started in the first place. I wouldn't suggest starting to anyone, and try my best to smoke away from others or refrain from smoking if I'm stuck in a crowd

I know how bad it is for my body, but if I had any real desire to quit then I would have done so long ago. Maybe one day I will.

I put the "Tried it, but didn't like it" option only because that's the closest to my experience. I never had the desire to smoke, and I have never officially picked up the habit myself. However, when I was really drunk I have taken a couple of drags a couple of times only as a joke. Even with my senses dulled I didn't see the appeal. Then again, I did smoke at a hookah bar before and my lungs were fried within minutes. I just think putting any smoke in my lungs just bothers the crap out of me. Same reason why I never smoked pot. I literally could if I wanted to at any time, but I just really can't jive with smoke in my lungs.

Never have, never will. I grew up surrounded by people who smoke. Both parents have smoked all my life. All of my extended family, save a cousin or two smoke. My sister smokes. Me and my younger brother are the only ones who have never smoked.

I find it pretty gross honestly. It stinks. It messes cars and housing up. A huge fraction of the people who do smoke are pretty inconsiderate about it, and don't seem to think that cigarette butts are litter (they are) and that using other people's foliage as an ash tray is cool (it's not).

I actually don't mind being around people smoking cigars though. I don't really know why. I have no desire to smoke them either, but the smoke and smell they emit just doesn't bother me like cigarettes do. Which is especially strange when you consider cigarettes are what I grew up around.

I'm always astounded how smoking is still a thing. There's no secrecy to the harmful and damaging effects it has, there's not a lot of television or movies that portray it as "cool", it's insanely expensive, it's banned in most places outside your home or your car. I'm not sure why it persists, and even more perplexed why anyone would start. I have allergies and asthma caused by allergies and smoking so it'd be a terrible idea for me to start. I've tried it, I even purposely tried to get addicted to see how easy it would be to stop so I could scoff at people who act like its such a hard thing to do. But I never really seriously took it up, and it's hard to think anyone who chooses to do it is capable of many good decisions, but to each their own I suppose. I just can't hang out with anyone who does it regularly. Causes "allergy-like" symptoms, which can't be fought with allergy meds, because it doesn't actually cause an allergic reaction, just a similar reaction

When I was really drunk in my early 20s is was known to randomly bum cigarettes off people because I was curious. Nicotine is amazing, what it does to your brain for a few seconds. Otherwise it tastes like a butt.

I used to smoke pretty heavily, we're talking 20 a day and my brand was Marlborough Red which as far as the UK goes at least means I enjoyed partaking of the strongest ones on the market. I quit cold turkey because I didn't like the way weed and the stuff in the weed that I was smoking at the time affected me. I personally quite like the smell too, perhaps that's because a fair few members of my family smoke or were smokers when alive. My father (deceased), sister, brother in law, brother and nan (deceased) all smoke quite heavily, though it must be pointed out that none of the deaths in my family have been attributed to smoking but it can't be ruled out as a contributor. I'm not someone who gets hurt by or disgusted by the idea of someone I'm dating or friends of mine smoking, even in my presence. I prefer to not let them do it in my room but that is because my tenancy on my house stipulates that smoking should be outside not indoors. Sometimes that just means I open my window and the person smoking sits on my window ledge and smokes through the window though.

Sometimes, I'll go through a phase where I'll pick up a packet or two and smoke them just for fun it doesn't "stick to me" anymore, nothing apart from chocolate, exercise and soft drinks seems to. I guess quitting so harshly has made me immune to the cravings associated with the addiction.

Tried it and my good lord it is fucking awful. Never smoked and never been with anyone who smokes. Not sure if that's a concious decision but I couldn't be in a relationship with someone who tasted like that.

Pre-pregnancy though, MissH and I would get one of the flavoured Shisha Pipes on the beach in Dubai. After a while though it made me feel really sick.

Shisha especially abroad often contains a simple ingredient: Hashish - Hash for short. Yup weed is commonly found in them. Smoking a Shisha pipe for several hours can of course make you feel sick. As can smoking too much weed. Especially if you're not used to it.

Weed is not found in hookah shisha xD In no place I have ever been or smoked has there been weed in hookah tobacco.

It also makes me ill after too much of it, but I really like a few little puffs when I have a nice buzz going.

I grew up around nothing but smokers. My dad, all siblings, 90% of my cousins and aunts and uncles. I always considered them weak. I got tired of hearing smokers tell people not to smoke. And act like they shouldn't be smoking, but keep doing, and pretend to be unable to stop. Also grew up with a few alcoholics. Brother especially bad, with the typical story of losing his job and family and crap. So much addiction in my family. Alcohol itself is non-addictive, and once I was old enough to drink and un-demonize it, I realized just how weak my brother was. So I also wanted to know how weak the rest of my family was. I knew cigarettes were legitimately addictive, I wanted to know how much. I needed to know how weak my family was. Or if there was a real problem with cigarettes. Scoff at me if you want, but it was something that had haunted me since childhood and I really had to know. I tried marijuana for the same reason. To see if it was rightfully demonized or if the pot-heads I knew were just weak. But yeah. I smoked half a pack in a night, and felt no future desire. So either I just don't have an addictive personality or they're not half as addictive as people pretend they are

No, but I used to. I smoked for several years. I've used an ecig for 8 months now, and I will never go back to cigarettes.

I've tried one or two since quitting, and it just tastes awful, smells awful and makes me feel sick. So, I don't even crave real cigarettes anymore.

My ecig tastes fresh and minty, gives me the nicotine that I crave and my health and fitness has improved leaps and bounds. The only downside to quitting smoking was the insomnia that came with it, I barely slept for three weeks.

Nope. I tried it and went through a weird few months where I would smoke menthols when drunk, but I was never really into it.

I can't stand the smell of smoke. My best friend went to uni and got close with a girl who was a chain smoker and consequently began smoking frequently also (she still does). It really upsets me. The girl ended up getting cancer but still smokes- what an idiot.

I could never be with someone who smokes. It'd be like kissing an ashtray- ewww.

More recently I've developped a deeper hate for cigarettes (and idiots) after seeing lines of pregnant women outside the maternity unit just puffing away on them. It makes me wanna smack them in the face.

I've smoked about 30 cigarettes in my life, all of them when I first turned 18 and went partying in town. Was more of a social thing really, but it just made me feel gross in the morning so I don't bother anymore.

I've never smoked shisha and I've smoked weed about three times, but wasn't really a fan.

The only thing I've smoked in the last 4 years are a couple of cigars.

It has nothing to do with that considering it's a company name. The correct way is Malboro.

Except that it's not. It's actually Marlboro.

... and the only reason it's called Marlboro is because the first ever factory for these cigarettes was on Great Marlborough Street in London. However, the brand name Marlborough was subsequently changed so the average American consumer was able to understand and pronounce the word.

Used to. Quit about two months ago. Cold turkey. Won't go back. I can't stand the smell. Especially now that I actually have a sense of smell again. I was constantly embarrassed about smelling like an ashtray everywhere I went. And yeah, kissing a smoker is a terrible awful experience. I loathe being around my smoker friends now. It might even be bad enough to mean some of those friendships come to an end, but dammit it's worth it, even so.

Tried a few regular ones when I was younger, and it was pretty nasyt/forgettable.

Tried a few menthol ones and it was just nasty/forgettable with fake mint aftertaste.

One thing I do like is cigar and pipe tobacco. Not smoking it, just the smell of it before it's burned. I used to buy my comics from a little mom 'n' pop store that also sold lots of pipe tobacco, so my comics always smelled great.

I could totally have some potpourri bowls around the house with things like cherry pipe tobacco or something in them.

Completely with you on that one. My one older cousin used to always smoke pipes around when I was a kid, and I loved the smell. So I guess it's not just the unburned one for me. Pipe tobacco just smells good. Unfortunately I don't think I've ever smelled flavored ones. Though my older brother has always smoked Marlboro so I have a mild nostalgia for that smell when associated with old video games like the original Final Fantasy and other NES games. (Listening to old Guns & Roses songs has the same effect for the same reason xD)
