Was anyone else weirded out to see gold used as currency in this game? Because I came into the series late I gotten so used at seeing gil as the universal currency that a Final Fantasy game where they just used plain old gold made me do a double take. Newb question: When was gil introduced anyway? Do you prefer gold or gil as the currency?

Also, yeah. Gil is the only way. Gold isn't right! As far as I'm aware it's just the first two games that use Gold?

From an English speaking perspective gil was introduced with FF7. I hear that the GP from the SNES entries was a translation of gil, but I'm not sure about that.

I think gil is much better, way less generic. Also reminds me less of the high fantasy setting, of which I am not particularly fond.
