View Full Version : Mad Men
Anyone else watch this show? For the last few weeks Denmark and I have been marathoning it, and we're only a handful of episodes from being caught up (not that there's much left of the series to watch live).
LET'S TALK ABOUT THESE ANGRY MALES

I like Mad Men. I am on the first or second episode of the sixth season, so I am behind. Don is easily the character I am the most emotionally invested in.

Glad somebody made a thread for this, I've always been a bit disappointed that the community here doesn't seem too into the show.
Mad Men is probably the best show I've ever seen, and has personally been a very significant piece of media in my life. It's gotten a little hard to watch in the last two seasons (S6 is particularly heart-breaking) but I'm still invested.
My favorite episode is either The Wheel from S1 or Far Away Places from S5. Both were just incredible television.

Look forward to it every week! Love what they've done with Peggy throughout the series, hate what they've done to Betty.
Same! I used to sympathize with Betty, but she's gotten worse every season. Whereas I used to HATE Peggy, but she's probably one of my favorite characters now.
The character I REALLY hate what they've done with is Harry Crane. He used to be an intelligent, stand-up guy. He cheated on his wife the night Kennedy was elected, but he was drunk and instantly regretted it (once he remembered it when he woke up...). He fought really hard to get his wife back and they seemed to be happy with one another.
Now he's just another sleaze ball--probably the sleaziest of all the guys at the agency, to be honest--and getting a divorce.

I haven't yet made it to the first season finale. So far, Betty is a :bou::bou::bou::bou: and Peggy needs to grow some balls.

Haha, if you think Betty is a turd now, just wait!

I hate it too, but it's a totally realistic slide given the environment he's in.
Really, the only exec who didn't have his core personality tainted by his colleagues was Ken Cosgrove, but - without spoiling it - he literally sacrifices part of himself for the business.
(Also, some of the things you mentioned are mildly spoiler-y. It's not the worst thing to give away, but I think the show is better if you naturally watch the characters change rather than knowing their terminal destinations ahead of time.)

The end of the first season contains one of the finest moments of television I've ever seen. Enjoy.
Well, since the show is in its final season with three episodes to go, I wasn't really marking spoilers.

Not a big deal. I'm just very protective of my Donald Draper.
Is anyone watching the last season? We just watched the episode from Sunday. I feel like the season is hitting its stride. The first two episodes were a little odd imo, but I think the themes are starting to coalesce a little more.
I thought it was better because none of that stupid waitress!
The stuff between Betty and Glen made me very uncomfortable, though. Ick.

Its finished now
Did you watch it?
Did you understand it?
Did you like it?
I dont know how I feel about it. For some reason I thought there were going to be 8 episodes this season so I didnt feel any of the weight until the last 10 minutes. And the rest of the finale does feel like its 3 episodes from ending.

Ditto on not knowing what to feel about it. It's a good video though, aesthetically. I got lost on the middle part lol

I loved the ending. I don't know how they could have wrapped it up any better.

Don Draper = D.B. Cooper!
At first I hated the ending, but the longer it's gone on, and the more I think about it, I think it was perfect.

I didn't realize they were implying that Don made the coke commercial at first. I just thought it was a really fitting ad to end on. But likewise, the more time has gone on the more I've realized it couldn't have been a more perfect way to go out.
I think a lot of storytelling aspects in Mad Men have that satisfying slow-burn effect, really. There are lots of things that have happened over the timeline of the show that I didn't like at first, but loved later on after reflecting on it. I haven't been able top thinking about the show since the finale on Sunday.
