When you say/hear washroom, do you think of the bathroom or the laundry room?

The bathroom, but it's really more of an American word anyway.

Washroom you say? I think of the Bathroom but only just because I'm used to American English. Plus a Laundry is still a Laundry in the USA regardless of whereabouts you live.

I think of laundry room, but I know the reference is to the bathroom.

This subject has been brought up because I also call our laundry room the wash room.

It has a washer and it's where we wash our laundry (I know, the plan is deviously clever in it's simplicity.), so I always wind up calling it the wash room

I bathe in a bathroom, so I always call them bathrooms. Well, I shower in the bathrooms, but whatever.

I can see where the confusion comes from, but it's just what I always wind up calling the laundry room. :jess:

I'm surprised in Utah it doesn't mean a hydroelectric dam or something.

No, but we're from there. Huxley wants to live there, that's why he's asking.

And you don't know, Huxley, it might :colbert:

I call it the bathroom or the restroom, but I've heard it called the washroom before so I think of bathroom when I hear washroom. I'd never heard laundry room called washroom until his family

It's led to some confusing conversations

Who even calls it a room? Just off to the toilet/loo.

It depends on the region/ accent you use. Some regions take their language to specifics. It's most noticeable when you're talking with people whose primary language isn't English. Makes for fun conversations when you're visiting other places, or impromptu pictionary games.

I just tell people I'm taking a dump. They can usually figure out what I mean.

Man, that is even more leaving nothing to the imagination.

In answer to the OP, washroom makes me thing of... sinks. I don't think of either a bathroom or a laundry room. Just sinks.

Bathroom. Because apparently we decided language is useless and words mean nothing.

Bathroom. 'Cause the laundry is for laundering, and the washroom is for washing. People. Washing people, that is.
