I was wondering which franchise had the better universe building movie in your opinion, Iron Man or Man of Steel? And while we're at it, do you think Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is going to be a better bridge film than Iron Man 2? I use the term "bridge film" because Batman V Superman is supposed to bridge the gap between Man of Steel and Justice League, just like Iron Man 2 was supposed to be the bridge between Iron Man and The Avengers.

I don't remember seeing much universe building in either, but it's not a fair contest considering Marvel has had two phases to develop its universe into something unique in cinema and DC is just getting started.

The wording of the question is interesting since we haven't even seen the result of DC's 'world building' yet. However, without even seeing it I think we can safely assume Iron Man was better at it since a) it was a much, much better film, and b) it was in the back of Marvel's mind to use Iron Man as the kick off to a gradual world-building franchise whereas it feels like DC is just throwing things together to get a piece of the current superhero film trend. At the end of Iron Man I got a sense that he was just a part of this bigger Marvel universe but I did not get any such feeling in Man of Steel.

Both are equal as they both have large fan cults. Meaning one isn't better than the other. The only difference is this. One is getting more attention from Hollywood...but either way....they still have equal ground.
