Pumpkin's Character Tournament!

Okay so, as some of you know, characters are usually my favourite thing about a game! So I wanted to do a little funsies character tournament. Here's how it will work:

:cookie: Each game can have a minimum of TWO characters and a maxiumum of FOUR characters to represent it. Meaning if I only liked one character from a game, they won't make it in (sorry Melia :()

:cookie: These are obviously my personal favourite characters, so this list is highly subjective

:cookie: Series will work one of two ways: First is that 2-4 characters represent a series as a whole. Second is that I pick characters per game, BUT I cannot use a character towards more than one game. So for example, if I use Viktor for Suikoden I, I can't also use him for Suikoden II.

:cookie: I made up little character sheets for them with some general information. The bullet points are what I immediately think of when I think of that character, and also some tropes from TVTropes that make me think of them.

:cookie: Each round will be open for voting for 48 hours! If there is a tie or no vote, I will pick my favourite. So feel free to vote if you want to! You can just vote right in the thread. If you don't know the characters than you can look them up or go based on my small bits of information or even just vote by looks. Whatever floats your boat!

:cookie: The voting will go by game. If only 2 characters represent the game, they'll be against each other. If 3-4 characters do, I'll put their names in a hat and draw them out to get brackets. After each game is done, we will narrow it down by series, and then finally take all of the champions to see who reigns supreme in kitchen stadium!

:cookie: I still have some games to play which is why this will be going slowly. So just enjoy it, no stress, and hopefully we all have fun! If we run out of games before I finish my to play list, we'll just take a little break

:cookie: The brackets are posted below. Note that some will be added as I play a game. Note that the brackets are not in order of how they'll be done, that mostly depends on which order I get the character sheets done. So they'll be listed by series in alphabetical order and game by alphabetical or chronological order.

:cookie:A NOTE ABOUT THE ICONS! I really like images and wanted to add some. If you see a character's picture BEFORE the title of the game, it means they have won the series and will be in the finals. If you see their name after a game title, it means they have won that game, and not the whole series! Finalists are also listed below under the spoiler

I'm actually going to start tonight because I got a lot done today, so voting will be open for about 48ish hours after this~

We'll start with a well known game to kick this off, Final Fantasy VII!!

64316 VS 64317

Both are playable characters in Final Fantasy VII. Red XIII was experimented on by the evil Shinra (the antagonists) and is thought to be the last of his kind. He lives with an old man named Bugenhagen and thinks his father is a coward because he ran away when their village was under attack.

Tifa is a childhood friend of the protagonist, Cloud, and she now runs a bar called 7th heaven and helps with an eco-terrorist group called AVALANCHE. She learns more about Cloud as the story goes on and faces some of her own past in the process.

I'm gonna go with Tifa, but just BARELY. It's honestly a hard call, choosing between these two.

Tifa, game play wise, was fairly poor. She was very good at first (but that is not difficult given how little characters you have then). Many of her knuckle weapons dealt fairly average damage. While her final two weapons are very very good, with Godhand having 255% accuracy and Premium Heart dealing more damage the more her limit break filled.

In fact, keeping her limit bar filled is a decent idea, because her reels are fairly tricky to pull off successfully, and only get harder as you earn more reel slots.

Meanwhile Red XIII is well rounded with both physical and magical capability, and has the second highest dexterity. His ultimate weapon isn't hampered by having a full limit bar (meaning you can't actually attack normally). His limit breaks are split fairly evenly between buffing and damage.

I have to say Red XIII. Game-play wise, he is just superior to Tifa. I didn't use Tifa that often really in many of my playthroughs of the game. While Red XIII isn't the best character in the game, he is definitely up there. Plus his characterization is just fantastic.

Pumpkin said at the beginning that she likes characters as characters, and that's why these are her favorites, so I think a characterization/personality preference should win.

I'm merely basing this particular contest on my game-play experiences with Tifa and Red XIII. I mean, materia does equalize many things, but characters do have some subtle differences. By end-game when characters typically do 9999~ damage, characters with multiple hit limit breaks tend to fair better. That, and her ultimate weapon isn't that great.

I mean, you are right, ultimately there is not a terribly large difference whoever you use. But for my own personal vote, I am going to basing all of this on 'who would win in a fight'? I won't know like, half the characters. I can't really judge them on personality or characterization. I can at least attempt to judge them on their physical combat. Jesus, buddy, chill :p I was being tongue-in-cheek, if that wasn't obvious. I never said you were wrong in voting for Red - I just meant that I didn't get why you consider Tifa such a crutch character while I considered her useful throughout the whole game.

Vyse is a sky pirate who rescues Fina from the evil empire one day. She dresses strangely, she doesn't know what most of the local stuff is, and she has a strangle little floating creature named Cupil that follows her around. Vyse, being the guy he is, takes her under his wing and he and his childhood friend, Aika, treat her like a best friend. She's overjoyed by having such lovely friends and always does her best for the team. Vyse becomes captain and serves as an inspirational and positive leader for his crew.

In battle, Vyse uses duel blades and Fina uses Cupil, who will turn in to different weapons depending on how many of a certain item you find. Because of how the game works, characters can switch elements of their weapons whenever they want to, which leads to different skills being learned. Vyse defaults to more physically strong while Fina is more of a healer.

I've not even heard heard of this game series before. This will be fun. Vyse looks more deadly, but Fina can probably throw several bags of tricks given her sidekick can transform into weapons. That and she can heal though she is squishy. If Fina could make Cupil transform into a tank, that would be game over right then, but alas, I imagine that'd cause some crazy power imbalances.

Personality-wise, Vyse appears to be more likable and develop a positive attitude. Fina is sort of punted into 'damsel in distress' territory. A tough match, but I'll go with Vyse. There's no proof that Cupil could turn into a dragon or a tank, and therefore loses major points in that regard.

And I still love you Fynn. Nothing could change that! :manhug:

This took me a while. I like both character designs, and both descriptions, so I had to really think. Eventually I gave Fina the edge because Vyse holds one of his swords by the hand guard, almost as though it's a nightstick, which somewhat annoys me. Weapons have handles for a reason! It's not safe or effective to hold it that way!

It's both. It is a hand guard, so you can hold it like a normal sword. However one side of the hand guard is longer, and molded to fit into your hand. So you can also hold it with that section and treat the weapon like a tonfa.

It's an interesting idea. Not trying to sway your vote, just think it's an interesting design.

What we have here are two characters I thought I wouldn't like for different reasons who actually ended up being far and away my favourites.

Robo and Ayla come from two very different time periods. Robo is from the future after the bad things happen with Lavos. They find him in not working order and Lucca fixes him up. He doesn't have many memories and joins the party on their quest.

Ayla is from the very very distant past and is the Chief of her tribe of cave people, because she is the strongest. She's been leading them in a battle against the Reptities, which are advanced lizard people. The two are basically fighting over territory.

She just seems...stupid.

It seems like a harsh assessment, but that's the impression I get from her. There's a difference between ignorance and stupidity. I feel they pushed the idea of the "dumb caveman" way too far, and she feels stupid because of it.

I generally prefer more clever characters, and though she does get a moment or two, she's my least favorite member of the cast because of that.

Her personality is fantastic, though, and she does get some of the most broken skills in the game. And I do still like her. Just not as much as the others.

I'm gonna go with Robo. I haven't played Chrono Trigger past the first forest (Got lost, didn't know what to do/where to go), so I stopped there and haven't picked it up since. But, from what I've seen of CT, and my mastery of CC, I preferred Robo over Ayla, who seems to be a lot like Leah from CC. (And I'm fairly sure that Gaea's Navel is an island that was transported to the CC world from CT's distant past.)

I don't think many have played the game, so here's some general info. It is a time of war. Your main dude needs to get married and have a kid for reasons. Alice accompanies the main dude, and Routier is one of the potential brides.

Alice is the daughter of the commander in chief of the forces of light (the "good guys") and she's a high elf, which is kind of rare in this game. She's like top tier elf. And because of that, she can summon a demi-god like creature, shown here (http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/agarest/images/3/3f/Profile_Galios.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20110623130651). She was spoiled as a child, but that doesn't give her a feeling of entitlement or anything of the sort, and she joins your hero in order to do her best and aid in the war effort. She can heal as well as attack. She also takes care of the hero's son later on in the game and she is, believe it or not, 42. Oh video game magic!

Routier is incredibly shy and modest, and is actually terrified of the aforementioned demi-god monster, despite him being a generally alright guy. She travels with a man she considers her brother, because he adopted her after a traumatic event, who is part of a race of people who can see the future. Coincidentally, he cannot see the future very well like most of his kind, whereas she can. She apparently inherited it from her fortune telling mother. Oh video game magic! She's a great healer and has some offensive spells, and if she is the mother of your second generation hero, he will be blonde and have good magical proficiency while being physically weak.

Gameplay wise they are very similar although Routier leans slightly more towards healing while Alice leans slightly more towards offensive magic, although both can do both

Lloyd is the protagonist of our story and teenage boy (this is an RPG) who was raised by a dwarf after his mother passed away when he was very young. He doesn't pay much attention in class and isn't very book smart, but that's not so much lack of intelligence as a lack of a desire to learn. He's a skilled artisan though and proves to be quite smart when he wants to be and puts in the effort. He's also a firm believer in the Dwarven Vows which teach things like Never Abandon Someone in Need and a lot of others about friendship and being helpful.

Presea is a young girl and a lumberjack from a small village. Some bad spoilery stuff happened with her family and she had something happen to her that basically suppresses her emotions when you first meet her. She eventually gets back to normal, but she's always a more serious person and acts older than she seems to be. She's very blunt and lacks some social graces, but it's not malicious, she's more socially awkward than anything, which is understandable when you get to know her story more. Despite her awkwardness and emotional distance, she means well and cares deeply about her friends.

Most of you have played this game considering it is a Final Fantasy forum, but some general info:

Squall and Selphie are both mercenaries for a group known as SeeD. It serves as a school as well. Basically people hire SeeD to do things for them, militaristic type things in a lot of cases, and SeeD dispatches its teens and young adults to get the job done, because if you're over 30 in an RPG, you might as well be retired.

Selphie is a perky, upbeat transfer student who came from another SeeD Garden, and she takes over the Garden Festival Committe, which basically takes care of festivals and events in the Garden because these trained mercenaries are still pretty young. She really likes trains, she's generally pretty nice, but occasionally she'll say some really violent stuff and she can get a bit weird.

Squall is the dude with lost of talent and a bad attitude and he quickly moves up the ranks. The game revolves around him and the process of him learning to open up to people and stop being so closed off and cold to others. He starts off the game as a pretty big jerk but he opens up a lot and shows that he cares about his friends in his own way.

So 48 hours of voting!

Jun was in Tekken 2, and she was like the pure maiden type. Then she apparently had a baby with the guy who turns in to a devil and they named him Jin. They she was supposedly killed by Ogre before Tekken 3. They brought her back for the Tekken Tag games, where she's become more of the stoic type.

Ling Xiaoyu made her debut in Tekken 3 and has been in pretty much all Tekken games since. She has a crush on Jin, Jun's son. She also has a friend panda bear named... Panda, and she wants to build an amusement park.

Linca is a body guard and knows a lot about fighting. Sadly, that's mostly all she knows about. She means well and has a sweet heart, but she's very ignorant about the world around her. She has a friend named Marion who takes care of her and even chose her hair and outfits for her, and she orders Linca to try and make 100 friends, something Linca struggles with a good bit. She also takes her orders very seriously and very literally.

Wilbell is a magician girl who is very much in to get rich quick schemes. She doesn't believe in slow and steady or putting the work in for results later, she wants her plans to succeed right away and doesn't have the patience to wait for them. She's still young and is trying to impress her older relative and convince her she isn't a failure and can be good at wizarding.

Renya becomes God by winning the mall lottery, as one does, and Liliel is his personal guardian angel. She teaches him about his Godly duties and does her best to support him. She cares very deeply about him, she always works her hardest, and she supports you during a large chunk of the game in battle. She also develops feelings for Renya but is too shy to express them, especially considering she holds him in such high regard.

Renya is a teenage boy who works his hardest at being God, granter of wishes (not to be confused with a genie, apparently). Each chapter you have a certain wish to grant, and Renya cares very much about the believers he meets and always looks for a way to grant the wishes so that everyone ends up happy and benefiting. He's pretty clever and he usually speaks his mind and he stands up for what he believes in.

So 48 hours for these two brackets and still about 3ish hours if anyone wants to be out Tekken tie breaker~

Short(er) version:
The Guided Fate Paradox is an RPG, kind of a dungeon crawler RPG with a heavy strategy element, and it's quite difficult. You play Renya, a teenager who becomes God through the mall lottery. As God, his job is to grant people's wishes using the Fate Revolution Circuit, and if he decides to quit at any time, he will be devoured. Liliel was assigned as his personal Angel, and she accompanies you for the beginning levels (and later on as well if you wish). There are a few other angels as well and they each take turns selecting a wish for Renya to grant.

Each wish represents a chapter in the game with 10 chapters total. The wishes vary a good bit and you grant wishes for people like Cinderella, a failure zombie, and a mermaid, among others. Each chapter has a dungeon with 10 floors, and each floor brings another scene to show you how the wish is progressing. As the game goes on you learn more about what it means to be God, what's expected, and who invented the Fate Revolution Circuit and why. It starts off as silly and humourous, but gets more serious as the game goes on

Yuna is a summoner, meaning she will embark on a journey across the world, praying at all temples, receiving different aeons, until she confronts Sin and brings about the Calm. She is also the daughter of High Summoner Braska, who last defeated Sin. She's very kind, soft-spoken, and selfless.

Kimahri is one of Yuna's guardians. He doesn't talk much. He is a Ronso, but he is generally picked on by the others because of his small stature and broken horn. He cares very much about Yuna and does his best to always take care of her.

March is one of the two guardians of Agogo forest, along with her sister Salsa. Agogos are small, shy creatures, and the bad guy is searching for them in order to mix them with something called mineral powder to increase it's potency. March and Salsa both have the job of guarding them and keeping them safe.

Polka is a young girl who sells floral powder for a living. She's terminally ill, something which grants her magical powers, but people are worried she's contagious. Because of that, she's very ostracized even though she's a very sweet girl and only wants to help others and make friends. She joins the group in order to ask the royalty if they can tax the mineral powder product so she can sell floral powder more easily. Of course along the way they learn there's more to it than that.

Male Morgan is a character that happens if you choose a female character, get married, and have a baby! Morgan will then appear when the children start popping up. However, he doesn't seem to have much memory and doesn't appear to be from the same future as the other children.

Olivia is a shy dancer who loves her art. She joins the group to help out Chrom and co. by boosting moral with her dancing and such. She's a more supportive character, although you can make her a more physical class if you choose. She will also have a son named Inigo, who is a shy womanizer.

Miakis is a Queen's Knight. She is the Chiin Star, also known as the Hidden Star. Growing up she wanted to join the Dragon Cavalry, but was forbidden as women are not allowed to join. However, she was spotted and recommended as one of the Knights and due to her exceptional fighting skills and magic, she became the Princess' personal bodyguard. She has well rounded stats that make her good to customize in many different rolls.

Luserina is the Chikai Star, also known as the Star of Gatherina. She is the daughter of the Barows' household, and she's very kind and caring, unlike what is seen in the rest of her family. She's also implied to have a crush on the Prince. She stands up to her family when she disapproves of their immoral actions and decides to help the Prince and his army. She doesn't take part in fights but instead serves as a support character who will switch out your party members.

Julia works with her mother at the animal shop. She loves animals, and she's not a very good cook. Her favouritest gift is Superb Yogurt, and she likes a variety of easy to come by foods, such as eggs, and cheap products like chicken feed. She absolutely hates fish. You can get married to her if you play as a male

Pierre is a master chef with a range of emotional responses and facial expressions. His favouritest dish is the Finest Curry, and he enjoys all kinds of food dishes. He absolutely hates Poisonous Mushrooms. You canmarry him if you choose to play as a female.

Merurulince is the princess of Arls, but she really wants to be an alchemist. So she trains under Miss Totori (the protagonist of the previous game) and serves as this game's main heroine. In order to fulfill her dream of becomming an alchemist, she must prove to her father that alchemy can benefit the Kingdom, and she has 5 years to expand and develop Arls and increase it's population. She's very upbeat and cheery, although a little naive. She doesn't give up, she's pretty open about her feelings, and she works hard. She can synthesize things.

Keina is Meruru's childhood friend and maid. Keina works at the castle as a maid, although she will join you on your adventure so she can keep an eye on Meruru. She's very calm, sweet, and friendly, although a little shy. She also has excellent luck and brings good luck to those around her.

These are our two protagonists and playable characters. Max is from the present, he is an inventor, and he was chosen by the Red Atlamilia, a special stone. He lives with his well-to-do but hard on him father in a very nice house in the nice town of Palm Brinks. He's never explored the outside world and very much wants to. His mother is not there but he really misses her and talks to her picture a lot. By taking pictures, he can combine them as ideas to make items. In battle he uses wrenches/drills/hammers and guns of all varieties. He can also use a big robot thing he invented named Steve the Ridepod for taking out bigger enemies.

Monica is a Princess from the future. Her future is being attacked and destroyed and so she travels back in time and enlists the aid of Max in restoring the Origin Points of important places in the future. She was chosen by the Blue Atlamilia, a special stone that allows travel through time. She's very determined and strong and helps Max out when he's getting used to everything. In battle she uses swords and magic armbands. She can also transform in to monsters and talk to other monsters of the same types to get hints and clues about the game.

Kleito is of the Dragon Tribe, meaning she is actually a Dragon. But instead of appearing as a dragon, she appears as a girl obsessed with the colour pink. Nothing wrong with that. Since her form is actually not her real form, she can do nifty things like float over bad areas or float over giant holes, making her useful to traverse the battle map with. She's a very intelligent person, she helps make a lot of strategies, and she puts her all in when she needs to. In less serious times, she's very playful and mischievous and is always trying to steal followers from Tarte, the main heroine. She serves as a black mage of sorts in battle.

Daphnis is the bodyguard/attendant of a noble woman named Elissa, another party member. He dresses as a woman so he can follow Elissa anywhere without limitations. This leads to a hilarious scene of him being a man dressed as a woman dressed as a man. He's very sweet and he's quite smart and gets the job done well when he's asked to do something. He's very protective of Elissa. He's usually shy and reserved and modest, but has a playful teasing side as well. He serves as an archer in game and a very useful one at that.

I like Monica a good bit, but I like that they didn't have to make Max the strongest character option. Monica took that role, which left Max to be the gadget person, and to have him feel like the more adventure/exploration style character. Also, mech > monster mimic every time.

I like Daphnis. I've seen more Kleito characters than Daphnis characters, so that was one advantage. He was a little more fresh and new. Outside of that, a good strong archer is never a bad thing.

Okay this is a FF forum so I'm assuming most of you are familiar with these characters. They are sky pirates who run in to Vaan and try to steal the thing he is stealing, eventually get caught up in a whole thing with Princess Ashe, and Balthier takes a pretty central story role while Fran serves more as his backup. Also the camera focuses on Fran's butt. Like, a lot. And a lot of people find Balthier sexy. This is a sexy duo, is what I'm saying.

The Tensui Star, also known as the Star of Intelligence, Iku takes care of the Mantors, which are giant flying bug things used for riding, and she studied to become a nurse and acts as a nurse for the Mantors. he lives in Le Buque, a place that was conquered by a much more powerful place, and since then they have been considered and treated as third-class citizens and subhuman. Her boyfriend, Franz, is thought of as a suck-up and a sell-out because he has conformed to the ways of their conquerors in the hopes of becoming first class citizens. Iku is a peaceful person and she cares deeply about everyone, including Franz, even if they have conflicting ideas sometimes. She helps the party at one point in the story and is possible to recruit to the army, although she is missable and does not take part in battles.

Yumi is a warrior from Alma Kinan, a village entirely of women. She has the ability to speak with Spirits and is a very close friend of Yun, the shaman and important lady of the village. She helps the party at certain points and automatically joins in the war effort later in the game. She also serves as kind of the diplomat to the more hot headed friend of hers, and she's known to be very kind as well as popular with the gentelman. She's an archer with an Earth Rune, which is support magic mostly. She is the Tenyu Star, also known as the Guardian Star

Back to the Record of Agarest War series, this time the first game, we have

Lavinia is a character and potential bachelorette of the third generation. She is half dark-elf and half high-elf. But because racism and unfortunate luck, she was born looking like her mother the dark-elf and grew up being hated by her village, while her sister, much fairer in skin tone, is loved. Eventually her own father asks her to leave, which she does. She and her sister are close and happy to be reunited during the events of the game. She has a rather cold personality, which was built up as a defense mechanism.

Shefufanir is a character and potential bachelorette of the second generation (meaning if you marry her and your hero in gen 3 marries Lavinia, she will be Lavinia's mother in law!) Shefufanir is also of mixed race, with her father being an animal person and her mother human. Her mother was a holy woman but was outcast when falling in love with an animal person. Her mother died shortly after child birth and her father was killed in battle. She acts very confident and loves to tease people and try to provoke reactions, but under it all she hates fighting and she hates the war and wants to run away from it all.

And now for the second bracket is a game I just recently finished, it is Persona 3!

Koromaru is a dog and playable character, meaning he can fight shadows and stuff. He hangs out at the shrine where his owner was a monk but passed away. He is very loyal and goes to visit quite often and keeps guard over the place. He's very intelligent and can understand people's conversations very well.

Saori is a social link for the female main character but not playable. She lived overseas for a while and missed some school, so she's older than the other students who don't know how they should treat her as a result. She's very shy and won't stand up for herself, which leads to some unfortunate cases of bullying.

So 48 hours to vote and still some time left on the previous round. We do have a tie between Iku and Yumi if anyone hasn't voted yet and wants to~!

I just wanted to let you guys know the reason it's going so slowly is so I can finish up and play some games. Once we've gotten past the first rounds, meaning we have seen every character sheet for each character, I'll be doing probably about 5 brackets at a time (no character sheets or descriptions but I will link to the previously posted character sheets and descriptions). So sorry if it feels like it's taking forever and I hope you guys are having fun anyway!

Daisy is a maid who moved from the big city. She works at the Inn and the Innkeeper couple are like parents to her. She makes a lot of mistakes sometimes but she never lets it get her down and always keeps her chin up and a positive attitude. Her favourite colour is red and she loves strawberry pie and hates getting spotted pond frogs.

Sherry is the daughter of the mayor and everyone loves her because she's sweet, kind, and caring. She'll also open up a bazaar stand that sells seeds once you unlock it. Her favourite colour is yellow and she loves herb salad and hates curry.

Second bracket is from Suikoden II. I had a hard time narrowing it down to 4 characters and kept changing it but it is finally done!

Millie is a rather mysterious, yet friendly and upbeat girl. She joined the party after Riou, the hero, helps her find her eight-eyed groundhog monster. She's actually a very good sorceress with an affinity for the Blue Gate Rune, a summoning rune. She also fights with a giant boomerang. She is the Chiku Star, also known as the Empty Star.

Sierra is a vampire who received the power of the Moon Rune hundreds of years ago. I don't want to spoil her whole story, but eventually her Rune was stolen from here by Neclord, a vampire responsible for much of the first two games headaches. Eventually she joins the hero in order to stop Neclord and get back what is rightfully hers. Sierra is the Tenei Star, also known as the Heroic Star.

Note that only the first part of the story has been released, so their characters might change drastically (and indeed, one of them appeared to at the end of the first part). I'm going off of what has been told so far.

Rune is a mysterious girl met by our heroines (Selphine and Ritona) when they are teleported somewhere mysterious. She calls herself Rune and seems as friendly as can be, although she's obviously hiding a few things. Soon we learn that Rune also goes by Sara, and that there was a little girl named Rune in the town who was known as a devil spawn for all of the horrible things she'd done before she died. The story largely revolves around trying to find out why Rune/Sara would use the name of this little girl and exploring the evil deeds said girl committed.

Selphine is one of our main heroine's, she is a Princess in a time of war. When things begin to look grim, she and Ritona, her servant/guard/friend are teleported away and end up in a strange place, needing to find their way home. She's very caring and selfless and has a way with people. She's very trusting and kind. She also has powerful magic that she demonstrates on a few occasions.

Prier (sometimes spelled Priere) is a demon hunting nun with the ambitious dream of one day becoming the Maiden of Light. She's very brash and has a short temper, but deeply cares about those around her, especially her brother who she was stuck raising after they were orphaned. While not the most graceful or soft spoken, she is a hard worker and supportive of others.

Alouette is a woman with amnesia who arrived at the Church where Prier and her brother attend. Her powers were astounding so she quickly shot up the ranks and became their teacher. She's a devout follower of the Holy Book, sometimes at the expense of common sense, but she learns to outgrow this as time goes on. She's generally very sweet and kind but won't hesitate to discipline if necessary

Lionela is a traveling street performer with her two living "cat puppets". She has a mysterious past that you can learn about by triggering her scenes. Because of her traumatic past, she doesn't deal well with people and is very shy and skittish.

Sterkenberg (Sterk) is a knight who is very hard working and loyal to the king. He has an intimidating look, but is actually an overall nice guy who does what he thinks is best. He also helps the protagonist and gives her her tasks to complete.

Judith is a woman who enjoys fighting and does it well. She's very bold and decisive, and very confident in herself as well as flirtatious. During the story, she comes across as very blunt and she tends to go off on her own to get things done that she thinks need doing or wants done. She's secretive about her past and her goals.

Yuri is the main hero of the story. He became a knight with his BFF since they both wanted to devote their life to helping others. However, they soon learned they had different ideas about how to do so and Yuri leaves in order to be free to make the hard decisions he wouldn't be allowed within the knights, since some might be considered immoral or illegal. He's a good example of grey and grey morality, since he'll do things that might be considered bad if he thinks they'll lead to something good

Nera is from a noble family, and she's very kind and gracious. When she was younger, a witch told her father that she was at risk of being kidnapped, so he sent her to live at an Abbey for a while. She meets the protagonist when they're children and then later as adults, where her father offers him her hand in marriage. At first she's opposed to an arranged marriage, but falls for the hero and helps him on his journey. If you choose to marry Nera, they will have children. She also adventures with him, and is the best of the available brides at magic.

Saber is a young sabercat being bullied by some children. The hero and his friend (and possible future wife) Bianca, tell the kids to shove off. The kids say they'll only stop if the hero goes and fights the ghosts in the haunted castle place. He does and the kids leave Saber alone. Saber then becomes very loyal to the hero. They're separated later on, but find themselves reunited.

Konoha is a speed built character and her default Arcana is the Arcana of Nature. She's very silly, not the brightest, pretty goofy. But she's also loving, sweet, and loyal. She became the retainer of Kamui, a woman known as the Millennial Guardian, a very prestigious position. She's also a ninja dog.

Fiona is built for strength but incredibly slow and her default Arcana is the Arcana of Metal. She was kidnapped and brought in to the Elemental World, which stopped her from aging but also made it so she can't see her friends and family very much anymore. But she serves the woman who kidnapped her loyally and has tried to make a life for herself there.

Ah, I've two brackets again to look at.

Atelier Rorona: I love Sterk's outfit! Look at his clothes! I also find the intimidating yet friendly and helpful types quite interesting. Lionela has... cat puppets. Her backstory intrigues me but I'll vote for Sterkenberg.

Tales of Vesperia: I'll go for Judith based purely on her mysterious story. Yuri looks alright but "follows his own moral code" and "anti-hero" sounds suspiciously like "douche" to my ears.

Dragon Quest V: I actually recognize Nera/Flora from the poster of the game. She seems pretty swell, so I'll vote for her. Nothing against Sabercats, though.

Arcana Heart 3: How... how can Fiona even carry that sword!?! Very much a case of video game logic there. So it is either the maid with the massive sword or the cute ninja girl. Both sound pretty typical of the genre to me. I'll go for cute ninja girl #21, also known as Konoha.

There are some spoilers for this game if you intend to play it!

Mishera is the Elder of the village of the Wind. She is blind, but can read the wind and knows many many things because of this. She uses Wind magic, obviously. She's a very kind and wise woman and she's always willing to help others.

Cruxie was known as one of the strongest (if not the strongest) warriro in the Fire Village, until she caught the fatal Iksan Fever. She's supposed to stay bedridden but often does what she wants anyways. Eventually she joins the party and serves as a heavy hitter style of character.

I can't say the whole story for both of these because I haven't played all of the games and I only remember so much! Sophitia is like the holy, virtuous woman. She's kind, selfless, faithful, strong-willed, hard working. She uses a sword and shield as her weapons and is a pretty powerful character. She makes a lot of sacrifices for her family and would do anything for them.

Surng Mi-Na is the more rambunctious one. She can be overconfident, she has a quick wit, and she is very headstrong and determined. She doesn't like being talked down to at all and wants to be taken seriously. She is a pretty quick character and has good reach, using a Naginata as a weapon.

Ys Seven: Interesting characters both of them. We have the blind woman, or the terminally ill woman. I really like the fire and determination from Cruxie's bio, so I'll go for Cruxie.

Soul Calibur: Isn't this series known for the scantily clad characters it possesses? In this world, is fabric and cloth like a scarily rare commodity? Clothing issues aside, I'll go with Sophitia. I know she sounds boring, but who doesn't like a kind, virtuous, family-orientated character? Almost all of my Sims 3 characters turn out that way :p

The fanservice thing bothers me too, honestly. ESPECIALLY when I like a character because then I feel like they could be getting positive attention from their awesome development or writing instead of boobs (looking at you Agarest series :argh:)

Well like I said the series has gotten worse over time (https://vgresearcher.files.wordpress.com/2009/11/boob-evolution.jpg). sadly. Not that it was totally innocent of it in the first place, but it has gotten more exaggerated

Like I'm playing Dead or Alive 5 now and I turned off the jiggle and the clothes tearing and the game is actually a super fun fighting game. And I can just choose the less revealing outfits for most (although they don't all have that option). But sometimes the games will just throw in outfits that make me just :facepalm:

Tekken has gotten worse about it too :/

Natalia is the Princess of the Kingdom your hero is from, and has been engaged to him since childhood as kind of an arranged marriage type of deal. At the start she acts a bit spoiled and very bossy, but she isn't afraid to get her hands dirty when they need her and will jump right in to help those in need. Her love story later in the game is kind of messed up, but it's one of my favourites because it's kind of unconventional and I think it's sweet. She also learns more about her family and has some things to work through there as well.

Jade is a colonel in the army for the sort of enemy Kingdom to the main hero. He's a legendary fonic artes user (the magic in this game) and is very well respected. He's also pretty much a genius, very sarcastic, sometimes a bit lazy. As the game progresses you learn more about who he is and how he became that way. As I mentioned in the character sheet, it's not just interesting from a well-told story standpoint but it also gives you a type of character you don't often get.

Reimi serves as the second-in-command aboard the spaceship of newbs traveling the galaxy. She's from a prestigious family and she's very smart, well-read, good at martial arts, and a master of archery. She's kind to others and she does her job as best as she can, including when she needs to take command, even though it doesn't seem like she'd be the best at leading because of her more demure personality. We get to learn more about some trauma later in the game and how she's dealt with that.

Faize is an alien that meets and helps the main party. His race is technologically advanced, and he becomes a useful ally on the journey. He's very kind and polite and his intentions are usually good. He does care about his friends and he works with them well and always give things his best. Later in the story, the stress starts building up for him after he loses some of the things most important to him. Then some spoilery stuff happens.
