The one that knows your deepest fears and comes at you with them. IT knows.

Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain. Doctor says, "Treatment is simple. Great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up." Man bursts into tears. Says, "But doctor...I am Pagliacci.”

Wrong, all WRONG.

A giant poll of scary clowns and the best one of all isn't there? Literal Fear Incarnate?

Never got the whole clown fear thing. Even when I was a kid and was hypersensitive to scary stuff I thought the movie It was very droll and boring. Don't get me wrong, I like Tim Curry and all, but the movie was just very silly to me. Killer Clowns From Outer Space did scare me as a kid, but that's because I was VERY young and it was mainly because something looked scary rather than something being a clown. Saw it again many years later and the film is hilarious.

Yeah I've never really found clowns scary. Even the murderous ones I'm much more scared of the murderous part than the clown part. His profession and style of dress is irrelevant at that point.

I watched Doctor Who from a very young age, and THIS clown from the Seventh Doctor episode 'The Greatest Show in the Galaxy' really creeped me out.

Not only was he creepy on his own, he also had a group of soulless android clown minions to do his bidding. Plus, if I remember correctly, a kite which could track you down and kill you.

Pennywise the clown fucked me up from a young age.

The part where the kids are looking through the old book and it turns into a black and white video. You see him come cartwheeling into view. Then he suddenly stops, looks up at the camera, points at it (at you!) and makes this horrible, horrible growl. Then he comes running, climbs up the lamp post and his FREAKY SMURFING FACE IS RIGHT THERE!!

I didn't sleep for a long time after seeing that...

First of all, how dare you suggest Puddles the Sad Clown is scary or bad or evil. He is just sad and AMAZING.

Puddles isn't scary, to me. But since he's a thing these days I felt I should have him on the list.

I'm kinda surprised there aren't many Coulrophobes here.

I definitely agree that clowns are, on some level, MEANT to be disturbing.

They're meant to provoke you out of normal ways of thinking, to see the world in a different light.

In a clown, you see the strangeness of the world reflected, which can be funny or frightening.
