Well, I'm talking about the original game, anyway. Something I always found odd is that Shinra never made a huge effort to seem like a nice company that cares about the people of Midgar. I think the plat falling incident should have played a much bigger role in the story. At first, fine, AVALANCHE takes the fall for it, but as the story goes on it becomes more and more clear to the rest of the world that Shinra is full of it. It would have been cool if you could have played a part in getting the truth out to the general public over the course of the game [Sector 7 was an inside job joke here]. The better you do the more Midgar itself and maybe a few other handful of groups across the world help the party riot and storm Midgar near the end of the game. It would be this cool "everyone comes together besides player characters" moment that FF games sometimes do!
