Did you feel this game fared better with basic characters with a blank slate in the original, or did you feel that the personalities and backstory to the characters in the remakes suited the game better?

I'm more of a dude who was brought up on old school stuff, so I lean towards the blank slate characters, but I did like what Square did concerning the remake personalities. I named the sullen blond one Cloud!

The new ones didn't really have a great deal of personality anyway but I prefer them.

My first experience with FF III was the remake so I'm a little biased towards Personality Knights. Actually, I've played this game about 3 times, and not one of them was the NES version. Maybe one day...

Although the characters weren't that well developed, it was enough to enhance the charm of the game even further.

I played the DS version first but I honestly found the original Famicom version was better. I prefer the blank slates, even though said blank slates actually talk quite a bit in the original version as well.

Onion please, the DS remake disgusted me so much I didn't even finish half of it.

Wasn't aware they were given personalities. That actually makes me interested in trying the remakes

They were given personalities in the sense that 1 is more than 0. Don't get your hopes up. ;)
