Hey everyone, just wounding what are your favorite strategy games? Mine are the Romance of the Three Kingdoms games. Currently playing XI right now!

Oh boy. Oohhh boy. Let's see where do I begin?

RTS:
Starcraft: Brood War
Warcraft II/III (and the expansions)
Command & Conquer Red Alert II
Age of Empires II

TBS/4X:
Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri
Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword
Civ II and variants (FreeCiv et al)
Master of Orion II
Space Empires IV
Endless Space
(I have SEVERAL games in this genre on my to-play list. Probably Endless Legend most of all.)

Grand Strategy:
Darkest Hour/Kaiserreich
Victoria II
Crusader Kings II
Europa Universalis III and IV

TBT:
X-Com UFO Defense
XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Battle for Wesnoth

Other assorted strategy/tactics:
Rome: Total War
Medieval: Total War

I keep feeling like I forgot something buuuuut I can't think of anything at the moment so I might come back to this.

Oh man RotK XI is so good I was really into it a few months ago. Until Sun Ce destroyed the glorious Kingdom of Ma Teng :( I wish they'd give us XII in Englishland but I think that ship has sailed. I like the ones where you just control one guy and go do your own thing, as well as the ones like XI where you control the whole kingdom.

I love pretty much everything on Pike's list, especially Darkest Hour. Add Endless Legend, and I like Space Empires V more than IV personally. If only it would run on modern OSes.

Eador: Genesis
Battle Brothers
Jagged Alliance 2
King of Dragon Pass. It's probably more strategy than anything else. It's really a game that fell into our dimension from a completely different one where games are completely alien and different to ours, but whatever the hell it is strategy is definitely a big element.
Imperialism
Star Ruler (Haven't spent enough time with 2 yet to comment)
Populous: The Beginning
Silent Storm 2

Also I don't know to what extent one would count city builders in the genre, because they kind of run the gamut from old-school RTS that happens to permit pretty city planning, like Age of Empires, to affairs where the building is prime and combat secondary (Pharaoh, Zeus, etc.) to ones where the city is the only real thing going on (Banished, Tropico) to a pure city-builder (SimCity 4, Cities: Skylines), but where to draw the lines between strategy and management is not easy. How do you even classify Patrician III for example? It's got combat. It's got city building. It's got trading for profit. It's got bribing magistrates for votes. Anyway, draw whatever conclusions you wish, but all the games in this paragraph are great whatever their genre, in my opinion.

This has always been one of my favorite genres so yeah, plenty to list here!

Tears to Tiara II

This is a controversial opinion around these parts but I always considered games like FFT to be a variant of RPG rather than a variant of strategy game. However if we're going to include them then I'd add FFTA and FFTA 2 to my list (I didn't like the original FFT very much.)

I don't like the more traditional strategy games but I do love strategy RPGs like Final Fantasy Tactics, Tactics Ogre, and Fire Emblem. Also Valkyria Chronicles. I've enjoyed all the games in these series.

I've also just started Front Mission 3 and it has more of the grid-based tactical combat I love!

Favorites:

SRPG - Tactics Ogre
RTS - C&C Generals
4X - Civ IV
Grand Strategy - Crusader Kings II (only one I played)
RTT - Dawn of War II

And if you wanna consider games that play like strategy/action hybrids like X-Com its own catgeory my favorite would be Valkyria Chronicles.

If you count SRPGs, I also play Disgaea and fire emblem. I guess X-com counts too, I recently started playing those.

Oh yes, Fire Emblem: Awakening as well!

I'm inclined to consider SRPGs/TBTs kind of their own thing that isn't quite what is usually meant by "Strategy" as a genre, but if we are including it then there are some definite all-time classics there;

X-Com: UFO Defense
XCOM: Enemy Unknown/Enemy Within
Xenonauts
Vandal Hearts 1 & 2
Front Mission 3 (It's sooo good Del you're in for a treat it only gets better)
Basically all Nippon Ichi games

Huh I guess I already said Jagged Alliance 2 and SS2. Welp, guess my considerations aren't all that rigorous anyway :p
