Welcome, one and all, to the Pokemon Tournament that has now officially begun! Starting today, all contestants will be receiving their Pokemon Eggs that they will use in the upcoming battles!

Here's the rules!
1. Catch six junk Pokemon so that you have something I can trade you the eggs for.
2. Mognet me when you're ready to trade.
3. Once we've traded - you're ready to go! Go and hatch those little babies and do your best to raise them!
4. Make sure to post what Pokemon you got here! Also, remember that no trading is allowed between contestants or anyone outside the contest!
5. The two-week countdown to the battle stage will begin once all contestants receive their eggs. I will update this post with the date once it's confirmed.
6. We have enough eggs to accomodate four more contestants, so some last-minute signups will be acceptable, as long as you sign up before all the other contestants get their Pokemon.

AFAIK, Skyblade made sure that we only get Pokemon that don't require a trade to evolve, so that shouldn't be a problem.

We considered this issue early on, and decided that it would be better to exclude that possibility. So there are no trade-evolution Pokemon in the egg roster.

Oh my. Bidoof?! Good luck with that. Also-ran Pokemon if ever I saw one. At most, you can make Bibarel into a vague HP Tank. That's the fancy term for 'meat shield'. Buneary sort of falls into the same 'meh' category.

Zorua is good once evolved and Magikarp will be very respectable when it evolves into Gyarados. It's X4 weakness to electric will cripple it very easily though.

EDIT: Just googled what Audino does. It's... okay? It has decent defense and Sp. Defense stats, and learns some good supporting moves. I'd use it as a poor man's Blissey. Still not a clue as to how to improve Sunkurn though. Evolve it with the Leaf Stone as soon as you can, really. It's highest stat is the Sp. Attack so work with that. If you can give it any type variety, that would be good as it naturally learns only grass type moves. Most Grass types can learn Poison moves, so that is a start.

Shai has the better of the two groups here, I think. Larvitar can grow into a monster, Togepi is very usable, Axew evolves into Haxorus... there's actually not a single pokemon there that I could say is 'bad'.

Well, those are just the best suited ones for the nature. If you want Leafeon, just go and level near a moss stone and you'll be done with it.

Evolve your Eevee however you want, tbh.

I would try and level up your Eevee last, if anything. Because Eevee is so versatile with the various evolutions it can produce, it can slot into any team that might be missing a key element. Vaporeon boasts high HP and a relatively high Sp. Attack, while Jolteon has very high speed. Flareon has high attack but possesses fewer STAB physical moves to capitalize on that stat (it learns many Special moves, annoyingly enough).

Espeon shares the theme of high Sp. Attack and is very versatile with many powerful Special moves to be learned. Umbreon's two highest stats are Sp. Defense and Defense and is very much a defensive, pestering pokemon. Leafeon effectively does Leafeon's role but better, with a high attack stat and with a diverse move-pool. Glaceon possesses both a high Sp. Attack and Defense. Sylveon has High Sp. Attack and Sp. Defense, and because practically all fairy moves are special, this helps it.

I've probably gone too into that. But basically, have the Eeveelution work to its nature, but if you are seriously lacking in a team role, don't be afraid to go astray from that.

I hope you guys don't mind me armchair analyzing your teams!

Snorunt evolves into either Froslass or Glalie. Glalie's base stats are 80 across the board, making it ridiculously balanced. It has a mix of physical and special moves. Froslass is also balanced and has a higher speed base stat and tends to learn more specials.

Having both Fennekin and Vulpix on your team is probably a hindrance as they are both typically special Fire-types. Try to make them as different as possible without stunting their natural growth. Ninetales doesn't have much difference between the attack and Sp. attack stats, so there is an option there. Can't do much against the typing. If you face someone with a water, or rock, or ground pokemon, both of them are in trouble and these are common offensive types.

Aron (Aggron) has a ginormous defense stat and a respectable attack to boot. It can easily become an offensive wall. It is X4 weak to Fighting and Ground though, which is a major chink in the armor. And its Sp. Defense is nothing to write home about either. Shroomish evolves into Breloom and is a perfectly serviceable physical sweeper. It has an unusual typing which can throw off some people, and it can learn many elemental punches giving it some variety. Overall, Breloom can be one to watch, even if it is not an obvious choice.

Finally Beldum evolves into Metagross which has a very healthy base stat total, focusing on Attack and Defense, though the other stats aren't very low by any means (though it may be quite slow). Metagross is very powerful and you cannot really go wrong developing it.

I always give them like normal names based on the first letter of their name. So for Squirtle it would be like Sam and Charmander would be Charles and Bulbasaur would be Brian or something. But a Sam I could have a drink with"

I don't know who half these Pokemon are. Back in my day we had 150 Pokemon before Mew hacked his way onto the scene and then we had 151, then we got some more Pokemon and refined video game staples that brought the total to 200+ and that was all fine and dandy, but then the rival started being nice and respectful to you and it all went downhill from there.

I just don't wanna risk putting EVs into stats I don't need. If I accidently KO something that yields 2HP with Chroma, for example, who doesn't need the HP EVs in the grand scheme of things, that's two less EVs that I can put in what matters.

By the way, anyone know where the Modern-pattern Vivillon comes from?

EVs are the base stats that you can increase for a Pokemon, basically. If you want to max out, you have enough EV points to max out two stats, so it's advise to put EVs into the Pokemon's most important stats. You can raise the EVs of a Pokemon easily through super training on your bottom screen!

btw do you already have a 'battle system' for the game?

the one i used with my tournament was pretty easy :3

first you write in excell down every possible match (its not as hard as it sounds, really :P )
every win is 2 points, every lose is 1 point, match not played is 0 points.

you set a time limit (1 or 2 weeks) and you give away what matches have to be played. a couple of ppl might have to battle 2x in order to let everyone play atleast 1x.
and the contestants will have to PM eachother to set a time and date.
after the time limit is done new matches will be anounced.
you can always anounce them earlyer if every match has been played to speed things up :)


p.s so far the teams look very tough :P im excited to see where this will lead too

I don't remember the exact gain increase, but unless you max it, it's nowhere near as big as the gain from "Lucky Egg" and "Exp O-Power level 3". So I'd recommend finding a Lucky Egg and using the O-Power instead.

They do all add up, but if you train against the E4 rematches for example, I'd say the amie exp bonus might still not be worth the time. Then again, if you don't have the Exp O-Power at level 3 yet, it might be worth it however.

Also: Pellipers often carry Lucky Eggs, so that's an easy way to get several Lucky Eggs.



Edit: also, will held items (aside from mega stones) be allowed or not? My EV spreads are going to depends on that. :p

Sixth of June, Two-Thousand and FifteenI encountered a most peculiar event this morning on my pre-breakfast walk. There was a man, donning the robes of a wizard no less, in the heart of EoFF Square, spouting off some fantastic tales of a tournament and random "Pokemon eggs" or some such thing. He had a most peculiar list with him and was taking down what he called 'friend codes' from entrants along with their names -- not that any of them were giving their REAL names to him. I'm sure he knew that as well, which means he was expecting those numbers to somehow bind the people. Hmph. Poor fellow is quite mad.

All the same, I figured I'd humor him, so I gave him my name, and when he asked for my number I thought for a bit and gave him the numbers that came into my head. He seemed quite satisfied with this when I finished, which I do admit was rather surprising as it would mean I somehow guessed the appropriate number of digits, but then again, the man hopes to track me down later by mere number, which is crazy enough as it is.

I think the 'wizard' outfit is going to his head.




Twentieth of June, Two-thousand and Fifteen
Imagine my surprise when I found that 'Fynn' fellow back in EoFF square this morning! He was going on about his 'tournament' again and, get this, he wants the contestants to provide SIX 'junk' sacrifices for his eggs! What madness! I attempted to detour around the man, but despite being largely certain I look a left onto General Gaming Discussion road, I almost walked face first into the chap. He didn't seem the least bit surprised though, and greeted me fairly warmly from under that hood, merely asking me to send a letter through the Mognet system when I had the sacrifices prepared. Strange business that, arranging for bizarre blood price rituals via post. He even gave me his 'friend code', not that I have any idea what to do with the thing.

Bah, what am I even talking about. This magic mumbo-jumbo is just silliness. I'll continue to humor him, but just for my amusement at this point. Perhaps I'll just go catch him some salamanders and find a rock or something behind the house -- let's see how he reacts to THOSE for sacrifices!




Twentieth of June, Two-Thousand and Fifteen (Second Entry)
He's done it! I don't know HOW he's done it, but, by God, HE'S DONE IT! At the very moment I am writing this I have the six eggs, utterly vile things they are, sitting not five feet from me. Each is a thick and leathery oval roughly the size of a man's head, with blotches of dark green taint spattered upon them haphazardly. They carry with them a disgusting musty odor that fills the room, and as I write now, I do so through choking breaths and tears.

I swear those eggs move from time to time when I'm not looking at them.

Anyway, perhaps I should start at the beginning. I returned to my home on Member List street not long after my encounter with the wizard (which I am quite sure now that he is), picking up the 'sacrificial' items along the way. It was then that I noticed the old magnets on my refrigerator and decided to humor myself by writing out his number in those magnets. I laughed to myself a bit and jested aloud that my part of the task was complete. Imagine my surprise -- nay, horror -- when I was met by a loud and clear greeting from nowhere! I spun around looking for someone -- anyone -- only to turn back in time to see that blasted wizard emerging from the refrigerator! I stood stupefied for a moment as I stood there facing him, then, not knowing what else to do, I thrust the 'sacrifices' towards him. He happily took them from me, and then, six magical dice rolls later, handed me the six terrible eggs I have previously described. The process was a blur, nigh instantaneous, and when I looked up from the eggs to where he had been I was alone in the room, the refrigerator door slightly ajar. The price had been paid.

And so I sit here with these eggs, unsure whether the creatures inside are perverse mutations of the sacrifices I delivered to him or some other unwholesome outsiders entirely, but as I stare at them now I am gripped by a fear such as I have never known. These eggs are truly horrible.

And they are moving.



June Twenty-First, Two-Thousand and Fifteen
The creatures have hatched, and they are more terrible than I had ever imagined. I know not how much time I have left, nor what horror they will wreak upon the unsuspecting land of EoFF, but I know I am powerless to stop them. I cannot contain them much longer; I can only document them now, with the hope that someone else will stumble upon these notes later; that someone with more strength than I will be able to put an end to the vileness I have, in my infinite ignorance, brought forth upon the world.

The first to hatch was a beast unlike any I could have expected, with two monstrous fangs and a tail it keeps raised like a scorpions, poised for a deadly strike. Its flesh is a sickening pinkish color, and since birth its tiny pupils have been locked onto me, unblinking, unflinching. I must always keep an eye on this one.

The second I suspect is highly toxic from its bright yellow and blue coloring and what appears to be stinger. It does not appear to have a mouth, but instead has two deadly spikes protruding down from where a mouth should be -- it is likely these are actually mosquito-like proboscis. This parallel is further reinforced by the presence of its massive wings, which will likely carry the beast from victim to victim after it breaks free from this old room.

The third is the most deceptive of the bunch, appearing to be some form of plantlife native to the planet. However, its nigh flawless disguise is ruined somewhat by the large accumulation of jagged ice atop its body -- likely a potent offensive weapon. The room also appears to have accumulated a layer of snow since it burst forth from its egg.

The fourth is a disgusting creature that almost appears to have attempted to imitate the shape of man, though it seems the attempt was aborted prior to completion. Though it still roughly managed the proper shape of a human, instead of hair its skull has formed into an impenetrable green helmet with two deadly red horns atop it, and the creature appears able to manipulate object without touching them. It will likely attempt mass mind control on the unsuspecting population.

The fifth ate my table. It appears to be a bipedal insect of some kind, with massive legs and deadly, studded horns jutting out of its head. It has rows of razor sharp teeth, and appears to be armored, though, to our great fortune, its clawed hands are relatively small. It is unlikely conventional firearms will have any effect on the beast, and help us all if it ever grows wings.

The final beast is the hardest to decipher, as it may be a killer, parasitic plant, or a turtle carrying potentially hostile flora upon it. It bears no visible fangs or teeth, however it does have a clearly visible mouth, and likely a steel sheering bite along with it. Fortunately, the animal appears to have a severe case of jaundice, which can hopefully be exploited in efforts to combat it before it gets too large.

Some people raise Pokémon as pets. Others battle with them to strengthen their bonds of friendship. Myself, I study tons and tons of useless trivia about them!

Welcome to Professor Skyblade's Trainer Tips!

Here we go over the basics of raising a Pokémon for rookie trainers.

The first step of training is to build your team. Fortunately, you guys all already have your Pokémon, so we can skip this step (which is by far the longest and most tedious step of training).


Let's take a moment to talk about EVs. EVs, or Effort Values, are one of the primary ways to customize your Pokémon. Each battle your Pokémon participates in awards it EVs, based on which foe is defeated. Generally, Pokémon grant EVs that relate to their own strengths. For example, if you defeat a fast Pokémon, like a Raichu, you are awarded EVs in Speed.

A Pokémon can have a total of 510 EVs total. A maximum of 252 can be awarded to any individual stat. For every 4 EVs in a stat, a Pokémon will gain 1 additional point in that stat at level 100. So, with a 252 maximum per stat, this means that you can acquire, at most, 63 additional points in any single stat.

The most basic stat spread for a Pokémon is 252 EVs in two individual stats, with the remaining 6 put in an extra stat. For a Pokémon that focuses on attacking, for example, 252 in an Attack stat, 252 in Speed, and a remaining 6 in HP or Defense is not unusual.

So, how to get these EVs reliably?

One way is Super Training. The points that you get in Super Training are EVs, and it is a way to get exactly the EVs you want. Unfortunately, it can be very tedious, and not everyone enjoys or is good at Super Training.

Horde Battles are another fantastic way to do this. Since you get EVs for each Pokémon you defeat, fighting five Pokémon at once is a great way to get a lot of EVs. Sweet Scent and Honey both allow you to encounter Hordes regularly. Then, it's just a matter of knowing which Hordes you should try to encounter. So, after EVs, what else is there to focus on? Simple. Moves!

Moveset is incredibly important. When training your Pokémon, don't just focus on what it needs to cover, but look at how it covers your team. If you notice that several Pokémon on your team are weak to one particular type, try to get a move that counters that type, even if it's not a move you would normally put on that Pokémon. Balance is important. Consider what your team is weak to, and what you can do to check those weaknesses, even if you can't eliminate them.

Don't forget as well that ORAS games have Move Tutors, TMs are always valuable, and there are plenty of moves to be acquired through level ups.

It's not that bad. Water is a pretty solid typing. Plus, you have your weaknesses covered. Gastrodon destroys Electric Types with the immunity and Earthquake (just watch out for Grass type moves against it, its only weakness), and Grass types are destroyed by Flying and Bug, so Heracross, Pidgeot, and Noivern can go to town on them.

You get the Macho Brace by defeating the family in the house north of Mauville City. Though, if you have made it to the Battle Resort, won some and have the BP to spare, getting the "weight items" is even better, as they add a 4 EV bonus to every pokemon you beat.

As for pokérus, I can trade you an infected pokemon if you want to. I thiiiiiink I got your FC already...?

As long as you have an infected pokemon in your party, it will have a chance to spread to the pokemons next to it in your party after every battle.

Just be careful: you want to box your Pokerus spreader once you're done spreading pokerus to the other mons in your party, because any pokemon left in your party past midnight will stop infecting other pokemons. It will still gain the pokerus EV bonuses, but the pokerus won't spread.

Correct. Essentially, you could box it for a minute, then pull it back out as soon as the clock ticks over, and it will still be able to infect others.

However, I feel it's worth mentioning that it doesn't actually end at midnight. Every Pokémon with Pokérus has its own "infected" timer, which counts down the number of days it can have it. It's randomized when they get it, and can be up to four days. That's four midnights it can survive outside the computer before it can't infect others anymore.

But, there's no way to check that ahead of time, so it is better to be careful and act as though it will always end every night.

My favorite place is Restaurant Le Wow. Slap on Exp. Power 3, and go into battle.

The Elite Four are always an option, but I feel like you don't get as much out of them, especially since you have to keep re-applying Exp. Power 3 each battle, and they don't have Level boosts when you rematch them.

If you are on the main Super Training page with no bag up, there is a chance that your Pokemon will find a new bag every time it hits the empty bag. These bags are random, but you are far more likely to get "Utility" bags like the Friend Bag, Flare Bag, and Reset Bag this way than you are through completing courses. The Reset Bag is REALLY rare from courses. So just open up on an empty bag, tap the touch screen a ton, and dump whichever ones you don't like when you fill up.

Air Slash if you want to be hated like Bern.
Or you could use something like Air Slash,
Fire Blast, Roost and then either Nasty Plot,

One stat down, 5 more to go. I don't think I'll need pokerus. The horde training is the way to go, especially if you have a lot of pokemon to learn that stat. With exp share on I can train 4 at a time (need a spot for the sweeper and a Combee). I just pass the Macho Brace between pokemon to distribute it evenly.

Gained a few levels doing this too so it's killing two birds.

So it turns out I had a pokerus pokemon just sitting in a box. I have no idea how I got that. Things are progressing well.

I need a few TMs but most of them I just need to go find. I do need two from the Battle Maison but I think I can just run through a few battles to get the BP for it.

I also noticed that a couple of my pokemon have moves they only could have learned from breeding. Not sure if that was on purpose or not, but it's pretty cool! A couple of them I might keep on there. :)

Yes and no. These eggs all were bred from Pokémon I had prepared to be competitively viable. Due to the way the 6th Gen Pokémon games handle Egg Moves (unlike previous games, Gen 6 actually remembers which moves your Pokémon has when it hatches, so that you can ALWAYS relearn those moves), I put my four favorite Egg Moves on each Pokémon when I'm actually working on breeding up a new competitive team member. However, most of those moves aren't actually viable, so I only keep the ones which I feel actually benefit the Pokémon.

So if your Pokémon has an Egg Move on it, it's a move that I kept for my competitive set with that Pokémon. Also, yeah, there are going to be a lot of perfect IVs there. But which ones are all random, as I wasn't actually breeding these eggs for top-tier competitive play, but just for fun.
