I am making a thread for those of us who are in thrall (lol) to Blizzard and still play this damn game. This thread is focused on current stuff that is happening in game so it's not really meant for people who played for like one day back in 2005 and want to show up and gloat about how they don't like MMOs or whatever. Make your own thread :colbert:

~~PATCH 6.2: BOATS~~

I am really excited about BOATS, the shipyard is the coolest thing I've seen in forever. Basically I already like this patch a lot and I don't even care. I'm so excited, I'm just REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THIS GAME AGAIN.

I like boats! They're the neatest part of this expansion.

I did not like the Timeless Isle much at all, and since Tanaan is pretty much the same type of place, I do not like it as well. I like it less. At least with Timeless Isle it was easy to get where you're going. With all the narrow pathways to find, nature thingies blocking the way, and just in general crap lying on the ground that will trip your character up it's more frustrating than fun. Wow needs to stop this trend of mapmaking they started with Isle of Thunder.

I raid tonight so we'll see how that goes.

I raided last night. We attempted the first three bosses but a bunch were leaving so we died on High Council but we only tried each one once. A lot is going on in that fight. We could have done it if we attempted again but a lot of people left so we just went to BRF on heroic cause it got a 20% nerf and killed bosses there that some haven't done on heroic. 'Cept I ran into the train once on thogar and died and lost my pepe for my pepe achievement :(

The first two bosses of HC are freaking easy. We finished it and was like "was that it? That was all?" I want to try Krom'ak or whatver because he jumps in pools and splashes. That one seems fun. But so far, our guild hasn't had much trouble in HC, our raid nights are tues, wed, and thurs so i'm sure we'll do more tonight and tomorrow.

I did the intro quest for the boats so I have the shipyard but then it was raid time so they just portaled me there. I haven't actually done anything in Tanaan yet.

I did watch the ending cinematic already. Khadgar doesn't look as cool as a cucumber and flies off as a crow with an ominous "I fear this isn't the last we'll see of them." or whatever about the legion. I don't know if this means we'll see them again in a 6.3 or if this means we'll see them in the next xpac. I'm on the fence if this expansions story is over or not. They wrap it up with 6.2 it seems. Don't be surprised if at blizzcon they announce the next one with a cinematic.

Set it to normal and saw the first six tonight raiding. They don't really seem so bad. Not sure if we're finishing normal tomorrow or just jumping into heroic.

Wait, so what is the utility of a boat when you have a flying mount?

It's been so long, I really wish I still had time to make WoW a part of my life.

theundeadhero
06-25-2015, 07:45 AM
It's basically a mini-game where you collect different boats with different abilities and send them on missions for rewards.

VeloZer0
06-25-2015, 02:55 PM
Obviously the next step must be to make it so you can man your boat by a crew made up of your pets, with each combination affecting it differently. :D

Pike
06-25-2015, 05:25 PM
I love the stupid boats minigame. I love it. Except for all those missions that take like 24 hours, 48 hours or whatever. Ain't nobody got time for that.

I know this is a super unpopular opinion but I love garrisons. They're neat and they've made it easy to roll in a pile of gold (which I can then funnel into WoW Tokens for gametime lol)

I was disappointed with Timewalking dungeons this weekend. I expected so much more out of them. I guess I just wanted them to feel more like dungeons did back in BC. Instead, it was easy mode running through them as fast as you can.

I'm honestly somewhat fighting the temptation to cancel my subscription that's been running since 2006. Even though Cata changes were dramatic I still thought the game was fun and enjoyed it. MoPs wasn't as much fun but I still found enjoyment in generally playing the game and raiding. Now, not so much.

Pike
06-28-2015, 01:11 AM
I like Timewalking, it definitely doesn't feel like oldschool Heroics but I still like seeing all the dungeons again :D I wish they had included more of my favorites though (like Mech and Underbog) I'd forgotten how "old-school" the TBC dungeons feel!

Personally I am liking the game a lot right now, I thought Cata and MoP were meh (MoP was a lot better than Cata though, LOVED the 5.1 questline for Horde) but this is the most fun I've had since Wrath tbh :D

Freya
06-28-2015, 01:24 AM
Mythic dungeons are nice. They make me feel like it's wrath again. So that may be what you lot are missing. If you can do them that is.

Pike
06-28-2015, 02:02 AM
Wrath heroics were really easy though; TBC heroics are where it was at. You had to be on Vent for those half the time.

Freya
06-29-2015, 05:46 PM
Okay, well it's not a competition here about which was hardest... but it's like that where you actually have to use crowd controlling and what not and use strategy instead of plowing through it if you're higher geared.

What are your opinions on the currently huge server/legacy/pristine servers right now?

http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/20743584206?page=1

Blizzard has finally ended their silence and stonewalling with a firm no on the subject. I personally would want an actual Vanilla legacy server. I didn't get to play much of Vanilla back in the day. I registered at the end of it's life and didn't manage to get a max level toon before BC, which I didn't get to play much of either because of military considerations at the time. I'm in favor of an actual legacy server that's locked in the patch 1.12 patch. Their idea of pristine servers doesn't even come close to what I would actually enjoy. They seem like the current game, with it's current talents and abilities, with everything just leveled at a slower pace. What are your opinions?

Pike
04-27-2016, 01:36 PM
I wouldn't play Vanilla because no blood elves but I would play TBC and probably Wrath too. I don't think I'd play on it exclusively, just when I felt like dicking around with some of the old class mechanics.

I know current WoW is obviously better as far as quality of life goes but I still think TBC was my favorite iteration of hunter mechanics (and Wrath was my favorite for resto druid)

After not playing WoW since Cataclysm fumbled so badly, I'm sucked back in to thinking about playing this game again.

I'm one of those weird nerds who enjoy WoW for the lore. They're bringing back some of my favorite elements with this new expansion: The Alliance and the Horde working together (as evidenced by the trailer), and the Demon Hunters (Illidan was my favorite character from Warcraft III). Is it enough to get me to actually pick up the game? Eh... Still debating that one. But I am actually debating it, after skipping two expansions.

Freya
04-27-2016, 03:18 PM
I'm firmly against it. If Blizz did it, yeah okay whatever, fine. I do agree with them for not doing it though and I do think the Nost server and everything was in the wrong legally and morally.

Pristine servers would be bad in my opinion as well.

You should read the new book for Illidan (http://www.amazon.com/Illidan-World-Warcraft-William-King/dp/0399177566/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1461766812&sr=8-1&keywords=illidan)! It gives a lot of insight to him as a character during BC. I'm in Alpha at the moment and so far it's been really fun so take that for what it's worth haha

Also they have a lore book out! (http://www.amazon.com/World-Warcraft-Chronicle-BLIZZARD-ENTERTAINMENT/dp/1616558458/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1461766841&sr=8-2&keywords=illidan) It's great too! It covers all the way up until the humans basically. So lots of Nelfs and trolls.

I wouldn't play it exclusively either, but I'm having a hard time telling myself I would play the current content enough to raid when I know I would raid the old content. I loved ending up lost in Vanilla, getting myself killed, and just exploring. The intermittent times I was on during BC was when I actually learned to play (sometimes with people from here), but I honestly have fonder memories of my time in Vanilla and Wrath. I would miss being a belf playing Vanilla, and a pally too in both Vanilla and BC, but I know I would enjoy going back to playing old lock during those eras. Wrath was when I really got back into it (because of different people from here that played :shobon: ) and learned to "get gud" :p Raiding as a ret in those times again would be amazing. Ideally I would want them to release a Vanilla, then in time BC, followed by Wrath, but I'm indifferent as to whether they release those specific xpacs as the full thing or slowly rerelease the raids from each content on a timed schedule.

I think Illidan was pretty cool, but Sylvanis has always been my favorite. I'm reeeally hoping her scenes in the opening cinematic mean that she'll have an important role in the story again, but I don't have very high hopes for it. I'm one of those weird lore nerds too :p The book Freya mentioned is called Chronicle. Volume I. It covers the very beginning of their universe until just before Medihv's actions leading to the opening of the first portal. When I first got it, I sat down and read through the whole thing for five hours straight. I also have all the other published books, and have spent so much time reading about lore on pages like WoWWiki.

Firmly against which? Private or Blizzard created Legacy servers? You're the first to bring up private servers talking about Nost. I hope it's Pristine Servers you're against because they sound horrible to me :p

Pike
04-28-2016, 10:32 AM
I think I'd want to experience the old raids again. There was a time when I'd want to go back to experience the old heroics as well but Timewalking does a decent enough job with that (granted actual TBC heroics were considerably more difficult but the Wrath experience is pretty spot on.) I miss Karazhan though, and to a lesser extent Ulduar and Naxx. Granted, this is all contingent on finding other people, but assuming I did, I'd totally want to go back in time to do the old raids again.

I can never decide if I want Blizzard to revamp Karazhan or not. On the one hand I'd love to "revisit it" in lore and in game but on the other hand I want them to keep their hands off the original, haha.

theundeadhero
04-28-2016, 03:58 PM
I agree they need to stop messing with old content. Somehow, I miss the old Scholo. It was one of the great dungeons. I can understand why they revamped the Scarlet dungeons with considerations for the dungeon finder. They were just too short, while previously, if you got a group together you would run more than one. The only one I completely agree with is Sunken Temple. I'll never miss the old upper floors. Over the past year, I found myself wishing they would do timewalking raids like they did with MC, but I would like a legacy server better.

Freya
04-28-2016, 06:54 PM
A few of the Artifact quests take place in or around or under Kara so they didn't revamp it but they are revisiting it. (PS they're fun and kinda hard in the green gear they give you when you start)

I'm against private servers and the pristine idea. I think the Timewalking thing could be tuned to encompass things more but yeah, vanilla sucked. BC improved greatly on it. That's just my personal opinion having played and raided then. I think the biggest thing for people is the nostalgia of it. A lot of people were younger so they remember that time as being easier for a lot of them. The associate Vanilla with those easy fun times and not the fact life was easier. I feel the same about a lot of love for VII but that's controversial as well hahahaha

Old Sunken Temple and Old Wailing Caverns were both horrific and I'm glad they're gone!

Did you guys hear about the pre-legion event? They're testing it in alpha. it's basically wrath zombies 2.0! Which was the most fun event ever! You start hearing whispers in org/SW and then you get 9 stacks and some spells. Every time you use it, you're giving more into the legion and a stack is removed. You get to make other players hostile to NPCS and players haha. When you remove all of them you turn into a dreadlord and can attack things and people!

Um, I don't really think the zombies was the "most fun event ever". I actually found it incredibly annoying to be forced into PvP against my will, have to wait hours to turn in quests because questgivers were killed, and generally having to tiptoe around any population center because you had no way to block the effects.

YEAH!

It was just a temporary event and was fun for the time! I'm glad they're doing it again. With this new one you can just deselect the buff and not have to participate though. Just enjoy the temporary event!

SO far it's just SW/ORG and people haven't' figured out if it persists via summons. If not, no need to worry outside of the towns.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm the only person in the world that didn't think TBC heroics were hard. Although, I guess my experience is kinda skewed being in a Naxx guild in vanilla, and leading my own guild through all the content in TBC. The only one I remember having any gripe with was The Botanica, which I think was more because it was long... and boring... than hard. (wow... what a string of words that was... huehuehue)

Pike
04-28-2016, 09:04 PM
I don't think all of the TBC heroics were tough but some of them... Shadow Labs, Hellfire Whatsitcalled... not Ramps. Not Blood Furnace. The other one. xD Those were kind of challenging. I remember Ventrilo being a thing for some of them. And I remember CC before every pull and so on and so on.

Anyways I liked the TBC/WotLK zombie event, I thought it was a blast and I don't remember it being particularly disruptive at all. I don't think any of my alts were affected, really. By the end it was really neat because Stormwind was a warzone straight out of a zombie movie. And I got a special tabard and an item in my inventory that makes a ghost appear every so often. Still got those! Wish I could get that tabard at the tabard vendor though so I could have it on other characters.

Anyways I've been a bad, baaad person since making this thread like a year ago and I've been cheating on WoW with other games. I really only log in for garrison stuff these days and then bail, haha.

I jsut read about the pre-launch event earlier today. I'm very excited for it.

I think the biggest thing for people is the nostalgia of it. A lot of people were younger so they remember that time as being easier for a lot of them. The hundres of thousands of people who play them, legally or not, disprove this opinion. Not just Nost, but all the Vanilla private servers that have existed for years. Some of them have been around since BC and still have thousands of accounts log in every day.

There were some feels, with some of the lore moments you knew were coming, and then happened. There were some changes too which I hope were just for the movie and not official retcons. I would definitely recommend it to lore fans. It wasn't really superbad like some reviews seem to say.

Runas the shamed is the saddest thing.

The Kosumoth Easter Egg thing was awesome to hear about. (I wasn't on when it happened :()

I hit 110 and didn't even finish the leveling zones. I still had stormheim to do at that point.

I've been 110 for several days and still have soooo much to do in suramar.

I switched my main to warrior because of the awful ret pally changes this xpac. I could do things with it people thought were impossible for years, but now it's ranked low and unfun to play. I've been pretty busy with school, but I managed to get it to 110 by last Friday and took it through mythic dungeons that weekend, getting it's ilvl up to the 820s. I plan to run some more this weekend and hopefully get up to 835. It's been fun. I really like all the lore threw put into it this time. I've been wondering what they would do with Turalyon and Alleria for years :p Did they announce the last boss yet? I haven't been paying much attention to the media around it.

theundeadhero

New Kara stuff was fun. I really enjoyed the early half where you fight old familiar bosses. Attumen was especially crazy fun and fast. The whole party was running around the whole time looking for scrolls to pick up for their buffs :p The second half wasn't bad. Viz'aduum can be a challenge until you get a few practice pulls in. We didn't do a Nightbane run since we didn't want to rush through our first playthrough.

Skyblade

Well, I caved and started playing again. The Death Knight is without a doubt the most fun class to play as (which is fantastic, because it was my favorite Hero class in Warcraft III, and a class I was hoping would be playable when WoW launched).

I really like the new Artifact weapon system so far, and the more structured story is very nice.

I'm glad people are liking this again. I eventually went back to trying ret pally and the changes from beta are huge. It's fun to play now and my main again. I've tried a few times and never could get into a DK. Maybe later this xpac I'll give it a try again.

Okay coming home from blizzcon. Things I'm excited for:

The class mounts look awesome.
The new pvp brawls look fun, a low visibility winter arathi? Sudden gravity shifts? They look super fun.
The tomb looks interesting.
And we're going to argus at the end of the expac?! Whaaat?

Skyblade
11-29-2016, 06:37 AM
Well, really enjoying most of the expansion. One part of the Demon Hunter Order Hall quest really bugs me, but the rest is quite awesome.

Biggest gripe so far: Levelling my characters to 100. I didn't play Panda for more than two days, and I didn't play Warlords at all. But if I want to put my characters into Legion content? I have to go through the stuff that drove me out of the game.

I am actually excited to work on alts for the first time in...ever. I want to see the class stories unfold, customize my characters with their artifacts and transmog sets (I love what they did with the Transmog system).

Progress is stalling out a bit (around 840 on most of my gear), so I'll have to try Heroics and Mythics and LFR... But still, been a really solid core so far. I hope they take these systems further.

The writing has gone considerably downhill over the years. Even the novels that come out between games aren't as good as they used to be.

Getting the legendaries is a lot of luck and time consuming and everything else, but not as much as earning the pvp titles were. That was a grind more intense than anything I've previously done in the game, and I've done a lot.
