I have no idea who any of those people are. I'm only here to recommend George Carlin, Eddie Izzard, and Jim Jefferies.

Patton Oswalt is my bridgetroll soul mate and his comedy is wonderful.

Tig Notaro, who is specifically endorsed by Louis CK with a link to her on his personal site (https://louisck.net/news/about-tig-notaro). She is the future of comedy, and in such a short amount of time has literally moved mountains in the world of comedy. Her story is amazing, and if you like her, listen to Aisha Tyler interview her on AT's Girl on Guy podcast. Additionally, of course, Louis CK.

Maria Bamford is wonderful. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ivSf0-QQfw)

Mike Birbiglia. Michael Ian Black. Brooks Whelan (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9O0qZTI5nck).

Anjelah Johnson (baDJ-ZIvYy0) is a wonderful hispanic comedian.

I grew to really like Jim Jefferies, but some of the stuff he says about women is just nails on the chalkboard for me. I know it's all comedy etc etc but comedy is based on truths so I'm an angry internet feminist about that particular portion of his comedy. He is generally hilarious, though.

Jim Jeffries is one of my favorites. Also Patrice O'Neil, Jim Norton, and Colin Kane end up in my play lists a lot.

Find episodes of @Midnight online. They have a lot of current comedians & the shows pretty funny.

I second most the people Shiny and Shorty mentioned. Gaffigan and Birbiglia are some current favorites.

Ed Byrne's Different Class remains my very favourite stand-up act to date.

When I first got cable and thus access to Comedy Central back around 2000 I saw a lot of comedians. The only one that has stuck with me all these years is Lewis Black.

I love that guy. He's getting on in years too. I hope he is careful.

Jim Gaffigan is the best! I love Daniel Tosh but haven't seen anything new from him in awhile. and obligatory George Carlin was the best comedian ever.

Eddie Izzard's special where he opened up with saying how he's a transvestite was gold ("Do you have a FLAG?"). Goerge Carlin in general is great (though I agree with a lot of his points, he does get a bit preachy at times). Mitch Hedberg I also really enjoyed when he was around (any one can tell that I love his kind of humor). There are others, but it's more of me being a fan of certain stand-up bits rather than a single person.

There's been a couple of times I was told that I should be a stand-up comedian. To shut them down I stood up and told the
"chicken crosses the road joke" or just said something horribly awkward then slowly sat back down.

EDIT:
Oh shit, I forgot about Daniel Tosh. Such a douchebag and I love him to pieces.

I have no problem with him and I enjoyed that show of his, but his smile looks like he stabbed someone in the ass and is real happy about it.

...I do not see the appeal of Tig Notaro. Like, at all. o_O

Her standups on Netflix, but I really like Kitty Flanagan. Not so much the first part, as it's referencing Australian shit I have know knowledge of, but after that it gets fantastic.

Also on Netflix? Morgan Murphy: Irish Goodbye. I lost my shit so many times during that special. <3

Doug Stanhope is another great one I saw pop up on Netflix recently. He's apperently been doing this for a while, so I need to catch some of his back log. His 'Proof of an afterlife' bit on that special may be the only joke of it's kind I've ever heard in a stand up, and I freakin' love it.
