The VGC is Nintendo's "official" way of battling. Double Battles, 4 on 4.

Each player enters a battle with a team of 6. Before the battle starts, you get a team preview showing your opponent's 6 Pokémon.

You then select 4 Pokémon to actually send into battle, as does your opponent. But you don't know which 4 they actually choose of the 6 they have available.

So you try to choose your 4 Pokémon that either work the best together overall, or form the best counter to your opponent's team. It lets players cut out some dead weight, and customize the teams slightly for each battle.


They're fun, but mostly I just mentioned them to see the reaction I'd get. :D

For PvP, I prefer regular as well, mostly because I'm more familiar with them. Double Battles are by far my favorite way of facing the computer, though.

The VGC style does solve a lot of little balance issues, though. Like Stealth Rock.

Actually, looking back, I don't think I could have won it.

The mistake I made was not using Protect against Noivern near the end of the game. It would have popped Speed Boost, making Blaziken faster, and Noivern was low enough that one hit could KO it.

But I don't think, even at +1, Blaziken can outspeed a Noivern. 80 Base Speed vs 123. So I would have needed either a double Protect, or for Hurricane to miss.

Still a great match. So close, so hype. I definitely misplayed by letting Ferrothorn go down. I should have known that was coming. Minato couldn't afford to keep switching through the Stealth Rocks.

When you win, the victory screen pops up, and it displays these numbers.

One player has zero Pokémon left, because all of theirs have fainted.

The other has a number between 1 and 6, depending on how many Pokémon they have left who can battle (or I guess a draw if the last Pokémon uses Explosion or something?).

So a 1-0 match is very very close, as one person has only one Pokémon left, and the other has none. But 6-0 means that one person didn't lose a single Pokémon the entire match, and is completely one-sided.

Go to Internet Settings, and test the connection. Then, see if you can go to the E-Shop. You might have to download an update to the game before it will let you go online.

When it asks you "Choose who to send in to battle", you have to select them all. The first one you choose leads the battle. The rest don't matter much, but you have to choose them.

So far the MVPs seem to be Bern, Minato Arisato and Skyblade.

Bern has only lost one fight so far, and the one she's won are mostly by a large margin.

Minato hasn't lost a single fight yet, but she's only done three so far.

After a rocky start, Skyblade just seems to be sweeping, defeating people with 4, 6 Pokes left.

And then there's Del, our Black horse, who started off losing really badly but has won all his battles after the first one (except with Bern), always having at least three Pokemon left.


I think we have some serious candidates for the gold bracket here. Though at this point - who can say? There's still a lot of battles to go, and everything can change in as little as two match-ups. Not to mention those that have scored the least so far have vowed vengeance. What new strategies will they employ? Will they climb their way up above Ultima Shadow's "evil twin"?

It would have made sense if that Lopunny had an ability to prevent it from using held items. Then they just use Fling or Switcheroo on the opponent. That was Lopunny's one niche before its Mega came about.

Also, there's a certain opponent I'm dreading facing off against. And that is Bern. Not to mention that I've been going around and looking at the competition's teams and I've noticed many Pokemon that could prove problematic.

Not I. Although if you are truly interested, there are plenty of battlers on YouTube that can teach you a lot. I recommend checking out shadypenguinn's channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCU_mC__7H8NBJzX8ubMGY4Q). He hosts videos showing how he builds teams, as well as live commentary on his WiFi battles, how he plans which moves to use and how he considers his options.

I'm sorry that these Pokémon don't have the proper or desired Egg Moves. I was trying breed up a ton of Pokémon, and I wasn't focusing on ensuring full distribution of Egg Moves or proper competitive stats. I wanted to be able to get them out at a fast enough rate to have them read for the tournament, and to ensure that Abilities were correct where I felt they were relevant. This tournament was meant to be a fun, introductory sort of tournament for players unused to the competitive scene, so I did not consider taking things further necessary or productive. I apologize if any of you felt that this method unfairly hurt your team, but I ask for your understanding of the situation leading up to the tournament, and I would also like to remind you that several of your competitors were much more severely impacted by the RNG of the Egg Draw.

Actually, Sky was the one who let me know about the tournament. It was in the planning stages then, and it was also during a rather low point in my life. I needed something to cheer myself up, so I decided to heed Sky's advice and join the forum.

I have to say that it was one of the better choices I've made.:)
