Welcome, one and all, to the long-awaited second stage of our Pokemon Tournament! The time has come to put your abilities to the test! Who has taken the best care of their precious little eggs? Do you have what it takes to become a Pokemon Champion?


Tournament proceedings

1. The battling stage of the tournament is divided into two phases - the round-robin tournament serving as a preliminary round, and the final winners will be determined through a tournament bracket. All contestants will take part in both phases. The preliminary round serves to determine whether a contestant is placed in the bronze, silver, or gold bracket.
2. For both phases, single battles with normal rules are the proper way to fight.
3. As of today, you have two weeks to battle all the other contestants in the preliminary round, You must report your results here - who won and how many Pokemon were lost. Two points are awarded for winning, one point is awarded for participating in a battle. So any battle that you don't participate in costs you points. This round ends on Saturday, August 1st.
4. Once the preliminary round is over, we'll divide the contestants into brackets and announce the estimated dates of the matches.
5. Please make sure you record your battles on the VS recorder so that we can allow spectators to watch our battles! (if anyone has the tools to upload those battles to YouTube, that would be so awesome, but I kinda doubt that).

Spectators are of course very welcome to join in the fun! The VS. codes posted will alow you to watch the battles, as long as you have a 3DS/2DS with a 6th-gen Pokemon game!

indeed, it will be a little messy, i suggest my system that i used for my pokebattles last year.
tell us who has to battle who, and set a limit (maybe 1 week) after that you come up with new matches

That would take way too much time though, and not everyone has leveled up their Pokemon properly. We'll be doing specific matchup dates when the bracket phase comes along. For now, just challenge each other whenever you're ready and I'll be keeping track of the results and who still needs to face whom.

As you may have noticed, my situation with these things grows worser by the hour. Damn, the chance i will get through you all will be pretty low. Nevertheless i will attempt my best. But please dont be annoyed if i cant battle you, it is truly a battle of time and technology!

If it turns out there were too little matches by the 25th, I might extend the time limit. But until then, there's the motivation of potentially losing your points for skipping a battle :p So I'd advise you to battle each other as quickly as you can so that you have fewer participants to worry about. I'll update the OP later with the matchup results so far and the points everyone has. Sorry it's so hands-off on my end, but fifteen contestants is a lot, and many people may just not be around for the time window that I decide on. So I'm leaving it up to you to discuss the appropriate dates individually. I figure the preliminary round will become much more organic that way.

Plus, it's the weekend now! A perfect time to battle as many people as you can ;)

I think the issue may be that you can only save the video if you're playing ORAS in those cases. I'm on X and whenever I battles someone with ORAS, the game said I can't record this battle video.

I think the issue may be that you can only save the video if you're playing ORAS in those cases. I'm on X and whenever I battles someone with ORAS, the game said I can't record this battle video.

Each person fights 14 battles, yes. But you'd be counting every battle twice if you just multiplied 15 by 14.

The first person fights 14 battles.
The next person fights 14 as well. But that includes one fight against the first person, which means they only fight 13 new battles.
The next person fights 14, but that includes the fights against the first two, which are already counted.

So instead of 15 x 14, it's this:
14+13+12+11+10+9+8+7+6+5+4+3+2+1

The very last person's fights are all accounted for in the other match listings.

Well, probably. But Grunty didn't get Dunsparce. When I saw that little guy, I kind of jumped to conclusions. I actually like a lot of Rez's team. Just not the best team to take against my team.

...And it has Dunsparce. Who, while cute, does not dominate matches, even with Para-Flinch.

I found a way to look at things in a more positive light.

Thanks to Bern being a complete jerk, actually.

I faced off against Ulti again. I still lost, but I'm much, much happier with the match overall (even though I screwed up so many times). I hope Ulti recorded it, I can't record an ORAS battle on X, which is what I battle from (because Kalos is just so much better).

Final differential of that fight was 3-0, Ulti's favor. It was 2-0 Ulti the time I ragequit, so take whichever you prefer.

Possibly. Sucker Punch is really powerful, but it can be played around, especially if your opponent knows you carry it.

You can also use that to your advantage, though.


For example, I was in a match where I had a Mega Absol facing a Slowking. Sucker Punch WOULD KO the Slowking, and my opponent knew it (he also knew by that point that I had no other Dark coverage). So, to avoid the KO, he switched out (since Sucker Punch only works if he attacks). And the Pokémon he switched in got OHKOd by Play Rough. I knew he wasn't going to attack, because he couldn't risk the Sucker Punch. And I used that to predict either a switch or a support move, and go for the best move I had to reliably hit his whole team.

I think I'll take part in the next one. I am very nervous because while I don't have a fear of losing per se, I do have a fear of other people watching me play games. I feel like they're judging what I do, like which moves I picked and whatever. And I am not an expert at all, I level up super slowly, I have no tricks, so that makes me nervous :ohdear:

But I would like to try. I might have fun and if I don't I can just not participate next time

I do suck. I didn't put Knock Off on my Absol that match. >.<

I also wasn't as nervous that match. I had a chat session up, and I was chatting back and forth with my opponent. It calmed me and let me think about things more. We even gave each other tips mid-match.
