Actually, I don't really care much for him.

Magus is definitely the most fun party member and on later NG+ he's one of the best party members when Dual and Triple techs become worthless but I would honestly give this to Crono or Robo as the best since they have much better diversity and have very few weaknesses when fully leveled and geared up.

With that said, he's usually in my party.

Guile is easily one of the better party members due exclusively for being available really early in the plot and his Level 3 attack is a group hitting attack. He's one of the few characters that makes Elements worth using but it's really that natural group hitting attack that keeps him useful since melee will always overtake magic in NG+.

Only one of those options is a selectable party member in Chrono Trigger.

But yeah, if we are talking best mechanically, Robo is the best assuming you give him all your magic tabs. He solo out-heals dual techs, and it's cheap as fuck. And he hits hard and can take a huge beating.

Frog and Magus are a couple of my favorites though. :p
