So I suppose the first Japanese musicians I heard were the people who sang the OPs or EDs for a few anime like Inuyasha.
But the first ones I actually listened to, as in got their music online or bought their CDs, was Malice Mizer. (I mostly have female friends so....)

I mainly prefer their Gackt-era stuff simply because it was...well, it was lighter. I love Mana and Moi dix Mois but I just liked this style like you hear above more than the darker symphonic metal that was heard in their last album.
It doesn't hurt that Mana and Gackt are kinda scrumptious....
