Beijing, China selected as host of 2022 Winter Olympics

The International Olympic Committee has officially selected Beijing, China to host the 2022 Winter Olympics. It was previously host of the 2008 Summer Olympics, making it the first city to host both the Winter and the Summer Olympics.

Didn't they just host a few years ago? When there was that crazy fireworks opening with giant footprints and a little girl lipsyncing another little girl's singing?

Or did I imagine all that?

Yeah they did host in 2008, they'll be the first city to host the Summer and Winter games. I imagine they wouldn't usually have had a chance for this one so soon after 2008 but since everyone else pulled out and it was either Beijing or Almaty, kind of boosted their chances.
