Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata announced that the game will get a simultaneous release worldwide. He recently spoke of this at Gamescom 2015:

"This may be something that we are little bit embarrassed to talk about, but really, this is the first time that we’ve done a packaged, standalone Final Fantasy game with a simultaneous global launch, so we didn’t have the setup to deal with that, really. The first thing we had to do was rearrange our internal structure to create something that could do that. That was the first important work on the project."

This will be the first for a major Final Fantasy game, as Square Enix (and formerly Squaresoft) had a habit of releasing the games in Japan before translating them for international audiences. Tabata stated the goal is for a worldwide release on both the Playstation 4 and XBox One.

what happened to the graphics? they look like they've been severely downgraded.

It's just a screenshot from the demo. It's not the finished product so pretty hard to call out a downgrade from that.

Anyway, glad to hear about a simultaneous launch! It's always hell waiting for a Final Fantasy game to release in the UK.

I imagine the image has been compressed to some extent for the purposes of being uploaded. A high quality 1080p shot would be a couple of megabytes at least.

That's an ollllllllld screenshot from shortly after Episode Duscae's (the first one, not 2.0) release date was announced.

Although to be fair, if you play Episode Duscae and look at the E3 2013 trailer, it is quite a downgrade...

Though SE swears the demo is unrepresentative of how the final product will look and run.

the 2013 trailer was probably pre-rendered.

in either case, what i was really talking about is that it looks like that screenshot was something like a photograph of a TV, then blown a bit up.

For any other company an announcement and thread titled 'worldwide release' would be about the actual release date. What this boils down to is SE announcing that FFXV is planning to be released.

Simultaneously. Worldwide. For the first time ever. In 2016... ish.

This was pretty much confirmed with Episode Duscae for me. I was shocked when SE said it was coming day and date English dubbed with the Japanese version.

Would be weird if they did that with the demo and not the actual game.
