NEW STAR TREK. BRAND NEW SERIES. (http://www.startrek.com/article/new-star-trek-series-premieres-january-2017) Where m' nerds at, get in here!

The brand-new Star Trek will introduce new characters seeking imaginative new worlds and new civilizations, while exploring the dramatic contemporary themes that have been a signature of the franchise since its inception in 1966.

Although there is this crudy streaming thing they'll be trying. But we're still a year out so whoknows if they'll stick with it.

The new series will blast off with a special preview broadcast on the CBS Television Network. The premiere episode and all subsequent first-run episodes will then be available exclusively in the United States on CBS All Access, the Network’s digital subscription video on demand and live streaming service.

Who's excited?!

Well it has to be better than Voyager and Enterprise at least.

Will it be following the film timeline or the original timeline I wonder? Hope it's the latter. I also hope it's a sequel (as in set during or after Voyagers timeline), as much as I'm enjoying the movie reboots I'm really not up for yet another prequel.

All that said, I'm hyped either way. Seeing new Star Trek back on my TV screen can only be 100% a good thing.

Whaaaaaaaat? :jess:

Pumpkin will never be able to escape this show. I'm on Voyager. Then I'm going to make her watch Enterprise. Then TOS. Then all the movies.

By that time, the show will be on Netflix, and we'll watch that. She's never going to get away from it.

Excited? EXCITED!? I'm ECSTATIC! :score::cheer:

Only a little worried that such a serie is made or broken by the main characters. I'm not sure the producers are in the proper mindset for these things anymore. I mean, they might get the wrong idea from the retarded shows on TV these days.

I heard a rumor that Ira Steven Behr is interested in working on it so I hope that happens because my body is ready for Deep Space Nine Two: Electric Boogaloo

CBS has a subscription digital service? That's dumb. I liked TNG and am liking DS9 so far but I've heard the most recent two series weren't as good.

I liked Voyager, honestly. Enterprise was starting to get good around Season 4, but they upped and cancelled it before it could hit its strive.

I expect this will follow the film reboot timeline given that the creator wrote Into Darkness. It would be nice to see some more in the original universe though, I love TNG so much <3

I liked Voyager, honestly.

IMO it's not that Voyager was bad, so much as it was coming after two Treks that were both VERY good (TNG and DS9) and it doesn't really stand up to them. Like it's not a bad series but it's really tough to follow up DS9.

Yeah, there's that too. Never really thought of it that way. I was introduced to the series through Voyager so didn't have TNG or DS9 to compare it to.

I like the Doctor in Voyager in fairness. It's just when Voyager was bad, it was REALLY bad.

Honestly, I'm not looking forward to this.

The last Star Trek series - Star Trek: Enterprise - was BAD.

They'll probably follow the movie continuum, seeing as that's where all the new fans will be starting from. But, in that continuum, did ANY of the events that took place in any of the other series happen? If not, I worry that they'll just take that as an excuse to replay the same scenarios, meaning a lot of rehashing of old stories and plotlines.

That much was true, yeah.

It's being headed by the guy who worked on both new Star Trek movies, so it's pretty much a given that it's going to be set in the new universe. I can't imagine they're going to continue the old one with him. What you said is pretty much Into Darkness in a nutshell. While I enjoyed the movie, they had the chance to do anything they wanted and they opt to remake Wrath of Khan instead.

I love anything with TOS! Movies included! They're so silly and entertaining.

It takes a lot for me to hate things. Heck, I thought even twilight had good cinematography.

I liked TNG okay and Voyager I am liking okay. HATED DS9 though. Even thinking of it in retrospect makes my skin crawl. The series is just overall not my type of show but I like some of it more than others, I guess

I heard a rumor that Ira Steven Behr is interested in working on it so I hope that happens because my body is ready for Deep Space Nine Two: Electric BoogalooThis will be glorious if it happens.

As long as Rick Berman and Brannon Braga (the blokes responsible for the worst parts of Voyager, Enterprise and the TNG movies) or Roberto Orci (the crazier writer for the reboot movies) have nothing to do with it, there could be some real potential.

Today's TV writing styles would suit Trek well: major story arcs, serious character development, and real consequences to actions and decisions. All of Voyager, and the first half of Enterprise lacked all of those, and both shows really suffered as a result. If it's done right, there could just be a truly great Star Trek show once again.

Or it could go horribly wrong and be pure poo that gets cancelled after half a season. Honestly, it could end up going either way. I'm going to keep my expectations low, but I'll still look forward to it in the hopes that it'll turn out awesome.
