Anyone else doing a marathon of these movies building up to Mockingjay Part-2, or is it just me?

https://youtu.be/F4NhkShJneo

This was a pain in the ass to edit, and I blame it largely on the way it was filmed. The camera just didn't want to work with me on any of these scenes.

Keep in mind this is my first time going through the series and I never read the books, so... Yeah.

Discuss all things Hunger Games related here. I'd say use spoiler tags where appropriate, but they don't seem to be working for me for some reason.

Edit: Was doing it wrong.

Not a fan of the films (Battle Royal is better) but I've been dragged to all the other films so I'll most likely be dragged to the last one as well.

Battle Royale is actually about something different, thematically speaking. Both are social commentaries, but on different things.

I liked the books and the movies so far have been better, with even the comparably weak Catching Fire being good. I havent actually seen the first Mockingjay movie yet, since I want to do it right before seeing part 2. I'm kinda fed up with all those book series finales being split into two parts. The Mockingjay was not that long. And it was definitely the best book of the three. So I guess I'll be judging them both once part 2 comes out.

I've watched all the movies so far, however they were forced on me. I wouldn't have seeked them out myself however I did enjoy them. I'll watch the last one someday.

Catching Fire is my hands down favorite so far. It's not everyday a sequel actually surpasses the first film. Curious to see if the highroad continues into Mockingjay Part-1.

Don't tell me.

Yeah, the movie was really great, especially compared to the book. Catching Fire was the weakest book by far.

Am I the only one who thinks Catching Fire is, hands down, the best book?

Catching Fire > The Hunger Games > Mockingjay

Just finished Mockingjay Part-1 and am now caught up for Mockingjay Part-2 next week. Mom's so psyched about it she wants to see it on the day it release since she has a day off on Friday. Which is rare since she usually never wants to go to the movies on the weekends since it cost more. Not that I'm complaining. It allows me to have a special unscripted Movie Monday to talk about the last movie. Less editing for me.

My list is actually the exact opposite of yours, Jinx :p Although, admittedly, while I think the Mockingjay is by far the best book, it's probably also the most difficult read, which is why I understand why people don't like it too much.

I can't support the awarding of best book in the series to the one where Katniss spends half of it sleeping and crying in air vents and then survives, not getting her hero's death or anything. I can appreciate the end in some ways, at least, I guess.

I actually have no issue with her sleeping and crying and hiding, since she's obviously suffering from PTSD. I think it was a realistic progression for her character.

Movies wise I think the PTSD was better portrayed in Catching Fire than Mockingjay Part-1. Probably going to be worse now that Peeta smurfing tried to strangle her to death!

YouTube blocked the video in some countries, so if you're one of the ones affected you can watch it on Dailymotion:

Mockingjay book was awful. And so was the first movie - just absolutely dire.

My my disdain of Mockingjay is about how it ends though so, meh. Cos there is one character I hated through out the whole series and one I really loved and the ending was fucked.

Think it's going to be a while before I do another marathon. This was exhausting.

There's some background noise in the video. Sorry. Audacity doesn't do too good removing it while you're talking, and since I went unscripted I couldn't do any of my usual workarounds.

I saw Mockingjay Part 2 on Thursday night...

It was good, though it felt...quite a bit more dark and gritty than the other films, so much so that it felt out of it's element at times.

The ending was semi-satisfying. I mean I'm glad that Katniss and Peeta finally got to be free together in the end and live out a normal and free life back in their home never having to worry about another games or fighting for their lives in a dystopian nightmare again but I really hated that Primrose and 90% of all the supporting characters died, and that Katniss ended up hating Gale in the end and I also hated that the ending didn't go the way the first three films made it appear to be going, showing the consequences and aftermath of a failed revolution rather than a full blown WAR IS BAAAAAD moniker that we've seen a billion times before. I also felt like the producers really took the lazy way out with the closing scenes, where rather then actually giving us a glimpse at what life was like a couple decades later in a post-games, post dictatorship Panem, we got Katniss in an empty field having an inner monologue.

I still enjoyed it though and can't believe three years flew by so fast. I'm sad that it's over, though not nearly as sad as I was when Harry Potter was over. :p

All in all, I'd have to say that Catching Fire is still my favorite of the four films.

Ayen

Agreed with Catching Fire. Mockingjay Part-2 has become my second favorite of the bunch, though.

I was super upset about Prim. Didn't even know I cared about her that much until she blown away. It will never be okay. Katniss breaking down was a real tear jerker. As it should be. The trout she went through in the Hunger Games ended up being in vain.

Jinx
11-25-2015, 05:47 PM
The most tragic thing about Prim's death is that the entire war started BECAUSE OF HER. Katniss did it to keep her sister safe. I think it's pretty safe to assume that the citizens of Panem would've revolted again eventually--and probably sooner rather than later--but it all started because Katniss volunteering for Prim because of her love of her sparked hope in a downtrodden people.

Yeah, you could say technically the thing with the berries is really what made people want to be more than just a pawn, but even by putting her sister's life over her own, Katniss refused to play by the rules of the Capitol.

And then, to top it all of, Prim is killed by the "good" guys. There's really no winning.
