I believe the implication is that they landed on Sin. And with all the gravity bullshit Sin/YY is shown to be capable of in the game stopping a couple of people from falling on the debris on his body is easy to accept.

Besides there's like no falling damage in this game. Party survives being pushed off the cliff by Chocobo Eater and if I remember correctly Tidus LITERALLY lands on his feet. Been a while since I saw that scene though so I might be imagining things.

Well, in my case I was using cheat codes so I just assumed the infinite health kept them safe.

On my second and further playthroughs on PS2, then an Action Replay was a godsend.

On PS4 no such device or cheats exist to my knowledge.

Oh, this was back on the PS2 through Code Breaker. I don't know any cheat codes for the PS3/PS4, or if they even still make Code Breakers for them anymore.

It's been frozen for centuries, after all - the river that feeds the lake could easily have changed its course, or been dammed, in the meantime.

I agree, Sin's power is the key factor here, but it doesn't change a fact that they should be injured after falling of the cliff.
