In this week's issue of Famitsu, Square Enix producer Yoshinori Kitase gave an update on the progress for the development of Final Fantasy VII Remake.

I believe that this year will still be a year of preparations for Final Fantasy VII Remake. I’d like to create a new kind of value for the hardware that is the PlayStation 4 for our next announcement.

It seems to be a ways off until the game hits stores. Reading between the translated lines, it seems like 2017 will be a likely target for a release. The fact that they're still talking about it being made for the PS4, however, brings optimism that we may see the game before the next generation of systems.

I think he means that they want to get the absolute most out of the hardware.

So if this is saying that we probably arent gonna see any release this year, that means they'll have roughly 3 years into production come next year and maybe we wont have to wait too long in between segments.

I don't think anyone held any fanciful notions of anything earlier than 2017. Regardless of the state the game is in, they won't want it releasing too close to XV.

This is something else to consider. They've got to let the XV release run it's course first.

Also the later release makes a lot of sense when you think about how much code is required for Sohth.

Having a year of preparation is fine. The only thing that bugs me is that they announce it at E3 and then show gameplay footage a couple months later. For every other company out there except SE, this would imply the game is coming out within the next year. The synchronization of news releases and their development cycle is unacceptable.

And the fact they loudly taunted us with the fact that part 1 was complete and one reason for splitting it up to us was to be able to play it faster.... I get they NEED to have a big year for 15 but if its finished, why wait another year
You could easily release this in March or April and put a 'to be continued ____ of 2017' tag or whatever and then have the release for 15 around november and still give it solid time to sell.
