We have our first practice battle! Galuf and Shaibana have asked me to moderate their first battle together so this is a great opportunity for you guys to see what an actual fight would look like in the Thunderdome.

Let's Fight

Both participants enter the Arena with one Hi-Potion (+20HP when used) and no environmental items.

The first turn will go to Zack!

In a tie breaker situation we will have a sudden death round that will be explained at a later date, but because this is just a friendly battle and a tie breaker can get a bit complicated we're just going to leave it at that for now.

That match was as straight forward as it can get. Neither party used their ability or their Hi-Potion which could have turned the tide of battle in their favour, but I was in chat with Shai and Galuf and they were still a bit unsure of the mechanics which is why it panned out the way it did. Thank you to the two of them for being our first 2 battlers, and hopefully you guys follow their lead.

I see, so a battle has only four 'rounds'. Interesting! This makes doing burst damage all the more important really, as you can't go on the offence for long.

That, and you're only given two opportunities to attack, so deciding which stat to go for will be interesting.

it can last more than 4 rounds. as will be seen in the current practice fight lol

Yeah, Formy. A match lasts until 4 stats are played but however many turns it takes for those 4 stats to be played is different every time. So it could theoretically go something like; stat, ability, item, stat, stat, item, ability, item, stat, end.

I see, so it isn't four rounds, but rather four stats. That makes sense. Just one more thing, how many times can you 're-use' a stat? While I don't think it is allowed to use a stat twice in a row, could I do something like STR, SPD, STR? Or does it have to be a completely separate stat each time?

Pheesh

Completely separate each time. Once a stat has been played it can not be played again in that match. That's why you'll want to maximise the amount of damage you can do with your best stats and try to be prepared for when a weak stat gets called.

Completely separate each time. Once a stat has been played it can not be played again in that match.

By either side? Wow, that'll make deliberation really important. In that case, it probably is best to just call out the highest stat first, and then think on defence later (Firion's shield bash ability might come in use later).

Yeah, but a lot of people's best stats are tied to their ability, so it's a gamble on whether you want to use it right away and give up your chance to use your ability. I like to think of the game as fundamentally easy with a lot of nuance and a little bit of luck mixed in :D

I don't think Shield Bash is tied to a stat... *checks the stat thread* no, it doesn't appear to mention a specific stat. Phew.

Yep, only direct damage or curative abilities are tied to stats (I think).
