PRACTICE BATTLE: Karifean vs Formalhaut

Might as well get some way of practice. Karifean, I challenge you!

We'll both start with a Hi-potion and the obligatory 200 HP (what are we, level 1?).

I'll use MAG, first.

Also, quick question: with my shield bash ability, how would I go about using it? Announcing 'SHIELD BASH!!!' during my turn would tip the opponent off, so do I play my ability after the opponent's turn?

Man what a pre-emptive hit. 30 damage to me.

I use Scatter Shot! All your stats drop by 10 but my Speed drops by 20.

You have to announce it before your turn I believe (this was one of NF's abilities so I'm not 100%). In a real match they don't know what Shield bash does so it wouldn't matter if you tip them off. But in this case it could be a detriment, unfortunately.

This is where practice battles and the easy access you have to each others stats can be a bit of a pain :(

Also, Karifean, in a real battle it won't be announced that your SPD has been dropped by 20 ;)

I take 10 damage from the STR attack, putting me at 160 HP. I attack with 100 DEF (remember, your stats are reduced by 10)!

"Was but a glancing blow, that scattering shot wrecked havoc on my blade and defences. What's this?

*BAM*

Ugh, that was a painful blow, attacking my weaker side. If only I had invested in the diamond chest-plate the last town over. I should hold off, for the moment. Maybe this potion will restore my spirit..."



- Laguna takes aim at Firion's DEF!
- Firion takes a blow! He loses 30 HP! He now has 170/200 HP!
- Firion drinks some Hi-Potion! He regains 20 HP! He now has 190/200 HP!
- Laguna has reloaded! What will he do next?

- Firion steels himself for the next blow, using SHIELD BASH!


Don't worry. Come actual battles, I won't use flavour text that would reveal that Shield Bash is a defensive ability. You already know what it does, so! And you might as well get in the role-playing spirit Shai!

Good game, though Karifean! Shield Bash would be much better against the villains, as they have no idea what it would do. I mean, Shield Bash sounds more offensive than anything else.

Good game indeed! You probably could've beaten me if you'd taken advantage of my Speed weakness ...although then again normally the enemies wouldn't know of it... I do like the intricacies of this system!

We would have drawn on SPD. My SPD was 70 ---> 60, while your speed was 80 ---> 60. There would have been no damage taken by either side, so there wasn't much benefit going that route.

Probably what I should have done is used Shield Bash then the Hi-Potion, but I wasn't counting the turns closely enough. I should probably do that!

And yet it would've ended the fight before I'd have managed to put our HP into a tie again ^^

Really, it was just a case of me not logging the stats used in my head. Had I paid attention to how many stats could have been used, things may have turned out more favourably. As it was, a draw is the fair result!
