View Full Version : How Millennial are you?

So I just took a 'Which Generation are You?' quiz on the Guardian, because why not, and...

67578

I'm not Generation Y, no, apparently I have more in common with someone born in the 60's - 80's. Cue Mr. Carny to  in and laugh.

Regardless of when you actually were born, do you associate more with an older or younger generation, do you even care for generations?

I mean, I may rue my quiz placement, but it does make some sense. Going out partying holds little interest to me, I'd rather play board games or go to the pub with friends for a quiet get-together. I hardly ever use my mobile, and besides Facebook, I'm not terribly big on social media either.

uggggghhhhh

I'm not a fan of these tests and I think people are way too obsessed with labels nowadays  Just because you don't share some stereotypical traits with a generation it doesn't mean you don't share their pop culture or socio-economic climate, which is what really defines a generation in my eyes.

Oh, it was just a bit of fun my end. There's a recurring gag among me and Mr. Carny that I'm just an old man (he even mocked me for wearing a sweater vest!), and I thought this might pickle him.

Honestly, even in the quiz itself there was an option for 'I don't really believe in generations', which I took wholeheartedly.

Honestly, the sweater vest thing is probably worthy of ridicule :p

Go into an office and work out the average age of men wearing sweater vests. Guarantee it'll be well under 30.

Yep. I loved the one that asked you about how you met your partner and not one was even close.

That test is horrible and generalizes the generations even more. Must have been written by someone who isn't actually part of it or is trying too hard to sound like they understand it xD

I'm not sure it's supposed to be taken seriously :grover: I got a chuckle when they managed to get the word 'Thatcher' in there twice, though. Classic Guardian.

Yeah, it's just a quiz that popped up during the day that got me thinking about generations. It's taken to be tongue-in-cheek.

Are your sweater vests tongue-in-cheek as well? :erm:

Gosh, you and that sweater vest, you obsess over it more than Mr. Carny does.

Fynn

It's what you get for wearing a sweater vest :gator:

If this keeps up, I think we're gonna have to add a "MLT wear a sweater vest to the beach" Ciddie this summer

To be fair, he does pull off the sweater vest look very well. One out of one Mr. Carny's would still smurf.

Anywho, regarding the topic, descriptions of generations are always over-generalisations. If your not a sociologist studying long-term generational changes, there's no point worrying about generations.

I think Fynn is the weirdo for not seeing the excellence of a good sweater vest to be honest.

Not so. The man lives in Eastern Europe, which is famously 20 years behind when it comes to fashion. I hear curtains is the go-to hairstyle in Gdansk this year.

Sort of an offshoot of what you are saying, but I just hate these tests in general. Especially the Facebook ones. It's really strange to my how much stock people put into believing they are like Thor because a random test said that. Plus, most of these tests are really obvious based on the answers they give you. You can easily manipulate them to get the answer you want.

I came of age as the new millennium dawned and I got fucked over by boomers and blamed for it, so I'm pretty freaking millennial.

You're an older millennial
You may not be aware you're part of Generation Y, but your answers suggest you must be - although maybe on the 'older' end of the scale.

I've seen things like this before, and they tell me I'm slightly too old to be a Millenial, but I'm slightly too young for the previous generation.

So I roll my eyes and say "Smurf it" to generational labels.

Things I hate hearing from millennials: God I feel so old. You're such a youngin. Back in my day, etc.

Yes, quite often I am younger than people I work with, but many of them aren't that much older than me. It's weird hearing a 30 year old tell me they feel hella old and out of touch. That's going to be in less than 5 years if I don't continue taking in meaningless information.

Back in my day, we didn't sass-mouth our elders.

Mr. Carnelian

What does "back in my day" even mean, really? Isn't today everyone's day? The present belongs to us all equally, not just to the young. Says the young person who's only 21.

You shouldn't be able to use the "I'm so old" "back in my day" etc clichés until you're at least 40 years old. You bet I call people on it. 20s and 30s are far far from old.

And there was no option for: "none."
