Happy Birthday to one of the main heroes of Final Fantasy VI! Celes is perhaps best known for her opera scene, which is one of the most iconic moments in Final Fantasy history. Or perhaps you best remember her from a more tragic scene later in the game, where she really shows her vulnerability during a time of tragedy. Either way, Celes is a standout character from Final Fantasy VI, and a part of many people's gaming memories.

Celes is a Magitek Knight and General initially working for the Evil Empire. When we meet her though, she has had second thoughts about the empire and its methods and is met by Locke in South Figaro where she is to be executed. Sure enough, that doesn't really happen, and Celes joins the resistance.

Like most characters in this game, what she can do in battle is largely up to the player. However, she does have a unique Runic ability, which can absorb magic, and she starts off being able to use Ice magic, in contrast to Terra's fire magic.

Celes was my original favorite character in the game, and still one of the top contenders for the spot even now. :)

Celes is one of my favorite FF characters ever. Every scene with her is great and her theme is beautiful.

Fun fatcs about Celes:

She is Yoshinori Kitase's favorite character from VI.

She was meant to have a smaller role in the story but thanks to the above fact, her role got bigger and bigger during development.

A lot of ideas for her character went unused and can be found in later FF works. For instance, she was originally meant to be a spy for the Empire (which some leftover elements of it can be seen in the game) who would end of truly defecting after being with the party. Her other story involved an unused plot element concerning Magitek soldiers where the process would drive you insane eventually like Kefka and so Celes would struggle with the thought of becoming like Kefka and her love with Locke would keep her sane.
