Let's talk about the two games which actually put BW on the map!
Baldur's Gate I was pretty well received, but it was BG II - and perhaps most especially David Warner's impeccable performance as Jon Irenicus - that catapulted them into the forefront of PC gaming. It still makes the top ranks of "Best CRPG Ever" and even "Best Game Ever" lists.
Discuss these two games here. And heck, Icewind Dale as well!
SO GOOD. Like, THE actual CRPG classic.
I need to replay it really really badly.
Edit: Pillars of Eternity is a great spiritual successor.
With all these new-fangled Dragon's Angels and Mad Essexes, people forget what games actually put Bioware on the map.
Let's talk about the duology that started it all. The two games that pretty much defined heroic fantasy RPGs. An adventure to remember for ages!
What are some of your fondest memories of these games? Your favorite characters? Romances? Did you play the Enhanced Editions? Or are you mad and simple haven't decided to play these epics yet? ;)

Yeah PoE is great in so many ways!
My boy Kana Rua
Merged the threads! :choc2: Double the BG love.
Actually playing PoE right now. Love it, but it's much darker than BG. Just left Gilded Vale. Playing an Aumaua barbarian and things are pretty easy so far

Depending on difficulty and what order you go do things in shit can get real, but it can vary radically.
Eder is such a huge fucking dork it's the best, make sure you take him and Sagani out together when you pick her up.
I love Eder because he has Kanji's voice
You know what I'm reinstalling this.
...if GOG Galaxy actually wants to work, that is.

I do intend to replay BG I soon! I hope I can get the EE for II by then as well, so I can play them back to back

So are these games on PC? Because I am interested in them (and Fynn keeps telling me to play BG).
Yes! You can get them on gog.com! :) (I'm not sure if they're on Steam or not, I haven't looked.)

Y-you mean you don't know everything there is to know about Steam? :erm:
They may very well be on steam. I mean, what isn't?
And yes, you need to play them. Make sure you go for the Enhanced Edition and that you play the in order because you get to export your character from I and continue leveling up in II

Be aware that there is a huge modding scene for both BG games, mostly centered around Spellhold Studios (http://www.shsforums.net/). You can find anything there from slight rules tweaks and a widescreen mod to complete expansion-sized additions to the game, plus the Big World Setup that helps actually install stuff for you. Many of these have been adjusted to ensure they work with the EEs.

Oh man, I beat both bg1 and Icewind dale on my tablet quite recently. Loved them both. Was going to start heart of winter at some point.
Maybe I just haven't put the effort in but I find that I have no use for the majority of spells and have no idea what potions are good or when they're worth using.
