So I have a small confession to make. Whenever I played a game where you could choose your race (or an RP where you picked a race), I pretty much stuck to Human. It's not that I particularly disliked the other races on offer, I just didn't have much of an imagination, so I always chose the blank slate of the human.

But now, I've started to appreciate playing other races, like elves and dwarves. I really like elves now, because in Dragon Age they're the most oppressed race. I think now, I like playing races or groups who are most disenfranchised or oppressed. Hence why Tristan is ostracised, and why I'll probably play a City Elf in my next DA: Origins run.

So what races do you like the most? Do you like elven/magical types, or beefy, muscular races, or the token small race?

Hmm... That's a tough question, because this really depends on the setting.

Like, I am so glad they added male Miqo'te in FFXIV, because when we do start to play the game this summer, I will finally be able to play as a full-on cat! They look so cool and agile and it's gonna feel so great being a cat :D

Now, when I first played Baldur's Gate, I was very much an elf guy, but since then I grew tired of them, and now mostly play humans. But Half-orcs are probably my favorite D&D race because I do like to play as big guys and the tragedy of their existence is pretty moving. It also helps that all the half-orcs in the D&D based games were incredibly well-written and likable. This is why I am now playing as an Aumaua in PoE.

From the Ivalice races, Viera are a pretty obvious choice, but I find that I really like the Seeq when they get introduced in FFTA2. I love the four jobs that they have available, and I can't help but chuckle at the fact that they're the fastest race despite being a bunch of fat pig-men XD

In general, I think I prefer the bulkier races and animal features. Yeah, I think that's a good way of putting it.

I don't do humans. If I wanted to be a human I'd go outside.

I like the smallest races a lot (things like gnomes and hobbits!) because they're cute and adorkable but the more time has gone on the more I've turned into an elf fan. I like the ears a lot (hey I'll admit my fetishes okay) and I feel like they're usually deeper than they're given credit for. Like the blood elves in WoW get a lot of flak for being the "pretty" race but they actually have a super tragic backstory and a lot of really good lore.

I feel like a recurring theme in a lot of elf lore in various settings is simple perseverance, just picking yourself up and continuing to go on and having pride in yourself despite all your hardships. I relate to that a lot!

Everything except humans basically, but these days I have fallen away from being a dorfbro and become elf trash (verified).

e; I should specify that this is all completely out the window in any and all games where I can be an artificial being, whether that's a robot or a golem or what.

Of the listed options, my general preference is for humans.

Unless I can be a lizardperson. Then I am always a lizardperson.

Whit- I mean...uh... what? Wrong thread.

Honestly I like alien races, I'm not sure what you would classify those as so I went with other. Things like Zabrak, Sith and Twi'lek are better than all the generic fantasy races imo.

I tend to like magic characters most but will oftentimes play humans

If I ever play a game where I have the choice, I guess I go w/ the Magic class.

If there's a race with a bonus to Charisma/Looks/Beauty. Otherwise I go with a Magic or Agility-based race.

Bretons and D&D Elves are favorites.

Someone should move this thread to Academia for a little while just for the lulz.

I know. Dog breeding is serious business.

I'm the same way with the whole Human concept. I always want to picture myself and place myself in the main character's role, so i go with whatever best resembles me as a person. The Elder Scroll's games come most to mind when thinking of it, because I can't picture myself running around saving the world as an elf or a wolf, or even a dog if it came to that.
