Oh wow, Just saw this today. Amusing. I like how he makes a point that "it's supposed to be bad!"

Also he totes said Teedus not Tiedus. :colbert:

Yeah, what does he know.

Its Tiedus. Teedus is lame... and it doesn't fit with the FFX song parody that I'm writing.

I have been wondering why he was laughing like that for years, finally the official answer :jess:
I always felt awkward watching this scene when people were around, lowering volume and stuff

Give this man a medal! He's really awesome!
I wish I'd meet him someday. :D
Besides... It's Tee-dus! I knew it! I knew that my pronunciation was correct!
I'm just fabulous!

i always knew the laugh was purposely forced and fake, after all we hear him laugh normally throughout the rest of the game, he was trying to cheer up Yuna by being goofy...

that game trailer for FFX where they pronounce Tidus' name can be found on "The Spirits Within" DVD which came out before FFX was released in the U.S., that's when i first heard the correct way to pronounce Tidus long before i got the game on release day... i always wondered how so many people were getting it wrong when we were told how to say it before the game even came out, but considering the hate campaign on TSW i guess not that many people saw the included FFX trailer...

I get the scene was supposed to be awkward, I just didn't like it in general.

I got one of those editions of FFX that had the bonus disk with small interviews with him and the woman that played Yuna, when I first clicked on this clip I thought "holy shit he got old fast", then realised it's been a whole 15 years since the game was released!

Seems like a really nice guy though. I'll definitely check out more of his videos.

Well, kinda depends.
I assume that the English pronunciation would be "Tie-dus", although "Tee-dus" is closer to the Japanese name, which according to the way it is written in Katakana is supposed to be "Tee-dah".

I have always pronounced it like "Tee-dus" though, since I am from Sweden. :p

I will continue using the right and proper pronunciation,

"Tye-dus"

Thank you very much

Yeah clarification really wasn't needed, at least not for me. My problem was not that it was inappropriate but that it was annoying and embarrassing. The fact that it was intentionally like doesn't make it any less so. If a film depicts a gruesome murder that makes me feel sick they may say "Well we wanted you to feel sick, it was a gruesome murder!"

And that's fine. 10/10 for achieving your artistic goals but my dinner is still ruined.
