Hey everyone I have been recently been playing around with a RPG maker and have been recreating the classic JRPG in a new western style.

I've been trying to make new classes as well. I have made a Mage tank class that is basically a tank, but for all things magic dealing with status effects and magic guards.

I have succefully programmed a blood Mage as well.

An an idea I have been playing around with though is having each PC with one weapon that grows as they level maybe 5% per level or so. Also think I figured out a farming system for potion making!

This is kinda all over this place this post, but let me hear your feedback on what is something you guys would like to see go in one.

Ive been enjoying the challenge of the programming.

Try creating a magic system that blends the charge system of FF1 and 3 with the leveling system of 2. I'm curious what you will come up with. :)

That may be beyond what I can do I may give it a shot to try though.

RPG Maker is fun and I'm glad you're doing something interesting with it ;)

If your interested Fynn I could use some artwork for some monsters. I'll toss them in. Plan to put it up for free on steam when I'm finished.

Haha, thanks for the offer, but I can't really draw anything other than faces well ;) I could help with the script if you need that and I find the time, though!

Just thinking how I could program the magic in. I may be able to do something where it grows with the player level. Not sure though.

Lol sounds good. I'll DM you my rough story idea.

The facial hair on that black mage is glorious.

Hey, these are really cool!

FFNut

The sprites I have made that work so far. Last night I tried to get the "Toxic" status form Pokemon built but must of messed up the formula some place. Thought it would be a great offensive for a green Mage.

By the way, which RPG maker are you using? Are sprites visible in battle, or is it just first-person? Are there character portraits?

FFNut
04-01-2016, 03:40 PM
I'm using the MV. The sprites have portraits as well that I'll upload in a bit for people to check out. They are visible in battle yes.

Fynn
04-01-2016, 03:41 PM
Are the portraits some kind of default art or did you draw them yourself/have someone draw them? Because if they're just default portraits, I could redraw them for you

FFNut

They were made via the Sprite maker I'm using. Give me five and I'll upload them up.

You can send me the originals first then. I'll try to make some sketches over the weekend and you can tell me if you like them. Then we'll decide if you want me to color them traditionally or if we're getting someone to do it digital

OK, great! These look pretty cool already! I'll still draw you some sketches and you can later decide what works best ;)

I was also playing around with making a berserker like Umaro type to add as a character.

Fynn
04-01-2016, 03:57 PM
Since everything is magic in this game, why not make him some kind of mad mage? Someone who's been exposed to magic too much and is a magic-type berserker? He could be very bulky and cast random offensive spells, but you could have some ways to influenve what elements he uses, like through equipment or something

FFNut
04-01-2016, 03:59 PM
I like that idea Fynn! I shall start to see if I can get him programmed. It may be difficult... I just thought of an easy way. The difficulty will be in the equipment only.

Fynn
04-01-2016, 04:01 PM
To offset the risk factor, you could make his spells more powerful, and with no MP-cost. Story-wise it could come with the handicap of him having a much shortened lifespan.

FFNut
04-01-2016, 04:06 PM
You bet! I will build this Wild magic Wakko and have him be nuts! The spells will be easy to redo for him as well as I can just copy and paste them and take away his magic cost. May need to look up how to influence his spells though. I'm still very new to programming. On a side note I failed getting toxic status to work.

Hey Fynn here is the sprite I was building today for your idea of the Berserk Mage. Let me know if you like it.

I thought maybe another female in the party could benefit, also made her skin distinct to show the high magic interaction she has.

Oh cool! More girls :D you want me to make her more feral looking, or is this kind-ish face okay as is?

FFNut
04-01-2016, 06:34 PM
It's totally up to you, it's your charictor.

Fynn
04-01-2016, 06:36 PM
Haha, I don't really feel it's like that. I just came up with the concept, how the character is will be determined by collaboration, so I'm asking to keep this open ;)

FFNut

Ya She may look to nice. I'll play with it more latter. Babysitting at my sisters place right now.

Fynn
04-01-2016, 06:41 PM
Just gonna say this outright - if I draw these, it'll be hard to give them different expressions. Unless we get someone who is experienced with photoshop or something to color them and make those subtle edits, it's not really doable for me. With expressions, I mean. If you're fine with static portraits, then no problem.

FFNut
04-01-2016, 06:54 PM
Ya you bet. I was just using different faces for expression, but it may be more personalized feel being hand drawn.

Wish I could do something interesting with RPG Maker. I think I may have to look into getting one through my PC because theres no PAL release on the PS

Used a quick capture screen to make a quick video of the crafting system I made. You can ignore the mapping as I made something in 10 seconds to try it out. Here it is.

Just got the crafting system made much better... Many endless loops in programming I'm beat to death with games crashing. Got it figured now though. Tomorrow try to fix my bugs with the farming I've been trying to get working perfect.

If you could incorporate a skill system that includes abilities such as Lockpicking, Persuasion, etc that'd be petty badass for an RPG Maker game.

FFNut
04-03-2016, 06:28 AM
I don't know if lock picking could work, but I played around with a passive skill system a bit.

Fynn
04-03-2016, 06:49 AM
You could have the lock picking be magic-based as well. Your green Mage could be taking care of that, for example

FFNut
04-03-2016, 02:38 PM
I was able to recreate the system like in the Elder Scrolls however the bug came when we used an inn to regenerate your hit points and magic. It would start you back without the passive learned. I can look for a workaround though. As I thought it would be neat to put a dragon age perk system in place. Spend job points earned on passives type thing.
