So you have video games you like, you enjoy playing them. But maybe there's a section in the game that you just... well you could do without. It's the stain on an otherwise great game. You get less excited to play when you hit that section for one reason or another. What are some of these sections for you?

A couple come to mind right away.

Umineko When They Cry
Episode 8: Twilight of the Golden Witch. By this point the mystery has basically been concluded and this episode is just focusing on the aftermath. It's somewhat fun to read and as per usual the ending of the episode is amazing, but it's those early and middle sections that get to me. A lot of it is just fanservice of making the characters look awesome. Also I much prefer the way Episode 7 went about bringing things to closure to the way Episode 8 does. And my GOD does it hammer in its points in all the wrong ways.

G-senjou no Maou
Chapter 3. Chapter 2 was so good and Chapter 4 and beyond are so good that this one really stands out like a sore thumb. It has a comparatively minor and uninteresting villain and it just didn't have that sense of urgency or fun to back it up.

Final Fantasy X-2
Chapter 2. For some reason it feels like this chapter is filled to the brim with quests and activities that aren't really much fun to go through. And the story is just there. It's also kinda frustrating before Chapter 3 which is where the game really starts being a ton of fun for me, with loads of good quests and new dresspheres to play around with.

Tomoyo After ~It's a Wonderful Life~
The prologue. It's exposition about the setting interspliced with porn. For one hour. No further comment.

Babel Tower is almost enough to make me never want to replay Xenogears.

The Esper world in FFVI and Sky Chase Zone in Sonic 2 both immediately come to mind. Both sections are short, which is nice, but I'm still stuck there, staring at the ceiling, waiting for them to be over so I can get back to enjoying the game. >_<

FFIV - Everything between getting Edge and obtaining the Lunar Whale, this section just kind of drags on and I could have doen without the second trip through the Babel Tower

FFVI - Mt. Hobbs and getting Sabin, it just feels out of place for me.

FFIX - Everything after the fight between Alexandria and Bahamut

FFXII - Getting to Archades, probably the longest stretch of the game without anything significant happening.

Xenogears - Either Babel Tower or Rico's Anima Relic Dungeon.

Xenosaga Episode 1 - The whole section between the Shion and Ziggy's group finally meeting up up until the Cathedral Ship section. A bit boring.

Suikoden - Neclord

Suikoden II - Either Greenhill or Neclord again.

Suikoden III - Chapter 4, fuck chapter 4.

Suikoden IV - The deserted island section after being exiled.

Suikoden V - The Dragon Calvary section.

Breath of Fire II - Getting Spar, long ass side quest.

Breath of Fire III - Making the Shizu dinner for the mayor. Pain to gather all the ingredients, even more of a pain to make it right.

Breath of Fire IV - The entire section between Ryu and co. getting back to Wyndia and Cray being put on trial all the way to heading north to get a boat. Also, Fou Lu's Tomb.

Breath of Fire V - The battle against the 3 special Rangers, doing the optional dungeon is a pain in the ass as well.

Wild Arms 2 - Anything that involves Tim being the focus.

Chrono Trigger - The first Prehistoric time section. Its a bit too scripted, the dungeons are annoying and a completionist nightmare and the section drags on longer than is necessary.

Chrono Cross - Doing the Marbule quest since it's easy to screw up. Fort Dragonia is also a pain in the ass despite the story pay-off at the end of it.

SMTIII Nocturne - Matador if you're unprepared for him, the Ginza Underpass is probably one of the more tedious sections of the game, especially if you plan on fighting the optional Oni.

Persona 3 - May through July, not going to lie, it's not exactly the most riveting section of the story.

Persona 4 - The Last day when doing the true ending. It just always felt a bit tacked on to me and the real villain wasn't as interesting or compelling as the actual Serial Killer and final boss of the normal ending.

MG2 - The Keycard trick

MGS1 - The Keycard trick redux

MGS2 - Emma, fuck Emma Emmerich

MGSV - Any mission that involves the Parasite Soldiers.

MM2 - Wily Stage 2

MMX - Any stage that involves rail fighting. (moterbikes, the hover craft etc...)

Legend of Zelda - Sixth and seventh dungeons

Link to the Past - Turtle Rock

Link's Awakening - Turtle Rock and Face

Ocarina of Time - Fire Temple and all the crap you have to do to get to the Shadow Temple

Wind Waker - The entire search for the Triforce Shards

Twilight Princess - Water Temple

Skyward Sword - Learning how to use the parachute, and trying to reach the Water Temple.

Vagrant Story - Snowfield Forest

Brave Fencer Musashi - Steamwood, fuck steamwood...

Dragon Quest VII - Dharma Temple

Arc the Lad 2 - The final stretch of the game.

Armored Core 2 - Any mission involving fighting off the native martians.

Kingdom Hearts - Atlantica and Monstro

Kingdom Hearts 2 - Pirates of the Caribbean and doing the second round of each world.

Robotech BattleCry - Escort missions

I'll think of more as time goes by.

I thought Suikoden IV was some sort of abomination that killed that franchise.

Here are some I can think of for me:

FFIX - Fossil Roo and Ipsen's Castle. Neither excited me.

FFX - Mandatory Blitzball. Ugh the dread each time. EACH TIME.

FFVIII - Rescuing Rinoa... IN SPACE~~~

Majora's Mask - Stone Temple Tower. Too complicated for my puny puzzle solving mind.

Trails of Cold Steel - Nord Highlands. Beautiful but just too big and drags on forever.

Star Ocean IV - Cardawhatever Mothership. I HATE that section with a passion. So unbelievably annoying.

Tales of Symphonia - Long ass sewer puzzle nonsense.

Dark Cloud 2 - Heim Rada and Mount Gundor. So ugly and uninteresting.

Dark Cloud - First dungeon not because it's bad but just because it's hard.

FFX-2 - Chapter 4. Everything is just through the CommSphere and I don't.... eh

Fire Emblem: Awakening - Getting Severa. SO HARD.

Bravely Default - The repeat parts.

Xenoblade - FRIGGIN XORD.

Xenosaga - Anything involving mechs.

Xenogears - MECCCCHHHHHSSSSS

Persona 3 Portable - Towards the end of Tartarus.

Threads of Fate - The platforming sections when you go visit Fancy Mel

Kingdom Hearts II - Prologue

Those are the ones I can think of for right now.

I thought Suikoden IV was some sort of abomination that killed that franchise.

I wouln't say it's an abomination, more like a really bad regression. It plays like Suikoden 1 at first glance, most people will tell you S1 wasn't exactly riveting; but it often gets a pass for being the first entry and released in the mid-90s, whereas SIV was their second PS2 release.

I'm sure it did kill some of the fans expectations but the other issue that always hurt Suikoden was Konami's poor planning. SII and SV (often regarded as some of the best entries in the franchise) got very little in the way of PR and both had the misfortune of being released the same month as one of the most hotly anticipated games of the their respective years. FFVIII for Suikoden II, and Kingdom Hearts II for Suikoden V, so yeah, Konami really killed the franchise by being dumb.

Oh, this'll be fun:

FFVII - The flashbacks at Kalm. My God they took forever on a second play-through. I also found the Ancients Temple had a confusing layout and a sort of 'this is the end' feeling, so I also didn't enjoy it either.

FFX - Luca. The story was great, but like Pumpkin I always dreaded the Blitzball and the thousand repeats I had to do. I always make those goers be goners!

FFX-2 - Chapter four was a pain, admittedly. Chapter two was alright, but the gunner's gauntlet is hell if you don't know the waterfall trick to get an easy score. I actually failed first time because I didn't know the cheat. Beclam's laugh still haunts me.

FFXII - The frickin' sandsea. So long. So sandy. So tedious. I can also add the Great Crystal to that list just for being so confusing, and the Pharos for being such a long end-game dungeon.

FFXIII - The middle parts of Palumpolum. It is a really long chapter, so it sort of feels like a slog. It's a relief getting to Hope's house at the end.

FFXIII-2 - Probably the three or so iterations of the same places but with different weather. The Bresha Ruins and Yaschas Massif locations take the biscuit. Yaschas Massif -100 AF- and -110 AF-, seriously?

FFXIII-LR - There's a fairly long ending dungeon which gets tedious, but honestly redoing Aeronite, Ereshkigal and Bhunivelse boss fights. For a final boss, Bhunivelse is damn difficult. You can be plowing through most of the game easy, then come up short against him.

I'll think up some non-FF related ones later.

The blast furnace in Metal Gear Solid 1. You have to press up against a wall and walk across a VERY small piece of floor while avoiding mouse and an obstacle going from left and right (I don't know what it's called) or you fall to your death. It's worst in the PSX version since you can move while crouched and that's what you have to be in to avoid these things.

Whirlwind Maze in FFVII. God I fucking hate it. I can never time that stupid "run through the wind and lightning and energy" part right.

FFX - Butterfly Catcher and Lightning Dodge (you know why)
SoulCalibur III - NIGHT TERROR! (the most annoying boss I've ever encountered, along with Jinpachi)
Yakuza 2 - Marietta (the most tiring mission... and the easiest to fail, IMHO)
Metal Gear Solid 3 - The End (a bit boring/annoying) and The Fear (the non-lethal way)
