So, well probably be visiting between Aug 10-24 (I think that's when Dat Matt told me he can get time off). Naturally, we want to meet all of you lovely Brits, so of you'd like to meet us, let us know so we can schedule you in. We're trying to make an itinerary. I will say, if you're able to travel to meet us, it'll be way easier for us to make time for you. Also, lol, just inviting people to the Shaunas' house. But please, let us know!!!

I know we talked about this earlier, but me and Mr. Carny would love to visit and meet everyone! And I've never been to Scotland, and August is a great time for us (so far, anyway).

Basically, a massive yes.

I live in Bristol, which is very similar to Scotland insofar as you'll have no clue what people are bloody saying.

Tentative yes from me. Will confirm a more solid yes when I can. But god, I would love this. I've still never been to Scotland! D:

It all makes sense with these words: it's technically my Dad's house.

He just stays at his girlfriend's flat most of the time, and we have free run of the house and can essentially do what we want. It's a 4 bedroom house.

That's still the second most sex offender-y Brit ever.

Milton Keynes is truly awful. My parents took me and a brother on a shopping trip there as lads because they'd heard it had some big huge mall and it's not too far from me. My defining memory is of a strange woman forcing us to wear card baseball caps. I don't quite recall how this scenario came to be but when I always pass through MK on my way to London, I let out an involuntary shudder.

As a man who proclaims to hate how grey the UK is though, fair warning: Milton Keynes is the very greyest the UK gets. It's peak grey. You need to build up your grey tolerance before you go anywhere near it.

Night Fury
04-13-2016, 05:38 PM
My Milton Keynes story is also strange, and also a joke at how terrible a place it is.

I used to be a member of a woman's forum when I was younger, anyway, for some reason this kind of 'in-joke' came about that there was an airport at Milton Keynes (there isn't.) Anyway, whenever someone would mention that they were travelling, they would always be departing from Milton Keynes airport.

So yeah, there you go. Another really bizzare tale of Milton Keynes.

Formalhaut
04-13-2016, 05:39 PM
I recommend reading 'Fifty Shades of Grey' to truly understand how grey Milton Keynes is.

As a man who proclaims to hate how grey the UK is though, fair warning: Milton Keynes is the very greyest the UK gets. It's peak grey. You need to build up your grey tolerance before you go anywhere near it.

Maybe the rest of the UK wasn't grey enough. Perhaps my edginess and distaste for the gloom of England was there because I was only getting a small taste of the monotone glory that awaits me in Milton Keynes. Or maybe I'll find myself there one day and the clouds will part on my arrival, bringing about a long and fruitful summer for all the townsfolk.

Either way, the whole discussion is moot because Night Fury won't go within 50 miles of the place. So it'll have to be a pilgrimage I take for myself. A solo journey of discovery and reflection, where Milton Keynes becomes one with me, and I, one with it.

I appreciate that, but for all I know I have to electrocute myself in Milton Keynes to make up for all of England's sins. You don't tell Ghandi not to starve himself for what he believes in and you don't stop a man visiting Milton Keynes if he is called by a force stronger than himself.

I am so so so excited for this!

I had a dream last night about getting the train and EVERYTHING went wrong, I missed connections etc. Anyway. I finally got to the Shauna's and like, they had all these birds just flying in and out and I was really weirded out by it because all these birds kept landing on me and I was like "WTF SHAUNA" and she was all "THEY'RE JUST BIRDS BE COOL."

May I ask if anyone is interested in seeing a pay-for-entry comedy show in Edinburgh during the festival? It's around the time that I should probably book tickets. Would be neat to time it to coincide with Jinx & Denny showing up.

I can safely be counted out of any Edinburgh action.

Shauna
07-06-2016, 05:51 PM
We are going to be discussing the general plans for the 10 days they're here soon, so hopefully we can confirm when we are planning the Edinburgh trip.

Edinburgh action aside:

If those who are thinking of showing up in Glasgow for a spell could let me know roughly when they are planning on arriving! I have some days down for people already - arriving as early as Thursday 11th August and possibly leaving as late as Monday 15th August - but if all of you could let me know what the tentative plans would be. I'm willing to put you up for the length of your stay (as long as it doesn't clash with any not-yet-planned activities), it's just so I know when I should be expecting people and how long I have to deal with the stench of nerds in my house.

Just so I'm aware, when is everyone down for? I'd like to book coach tickets for Edinburgh at some point this week, to keep costs down. I was thinking 10th - 14th/15th, or whenever the first people are leaving.

I'll be bringing gifts, though don't expect anything special. The coach cost alone was making Mr. Carny reticent of even going, though I think I'll still be able to persuade him. Winchester to Edinburgh is a heck of a long trip, but I've managed to find tickets for £54~ for both of us there, and about the same price back. It'll be damn close, and we'll have to preclude ourselves from spending much of anything when we're over there. If anyone could donate any funds for us that would be fantastic, but I'm allergic to asking for assistance so please consider that optional or disregard it altogether.

Money aside, I've been looking forward for this trip since it got first announced, so to hell or high water I'll be there!

07-19-2016, 11:26 PM
Well we're all meeting in Glasgow, not Edinburgh, so you might want to keep that in mind! The weekend of the 13th is considered meetup time, although I know some are coming and going earlier and later

You guys should check out flights, I've got a return for around £80, only takes an hour. You might be able to find something cheaper too.

And if you guys are hard up on cash then I don't mind spotting you a few quid when we get there. Don't want you to attend the meeting with one financial arm tied behind your back!

Formalhaut
07-20-2016, 01:57 AM
Duh, I meant Glasgow. I'll look into all my options. I didn't think of domestic flights, but I'll factor them in as well.

Shauna
07-20-2016, 08:32 AM
Woah coach tickets are that bad? How much is travel into London? You can get a Megabus from London Victoria to Glasgow £18 each way if you really want to keep the price down.

And yeah, we can help cover costs when you're here. Just get to Glasgow and we'll deal with the rest.

Shauna
07-20-2016, 06:11 PM
Also I don't mean to be a dick but if you can at all plan for your travel to be on the 11th instead of the 10th that'd be grand. If you can't do that don't worry about it, we can deal with it. Just easier on our side.

Galuf

The party is the 13th! So if you're only wanting to come along for that, 13th is great.

I was meaning that post as a follow on for Formalhaut's planning - he said that he was thinking the 10th onwards for his travel. Just trying to keep things nice for us. :3

Formalhaut
07-21-2016, 04:13 PM
Actually, the 10th was just a placeholder date. Both me and Mr. Carny are both planning for the 11th - 15th. I mean, we'll be travelling all day on the 11th, but I'd like to spend the 12th nosing around Glasgow before the majority of the people arrive for the party. I've never been to Scotland, so I do want to do a modicum of cheesy touristy stuff while I'm there!

Also, I told Mr. Carny that we're going to Glasgow and he called it scum. Is that true?

Formalhaut
07-21-2016, 04:14 PM
Also, having considered options, coach is still looking cheapest. In fact, it's actually slightly cheaper at £46~. I'll get to booking either today or tomorrow.

As an addendum, we've just moved into our new apartment, but the internet isn't arriving until the 27th, so further planning posts will be sporadic, at best. We do live right next to a lovely pub though, so I'll try to check at least once per day until then.

It's criminal we're not friends on Facebook, Shauna. I'll get to that immediately!

Glasgow is a lovely city. Many would say scummy and although that may be somewhat true (what city ain't at least a bit scummy?)... it's got a lot to love about it too. I think Friday will be a Glasgow day for everyone, so I'll take you round the sights and sounds.

And it is not easy but we can/will provide chauffeur service to anyone travelling. Hope to see you there, good sir!

As you'll see on Friday I'm not the perfect specimen of health right now so it's probably best I only come for the day xD

I agree with what Bubba said even though he was joking. I don't want to be an arse and ruin anybody's drinking fun. So how does everybody feel about spending the day boncing about in town? I think it would be nice to go out for a meal with the whole gang, even if it's just a pub or Maccy bloody D's! I don't know how feasible that is or if anybody wants to do it so I'm just throwing it out there!

I love it when a plan comes together!

Between typing that and driving home I'm still debating staying xD I don't know if I'm trying to do too much in one day and it's better to rest (if it's even possible) at the Shaunington Estates before traveling across the country again. It's all compounded by me being sick (I'm not contagious don't worry!) and I'm off to North Wales for work tomorrow with an overnight stay too so it's a manic week. Life is fun!

I really want to see everyone though and I'm p sure the flight is non refundable. So Plan B is to rearrange the flights to give me as much time as possible to not have leprosy anymore. What would be the latest day with the most number of people to see? Monday is out as I have a doctor's appointment then.
